The first thread, towards the end of which there was a discussion about having a second thread but it wasn't added:

Mermaids being investigated by the charity commission
http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4644323-mermaids-being-investigated-by-the-charity-commissionn_

There's been a new development so maybe a second thread would be useful:

Lottery pauses trans charity cash during investigation

Grim

Might be reading too much into this, but the publicity for the Royal Vauxhall Taverns Mermaids drag fundraiser last night, seemed to go strangely quiet.
It has popped up on my timeline a few weeks back. But nothing on their Facebook recently. Busy promoting other events though.

Maybe coincidence, maybe the penny dropping.....

Interesting how sexualised anything trans seems to be. Where are all the people just trying to go about their business, and use the loo?

And why are they so eager to suggest to children, that 'this' is how trans kids grow up? It's like a life sentence, born trans, grow up into sex work.

The whole diversity in libraries thing would surely be better modelled by a non sexualised adult reading a story, rather than a glittery performer.

There's something fishy about it.

This is in the Scotland section of The Times today, about complaints made to the Charity Commission in 2020 about Mermaids sending binders to young teenage girls:

Charity watchdog ‘ignored alert from mother over trans service’

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0d47310c-4b43-11ed-8b55-aaf85c581598?shareToken=0ede8d5e1f8cf04c30231411a9db93ef

Heads need to roll at the Charity Commission.

They are complicit in the (I don't think this is really too much of a stretch to say) abuse of children.

rogdmum · 14/10/2022 08:07

I’m still not convinced the CC will do anything, although hopefully Miriam Cates raising it in Parliament will put some pressure on. At least there is now enough wider publicity that hopefully schools CAMHS/other orgs might be more wary about unquestioningly sign posting to them

Datun · 14/10/2022 08:34

This forms my next concern - that the NSPCC will arrive with a training package, charge for it, and be presented as the country's saviour.

Well, if the press are as dogged about this as they appear, then rubber fetish wank man working at the NSPCC would be the next story.

All the lurid details just write themselves.

Ffs. Yes, why is so much that they associate with, to do with sex?

Datun · 14/10/2022 08:40

Ffs. Yes, why is so much that they associate with, to do with sex?

Suppose it's baked in to everything they want to talk to children about. The wrong sex, growing children exploring their sexuality, their developing bodies, their identity.

When you actually break down precisely what these adults wish to discuss with children, it's all rooted in sex. Or am I missing something?

nilsmousehammer · 14/10/2022 08:51

The 'sex positive' bit has been marketed as a 'normal, natural' part of the culture of LGBT+infinitum. Despite homosexual people repeatedly saying 'for fucks sake, we spent decades trying to convince people we weren't perverts who were any different in appropriate social values and behaviour around the general public and children and weren't a threat. We just wanted to be able to have same sex relationships without being sacked, beaten up or arrested.'

Now it's becoming very clear what 'sex positive' in fact means, and you can't just support it a bit. If you take one step on that path you are enabling the end, and that is the point . Salami tactics. You wouldn't shame a poor woman needing to do sex work, would you? (Which with naice language adjustments has been neatly repackaged into something much more intentional and sanitised than the reality). Of course you wouldn't. So look at the naice drag queen sparkling at small children and gently teaching them not to have boundaries and let me introduce you to our lovely trustee who is sexually attracted to children and is really sex positive about it, and is gently working on society to let children make decisions about their bodies and to detach protective parents having the ability to get in the way. And who doesn't see a difference between a child and a shoe in terms of the adult wishing to make sexual use of them.

It's all marketing.

If this is let slide yet one more time then it will gently hydra on and the next disasters will be a whole lot worse. Because this kind of behaviour escalates with confidence of getting away with it as any cop could tell you. And eventually it will end in an inquiry and heads rolling and everyone will ask how the fuck responsible adults watched this. It'll follow the same process as every bloody serious case review.

Did you ask the difficult questions?
No, cos they said it was mean to.

Did you think the unthinkable?
No, cos it was mean and bigoted to not believe unconditionally, and they said it was hate to talk about the guy broadcasting his anus all over the internet while he worked for a children's charity.

Did you get sucked into the meeting the needs of needy adults instead of focusing on the children in need of protection?
Oh yes. But gosh those adults are needy and convincing and excell at taking up everyone's bandwidth.

Did you take responsibility for reporting/sharing information and acting on concerns?
No, cos we were scared about them lynching us on social media and saying we were bigots.

The cowardice and naivety of responsible adults frankly sickens me. But considering the government of the country are a bin fire who have basically given up at this point, and the opposition are fully captured, I'm not going to be surprised if no one does anything this time and we see it get a whole lot worse yet.

I believe they cancelled this earlier in the week. Thankfully.

She particularly does not like how the Charity Commission insists on only communicating with her via the press or social media and not direct with her.

It's bloody awful that they ignored those complaints, until the exact same complaints were made in the press. How come that suddenly makes them worthy of investigation, or review or challenge or whatever the bloody hell language they want to use.

It absolutely stinks. And smacks of a cover-up, or backroom deals that now they can't make because the eyes of the media are watching.

Your persistence is awesome.

Apologies if this was linked, I don't remember seeing it.

Dr Em wrote about links between mesmac, the police and mermaids in 2018.

"As others talk about the charity #Mermaids and its alleged troubling disregard for safeguarding policies (fracturing lines of communications with parents, keeping secrets etc.) I want to express what I view as troubling connections. @BigLotteryFund #charitytuesday"

It's a long thread with many screen shots. Also links to a mn thread on PP.

Here’s Buzzfeed with a piece that seems to have been authored by the Trans Lobbyists:

'detach protective parents'

this is a grooming/trafficking gang tactic. they convince the child that their parents don't understand them, that they don't love them enough. they get them to put themselves into care, so that they have easier access

This is the trouble, isn't it?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 14/10/2022 11:04

Th DM have a very good article pointing out just how compromised WY police are by their over involvement with Mermaids. I wonder how much they paid Mermaids for all this "training" (using the word loosely) ?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11314961/West-Yorkshire-Police-received-training-trans-charity-Mermaids-amid-calls-investigate-it.html

Datun · 14/10/2022 11:10

Social media users blasted the police force for attending the training, with one saying: 'For pity's sake - the police are paying for this Barbie and GI Joe twaddle? Why are the police - a publicly paid for body - using this false science nonsense?'

Twaddle.

The Emperor is butt naked and walking across mainstream media.

Finally.

Well there we go, Trans Actual make it clear that trans and boundary pushing sex and prostitution is all intertwined so obviously there should be no children involved, no trans lobby groups and no such thing as a trans charity for children.

pack your pink and blue flags up and take them back to exclusively over 18 environments.

MarmaladeFatkins · 14/10/2022 11:39

WOW @MrsJamin ...The point being that, Mermaids is a CHILDRENS Charity. The poor employee has no place in a children's charity

TheNoWord · 14/10/2022 11:42

Laura Farris MP quote now added to the Telegraph artice; it wasn't in the ealier version:
twitter.com/CforWomenUK/status/1580860363469631488?s=20&t=HTGnRX2p3mC7VjyfF9Z29Q

"Laura Farris, a barrister and Tory MP for Newbury, said: "Given the serious allegations of child safeguarding failures made against Mermaids in recent weeks, it is imperative that any investigation is seen to be impartial and transparent.
"It is concerning to read that West Yorkshire Police have engaged Mermaids services and the public may ask whether they would be able to undertake this investigation fairly.”

They seem to have no awareness at all that their low expectations of lgbtq+ is the real homophobia/transphobia.

If you don't want people to think you are perverts then perhaps don't post pictures of your penis. This is behaviour that everyone including lgbt people that most wouldn't engage in. It is not discriminatory to have standards of acceptable behaviour. Lgbt people are perfectly capable of behaving in an appropriate way. Stop talking as of its discriminatory to have expectations. The low bar is incredibly bigoted.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 14/10/2022 11:51

Mermaids training the police? Do they arrest a lot of “trans children” or something?

Actually given what I’ve heard about kids in care, maybe they do.☹️but still. There must be tens of thousands of trainings that would be more useful and relevant to police work. I’m finding it hard to think of anything less relevant, even if it wasn’t a giant mountain of bollocks.

(do you ever wonder about the person who made the Barbie to GI Joe spectrum graphic? I do! Were they proud of their work, do you think? Did they get their mum to put it on the fridge?)
