There have been moments of absolute brilliance on these boards and I thought it would be nice to link or recount to some of our favourite funny or moving ones.

I loved watching the Ocado threads that went on for days and McCain’s response to TRAs on Twitter with ‘potato’.

The lurking thread when so many MNer’s admitted to lurking but not posting...a real insight moment to just how many people read good, critical and informative information on here 🌟

There was another which wasn't even on FWR - an MNHQ thread asking something like 'what do you value about MN' (I forget the exact wording) - the majority of the responses were essentially FWR, or 'came for the parenting, stayed for the feminism'.

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 20:55

Yes! I remember that one too!

Obviously the first mega thread about JKR. I know there had been flutterings of her understanding of gender language and ideology, but seeing her name in the thread list and wanting / not wanting to click on it!

I bought a bag that says "came for the babies, stayed for the feminism". Ocado brought me to these boards four years ago and have lost about £25k income because of that Grin

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 21:10

It’s a fairly recent one and not necessarily unique to FWR, but reading the transcript of Jenni Swayne’s interview with the police. I read it on here and I absolutely howled with laughter. She is so sharp and astute!

The "I am Spartacus" thread. Think it was 2015 or 16.

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 21:22

I AM SPARTICUS!

Around about that time I remember there were a few long running threads, very insightful about some shady characters. I won’t name because I don’t want the thread to come down, but I remember thinking that it couldn’t get much more batshit...

The Alison Bailey threads, with the support wren. I don't know if will ever make a mini series/musicle, but it'd make the backbone of a fascinating book.

The "I am Spartacus" thread. Think it was 2015 or 16.

I think that was what alerted me to this whole mess.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/09/2022 22:11

I am Spartacus was amazing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/09/2022 22:12

And yes, live threads on the unfolding scandals of various unsavoury characters and Twitter storms.

Was it that long ago !

The birth of Man Friday.

I liked the 'everything is JK Rowling's fault' thread.

And the long list of rights Maya Forstater doesn't have.

Loved all the Bunburys.

<studiously not mentioning the thighs>

Jobsagoodun1 · 29/09/2022 23:09

Watching the support that Tinsel and others have brought to women over the years.

R0’s amazing knowledge.

What were the Bunbury’s about?

CervixSampler · 29/09/2022 23:40

I wonder if it was my Ocado thread under a different name? I'd not been on mumsnet very long and the thread hit 1K and I was very pleased with myself 😁 I think I then had a break and came back reinvented. I am not sure there's any supermarket now that isn't captured. Sad times. I have the Ocado delivery driver a piece of my mind and never used them again. I'd like my groceries without political connotations thank you very much.

DialSquare · 30/09/2022 01:05

For me it's the thread where we were all waiting fry an announcement (can't even remember what the announcement was now!) and we got through so many different topics. I remember penguins being discussed at some point. It was such a good thread.

notasglittery · 30/09/2022 01:17

What's FWR?

DifficultBloodyWoman · 30/09/2022 01:39

Came for the parenting, stayed for the feminism!

Was Spartacus really that long ago?

Barrakerr’s post on rohypnol that got deleted, reposted elsewhere, and, as a direct result, was seen by a much wider audience.

The outcry when LangCleg got banned (yes, I am still pissed off about that, MNHQ).

Court case commentators.

I'm still pissed off about that too.

The JY threads with live tweets from goinglikeelsie.

ScrollingLeaves
Bunbury threads were born out of the awareness that this board is obsessively monitored by a somewhat misogynistic / homophobic / anti safeguarding cohort, desperate to silence women from exposing harm that's happening to women and safeguarding scandals involving children.
They provided excellent advice on how to avoid the MRAs, TRAs and others who descend to lecture women about our wrongthink but sadly often end up being deleted due to straying into TAAT territory (commenting that becomes a Thread About Another Thread).

I think the latest one is still lurking here:

Feminism and Women's Rights, which is what this board used to be called.

WalrusSubmarine · 30/09/2022 08:12

An early Allison Bailey thread where we just kept track of her total! It hit 60k in hours just with people chucking £20 at it.

Sadly I think the fundraising page took it down and I have no idea if she actually got my money but it was such a relief to know there were others that were so furious about all this.
