Just that, really.

Why have Mumsnet deleted the "Feminism: Sex and Gender discussions" from the easy "Talk" sidebar?

This action is very annoying.

Signalbox · 08/10/2022 08:12

Also they recently unnecessarily moved a thread I’d started from FS&G to FC. They obviously want to plump up the FC side of things (which is dead on it’s feet). It’s weird that they are obviously scanning the boards for anything that can potentially be moved across.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2022 08:13

It's quite possible that some officious soul reported it as being on the "wrong" feminism board.

littlbrowndog · 08/10/2022 08:16

Me too it’s annoying

I think that's much more likely that MNHQ proactively checking and moving things.

I'm inclined to believe the explanation re the links on the Site Stuff thread rather than a sinister motive. Except I'm a bit sceptical that Telly Addicts is really a 'top talk topic', as I said I don't notice it popping up in Active a lot whereas FWR threads do. Maybe the new set was based on an anomalous week or something.

Swimbler · 08/10/2022 09:12

I’ve noticed this too and find it rather annoying that I have to click through to get to it.
I have learnt some much lurking on the fwr board and I think having the link there makes it easier for people to access it- especially if they don’t know it exists to go find it.

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2022 09:31

Stick a post in site Stuff and ask, OP! MNHQ are generally helpful and amenable.

GrabbyGabby · 08/10/2022 09:38

So many fast moving and active threads on here never make it onto the 'active' threads section.

One thread, i think one of the court cases, had more than three times the posts in the previous three hours than the top thread on 'active'. I suspect MN don't like this board ending up on active because that brings in newbies. I simply dont believe telly addicts and baby names has more traffic.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 08/10/2022 09:57

Hi @BrrrGettingColder thanks for posting. As we explained on the Site Stuff thread, the boards are updated periodically to reflect the most popular boards at that time - they'll likely change again in a few months. There's certainly no sinister motive or any attempt to silence discussions.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 08/10/2022 09:58

@GrabbyGabby threads in this section are not excluded from Active discussions or trending topics.

See I don’t think that should be allowed, if you want your thread on feminism sex and gender board it should stay there

i understand the other way round when something is moved from chat to here, as that was the point of the thread split, but if you prefer this board then you should be allowed to start threads here

i thought with all the complaining that the chat board would be packed to the max by feminist discussions that ‘weren’t allowed to exist’ on the FWR board…seems a bit quiet

Signalbox · 08/10/2022 10:31

It was rather annoying. It's not like I hadn't considered where to post it in the first place. And it was getting plenty of replies with nobody complaining that it was "in the wrong place". Why should Mumsnet care if the Sex and Gender board has a thread in solidarity with the women protesting in Iran?

well exactly, plus women protesting in iran has absolutely everything to do with sex and gender and fuckall to do with chat

I am constantly struck by how little activity is on that board. And just how many of those who complained seem to have disappeared. Have they run out of things to discuss there or just realised that there is not enough people who visit there to get the interaction they expected?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 08/10/2022 10:43

helle

a lot had no intention whatsoever of starting a thread

they just enjoyed complaining about other people not starting threads

Helleofabore · 08/10/2022 10:44

It was always a bizarre demand hypocritically based on other’s ideological thinking.

The Iranian situation is exactly the right fit for sex and gender. It wouldn’t be occurring if those females were male.

I remember one rather vocal poster who declared everyone hateful and went and started a thread that I wouldn’t have thought was a feminist issue in the 2020s. But there you go. We were the ones not feministing properly.

Yup

BewaretheIckabog · 08/10/2022 10:51

I really don’t believe Mumsnet is against discussion on this board. They have to tread a difficult line. I have seen a few comments this week which would have been deleted a year ago.

Your iran post is back on this board but I can’t get into it

Yes, this thread prompted me to ask for it to be moved back but now it won't open at all.

@Signalbox gah! We're looking at this now. Something has glitched.
