The fallout from this tweet last night was a sight to behold.

Bugger, I was going to join the library queue for this one, and save the £12. There are a lot of people ahead of me. If TRAs are going to be posting info about the book, I'm going to have to buy it!

I reserved TB at my library when that came it as I wasn't working then and couldn't buy it - I was 147th on the list!

I’m gonna have to buy the book aren’t i

i don’t usually buy hardbacks….i read in the bath and nearly drowned reading Troubled Blood 😩

ill buy it though…I’ll just wear armbands

That's possibly one of the best reviews I've read, ever!

I hope some of Rowling's press / publishing team are reading this!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 08/09/2022 14:38

I have an absolutely wonderful image of a tiny feminist reindeer floating in a bath, underneath the weighty Troubled Blood, with inflatable swimbands around every leg.

By the time I'd borrowed and read all the previous books (I had assumed I wouldn't like them and had never read any, at that point), my local library's waiting list had gone down to... 50. The TRAs did so well in cancelling her. Grin

I normally wait for a cheaper deal on Kindle (I’m in Yorkshire. £12.99 for an ebook causes cries of ‘ ‘Ow much?’) but I didn’t want to risk seeing a TRA spoiler on Twitter so I had to buy it.

It’s brilliant. Next time I am going to just give in to the inevitable and preorder/wait in line at a bookshop at midnight. Probably both.

Someone on another thread here warned not to get the kindle edition of The Ink Black Heart because the many pages of online chat are unreadable in that format. Tesco have the hardback in store for £13.50, which is only £1 more than the e-book anyway.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/09/2022 16:45

It’s not unreadable but it took me a while to figure out. On mine (Paperwhite) when you get to what looks like a blank page you touch it towards the left and when a box appears you click the enlarge button.

KohlaParasaurus · 08/09/2022 20:06

I've only just read Troubled Blood, and finished it thinking, "How is this transphobic? Is it because it includes plenty of diversity and several paraphilias but doesn't have a transgender character?" Loved it. Absolute page-turner. I'm going to get 1-4, and by the time I've read them I hope TIBH will be out in paperback.

I wasn't tempted to go looking for whodunnit before the end, and I'm glad I waited and had the added pleasure of getting invested in little red herrings along the way.

Sophoclesthefox · 08/09/2022 20:32

I just finished it this afternoon, and had managed to avoid any spoilers spread around online by cheerless bitter bawbags, thankfully. she is at the absolute top of her game. I cried when I reached the end, I was so sad I had finished it Blush but I have had a shit few months and cry very easily.

The in-game chat sections aren’t great on a kindle, but it is readable.

what I can’t work out is how on earth poor old Philip Glennister is going to voice those parts on the audio book?! Multiple channels and chats that have to happen simultaneously? How?!

obviously, I’m going to have to boost the Rowling bottom line even more and buy it to find out Grin

JKR tweeted about the death of rhe Queen. Can you guess how TRAs responded?

I'm not on Twitter, only see things linked on here as it gives me the rage but HOW are those accounts allowed to stand? With no action taken against them whatsoever? HOW?!

It does make me wonder where most of her Twitter trolls are located, because whilst there is probably a fair overlap between being a trans activist and an anti-monarchist among the political left in the UK, I still feel that most British people have enough respect for the Queen not to turn her death into an excuse to wish the same on JK Rowling.

Speaking of the UK left, some stunning hypocrisy from Owen Jones here, who has absolutely no problem with any of this when the opinion being expressed is that only female people are women:

I guess JKR has better things to do than report all of the individual idiots - and leaving them up at least preserves the evidence of what those trolls are posting?

As my mother would say

’ they’re a nasty piece of work’

VinoDino · 08/09/2022 22:19

Free speech, like on Kiwifarms. I might not like what they say but I'll defend their right to say it.

There's free speech and there's threats on someone's life. There's a difference.

Jesus Christ, imagine waking up in the morning and feeling like that is how you should spend your day, fervently wishing death on a stranger in the name of progress and kindness. I suspect that the horrible burden of just being that twisted and bitter of a person is punishment enough. I also hope they step on a plug at some point, too though.

Helleofabore · 09/09/2022 06:24

So wonderfully loving and tolerant aren’t they? So generous with their solidarity?

It's actually against twitter TOS to make threats like that though.
