Why have Mumsnet deleted the "Feminism: Sex and Gender discussions" from the easy "Talk" sidebar?

Just that, really.

Why have Mumsnet deleted the "Feminism: Sex and Gender discussions" from the easy "Talk" sidebar?

@Signalbox gah! We're looking at this now. Something has glitched.

Thank you :)

ReunitedThorns · 08/10/2022 12:30

This board seems more active than the Christmas board though.

It is worth remembering that MNHQ is not one homogenous group (as evidenced by some moderation decisions).

Like a lot of offices, they will almost certainly have a few bright, young things spouting wokery at volume with other gender critical staff quietly trying to not get fired.

Remember the intern and trans rights activist, Emma Healey, who published private user information online a few years ago? Well, she did say at the time that she still had friends at MNHQ who felt the same way she did.

We have no reason to believe that has changed.

Bloody hell ! Was that what happened then? Remember it well!

I remember one rather vocal poster who declared everyone hateful and went and started a thread that I wouldn’t have thought was a feminist issue in the 2020s. But there you go. We were the ones not feministing properly.

I was also told I wasnt allowed on the other board. 😂

Helleofabore · 08/10/2022 16:19

I was also told I wasnt allowed on the other board.

I do remember something like that. Maybe they believed if you associated with them, they’d become unclean.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 08/10/2022 16:21

I was also told I wasnt allowed on the other board

id be fucking living on the other board if someone told me that 😀

Moonatics · 08/10/2022 16:55

This reply has been deleted

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines. Previously banned poster.

Well, yeah?

To what end though? Don't you think that's a bit of a childish response?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 09/10/2022 08:43

Its an open forum canthearmyselfthink random posters can’t tell people they can’t go on one of the boards

and quite obviously living on the other board is a joke

and honestly? I worked as a lunchtime supervisor in an infant school and heard ‘you are not allowed to come to my party’ many times….’you aren’t allowed on this board cos i said so’ is incredibly childish

(with the honourable exception of support threads or threads intended for a specific type of poster)

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 09/10/2022 08:48

Oh and obviously im talking about mumsnet, no idea about any other forums rules, though one assumes that any problems with a poster would be met with a ban as on here

but to be honest no one would be able to tell with all the name changes on here, there are certain posters with a distinctive posting style but by no means everyone

Floisme · 09/10/2022 08:50

I remember hostility on that board too. And some triumphalism, which is quite comical considering how little activity there is on it now.

waterwitch · 09/10/2022 09:37

Cailin66 · 08/10/2022 07:10

This action is very annoying.

Yes it is!

FirstandLastBorn · 09/10/2022 09:50

I delete my browser history and don't log into mumsnet when on my desktop, and I always used the sidebar to get to this board. It's really annoying.

Hi @BrrrGettingColder thanks for posting. As we explained on the Site Stuff thread, the boards are updated periodically to reflect the most popular boards at that time - they'll likely change again in a few months. There's certainly no sinister motive or any attempt to silence discussions.

Hi Becky, how are the topics updated?

Is this a dynamic list which automatically refreshes itself from activity over the past day/week from posting and thread volumes or is this a human being making decisions based on a mix of stats and perceptions? If its human/manual process how often is it being updated?

Yes, how are topics updated, and how did Feminism get deleted, but "Baby Names" remains?

AutumnLeavesAreABugger · 10/10/2022 01:02

Particularly since the Femism: Sex & gender discussions have had quite a lot of traffic over the past week e.g. regarding the Mermaids trustee who has been revealed as a nonce affiliated man, and subsequent discussions.

Toseland · 20/10/2022 21:24

Still not reinstated I see - that is ridiculous and really annoying.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 20/10/2022 23:06

I've just tried to find the board to see if there was any discussion about Dylan Mulvaney meeting with Joe Biden and wearing a Don't Mess With Trans Kids top, and the overt public message that is sending across an entire platform and I can't believe they allow it...

... Only to now find that mumsnet haven't just put us in the naughty corner, they've made it absolutely impossible to find!

I'm horrified that we are so silenced when this is a real topic that deserves discussion.

MargaritaPie · 21/10/2022 15:24

Because some of the content on this subforum may potentially give mumsnet a bad name?

waterwitch · 21/10/2022 15:45

Yep, annoying for me too, and disappointing to think other people won’t be able to find this easily at a time when so many people are really starting to engage.

Helleofabore · 21/10/2022 15:49

Because some of the content on this subforum may potentially give mumsnet a bad name?

Would that be the inane posts requiring suspension of reality and calls to be kind then? Because yeah, the ill conceived 'gotchas' and posts that lack a foundation in proven science would give this subform a 'bad name' if they were not refuted by logic, science and evidence.

You are right.

SelfPortraitWithFoxInSmokingJacket · 21/10/2022 16:44

Still not sorted, is it? Can you update us, please, MNHQ?

If this helps….

Ahhh PIE you never fail to deliver…. 😂 shouldn’t you be over on Kiwi Farms being all outraged there or something?

Igmum · 22/10/2022 08:57

Come on MNHQ please put the link back

Furries · 23/10/2022 02:13

Seems weird that “Christmas” is such a hot topic this year - enough to knock this board off the list. For at least two years, I’d always accessed this board via the Talk Topics list - it’s always been on there, never dropped off (in fact, I’ve never noticed any of the topics changing).

Probably one of the shit-hot web developers (joke) has developed an algorithm that is on par with some of the other glitchy fabulous updates that this site has delighted us with over the last six months.

as an example, new paragraphs STILL don’t start with a capital letter 🤦🏻‍♀️
