The first thread, towards the end of which there was a discussion about having a second thread but it wasn't added:

Mermaids being investigated by the charity commission
http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4644323-mermaids-being-investigated-by-the-charity-commissionn_

There's been a new development so maybe a second thread would be useful:

Lottery pauses trans charity cash during investigation

Wouldn't sending that type of image, unsolicited, potentially get you in trouble?

Like Jess Bradley?

Actually potentially yes.

Its already the case that if you search Mermaids on twitter you are confronted with the image pretty quickly.

Well, obviously, assuming you're not trans....Hmm

Well, in normal world yes. But this is rainbow washed special people world where literally anything goes it would seem.

I used to teach teens and they didn't even know my OH's name. Social media locked down. An adult student once tried to add me as a friend and I had to get her main contact to explain boundaries to her. Professional boundaries used to be a thing, back in the day.

What a shame these charlatans have driven a combine harvester right through the middle of all that work. Bastards.

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 17:55

The other thing is, when it was all coming out about Jacob Breslow a few days ago, did Darren not think to himself 'shit, there are those photos for Haus Magazine where I've got my bumhole and dick out at all angles, I'd better get that deleted'?

Handsoffmyrights · 09/10/2022 17:59

I know. It's almost like they get a thrill out of being caught. 🤔

It was the same at the NSPCC when everybody could see pictures of Rubberwankman on his accounts - there was no rush to clean up.

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 18:02

Yes, it is almost like they want people to see it actually isn't it?

Darren's picture has been deleted in the last couple of hours so clearly someone knows that it's totally unacceptable. But given the shit that Mermaids has been getting the last few days, we have to presume that that someone is not Darren, but someone else who didn't know about the pictures. So Darren, who works with vulnerable kids, didn't see anything wrong with it?

It's so fucked up!

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 18:04

We can await Owen Jones whinging about a 'homophobic and transphobic campaign of hate' about this too. Its exactly what he said about Rubberman, and when Munroe Bergdorf was dropped from the NSPCC after it transpired that Munroe had been inviting kids to message them privately.

I doubt there is any agreement or feeling that it is unacceptable.

Merely a desire to remove ammunition from 'haters' who have silly bourgeois sex-negative views and want old fashioned saggy titted things like safeguarding.

Which is in essence why these organisations are utterly unsalvageable.

VestofAbsurdity · 09/10/2022 18:14

Yes @nilsmousehammer back to all that language to be used that was posted earlier and the heinous crime of not being sex positive.

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 18:24

I imagine JKR wants to bring attention to Mew, as she did with Breslow. But as a children's author it's actually quite difficult for her to do this, given the nature of Mew's hobbies!

There was a great mock up of an OJ Guardian article at the time that one MRA was in the news for sharing images of their penis. The mock article's headline reads 'ZZ's 'persecution for getting her cock out at work ranks her the greatest civil rights heroines.'

The subheading included: 'Transphobes condemn free sexual expression, yet forget that
getting it out for your Tumblr kink page is the truest form of feminism.'

Forgive me if I stick to DM write ups. They sound less traumatic.

Absolutely brilliant. Thank you, Andrew.

Chillisquid · 09/10/2022 21:07

I really like Andrew Doyle, very smart and fair, I heard him talking on Andrew Gold's podcast about his new book.
The podcast is great as well.

Mollyollydolly · 09/10/2022 21:11

I love Andrew Doyle. You can say what you want about GBNews, and yes I think a lot of it is crap but Andrew Doyle and 'Free Speech Nation' is superb. Everyone should watch that monologue from tonight. Hope it goes viral. BBC, ITV, Ch4 and Sky News should hang their heads in shame. It's cowardice, pure and simple.

Yes, his new book is good. And Titania McGrath is a brilliant comedic invention.

Chillisquid · 09/10/2022 21:16

Andrew Gold's podcast is called on the edge, he's interviewed Helen Lewis, Nimko Ali, David Badiel Amanda Knox among many others including ex cult members, kidnap victims and a guy called the coffin confessor'.
Worth an add for anyone who listens to podcasts.

Smilelesstalkmore · 09/10/2022 21:32

Wow, Andrew Doyle has covered a lot there hasn't he! I would love to think he has visited Mumsnet at some point 👋

I also didn't realise he was behind Titania McGrath until the other day - its genius!

Needmoresleep · 09/10/2022 21:44

Interesting that he repeatedly refers the women AND gays.

Gay men realising that sex matters should expedite scrutiny of Stonewall, rainbow washing and ED&I industry.

That is such a good summary for sharing.

Think Andrew will have to retire Titania fairly soon as daily the reality is bizzare beyond parody.

Some additions to the Nurtural thread:

"It was in 2016 that Mermaids began listing Helen Webberley on their 'resources for parents' webpage. Webberley went to the 2016 Mermaids 'residential'."
Here with archive link -
twitter.com/nurtural_uk/status/1579026155276931073?s=46&t=pAKYcKAcbi6OnrYvXwoiww

Graphic with mentions of GIDS vs GenderGP between 2017 and 2020, showing shifts:

Not sure how the account got the data for the graphic but you'd think they'd been a member of the forum (?)

It's very clear what this charity was doing.

What SG couldn't.

(I'm finding it a bit odd that mermaids isn't in any way trending on my twitter. It's like it's been taken off that algorithm)
