Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

If writing something that may offend on the internet is a crime why haven't those individuals who have made vast amounts of well documented thinly veiled threats, disgusting remarks, memes etc aimed at C Farrow been arrested?

Electrix · 04/10/2022 15:35

what with all the hate the sin/love the sinner shit an all?

Personally think that's a massive cop out

SnapeAlways · 04/10/2022 15:38

They could have issued a search warrant, taken devices and invited me in for interview afterwards. No need to search my socks for drugs & deprive me of my liberty.

I cannot go into detail but it seems that essentially this is about a Twitter spat and comments on Antipodean website posted by other people.

One poster had posted screenshots from MN and I was asked “what’s going on in this post”. I had to read it a few times and say, without context it seemed very rude and that these appeared to be posts from MN because the header said Mumsnet.com

The police then pointed at the screenshots and asked who are these people, are they you?!

it seems to be the common position amongst all but hellfire baptists tho!

personally I have no religious beliefs at all but I don’t want to live in a country where religious beliefs are persecuted. Fuck knows our history is littered with the terrible stuff that happened when such illiberal thoughts take hold.

Honesty, I've never much understood how that works. I think if you think such an integral part of my identity is some kind of evil then no, you don't really like me. I wouldn't be friends with anyone who held those beliefs. I was hesitant about dating a religious person because if this sort of thing that comes up regarding sins, I'm just thankful he's not that type. He's quite liberal for a Catholic really.

I really do hope she would extend the kindness she is shown to those that she thinks are deviants. But then, I guess it's somewhat easy to be nice to gay people in life when you believe that they are going to be tortured for eternity when they die.

Either way. My point was not that she deserves this! I just didn't think simply "anti gay marriage" got across what she thinks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2022 15:44

AND dislike the fact that MN is on the warpath for a privileged woman without single other comment about wrongful arrest & power-abusing harassment frequently happening to less well-off women

MN FWR was also "on the warpath" for disabled Jenni Swayne, arrested for feminist stickering and left to find her own way home at 3 am on her mobility scooter after hours in the police station without her meds.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/10/2022 15:47

Helleofabore · 04/10/2022 14:39

I can spot at least one poster who can only do nit picky sophistry, most often on threads about certain women, through whatever name change they have, and is utterly incapable of engaging with any substantive matter. Best ignored.

Yes. Else we might get into recounting past deeds still unanswered ....

Ha! We might indeed.

SnapeAlways · 04/10/2022 15:47

I don’t believe that at all and neither does mainstream Christianity. I am too tired to go theological but I’m really sorry if people have this impression.

Never said they should be outlawed! It is strange that they choose to die on the hill of "being gay is a sin" though but wouldn't think twice about eating shellfish or any other thing that is supposedly wrong in the Bible. Some like to pick and choose

For fucks sake. She is right here.... ask her. Rather than make crap up.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 15:18

Even if he does, it doesn't successfully dehumanise him. This is like sitting in a bad 70s sit com with a toffee nosed Margo Leadbetter sniffing about how people Like That shouldn't be allowed and bring down the tone of the neighbourhood.

What did slavery, naziism, colonialism - you know, all the stuff virtuous people love to witter about how they're so very woke to the evils of - all have in common ?

Every single one of those movements had decided that a characteristic made someone 'not one of them', beneath them, and thereby dehumanised them, to the point that what happened to that person, no matter how evil and horrible and wrong, was not something to mind about . And that good people would not sympathise or care or be caught even showing concern about this.

Ffs how bloody stupid do you have to be to not realise this?

'Right side of history'..... most of the proponents of this political movement wouldn't know about their own history or world history if it bit them on the bum.

Exactly.

The point isn’t whether the beliefs a person holds are good, bad or indifferent. The point is that anyone with half a brain should not agitate to live in a society where groups of people can be demonised and persecuted for having a certain set of characteristics or political or religious beliefs. Because that always ends badly!

It does mean I recently found myself sticking up for Toby Young, which made my head spin because I’ve no time for him at all. But I don’t want to live in a Black Mirror world where your ability to access basic goods and services is contingent upon your beliefs. I’m amazed by the amount of people who do, honestly.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 15:54

I am too tired to go theological but I’m really sorry if people have this impression

It’s not in good faith, don’t worry. I’d ignore it. No one other than the lunatic fringe (TRAs) believes that your right not to be harassed by the police is contingent on you having opinions they agree with.

I’m furious about what happened to you. I hope you get justice and the cops get disciplined.

Sorry, are you talking about Caroline?

Then just say, Caroline, and ask your question. And maybe, just maybe you will get an instant answer.

Magic, isn 't it?

Rather than guessing her opinions....

Get your chap to take it up with the pope, eh?

Well, it's a good thing I'm not a TRA and that I don't believe her right not to be harassed by the police is contingent on her having opinions I agree with, isn't it? Because one, I believe women are AHFs, and two, I have never said I agree with her bring harassed.

Helleofabore · 04/10/2022 15:59

So, you are not going to take the opportunity to ask Caroline about what she actually believes? You are just going to tell us what she believes without any context or nuance.

Good to know you are not prepared to ask the person you are maligning when you have the chance.

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 16:01

Just popping back to say MNHQ have said they'll look into a webchat with a KC (thanks for the correction!) about our rights if we are stopped by police, a police officer turns up our doorstep, etc.
Also our rights concerning vexatious litigants and targeted harassment.
I've asked for a focus on how the law around arrests/cautions/charges, etc, affects women eg childcare, search rights, weaponising MH or vulnerabilities, etc. Also how the law varies across the different parts of the UK. And the rights we have when making complaints to the police and about the police.
I think a webchat would be a good format because it means all the gfs and trolls can't derail it.

And you don’t think picking at her legally protected religious beliefs on a thread created to support her at a shitty time is harassment?

XSnoe · 04/10/2022 16:02

She flipped out about there being gay penguins at London zoo fgs, but yes I'm sure she's lovely really and would obviously say she doesn't hate gays. 🙄

This is to @XSnoe

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 16:02

Is this really the time and place for a theological disquisition? It's irrelevant. Stick to the facts. A woman has been targeted by a TRA who has managed to get the police to take part in the harrassment. Our only questions should be: what can we do to support her and to stop this happening to other women?

In the context of the police allowing themselves to be used as a tool to harass someone's political opponents, I don't give a flying fuck what Caroline Farrow believes.

The issue for me is that the police should not allow themselves to be used for political purposes. They are supposed to police without fear or favour and they are consistently failing to do this in the woke wars. They need to be politically neutral and stop being used as useful idiots by a sinister group of men's rights activiists.
