It most definitely is a marketing fail here. It is not going to signal to any female that their custom is respected.

But they like the ones with big tits.

Dreikanter · 05/09/2022 13:59

The campaign got a lot of publicity that it would never have had otherwise.

The kind of publicity where potential customers are saying fuck off Barclays?

Transphobes might say that. I'm sure most normal people couldn't care less what trans people spend their money on.

Yes. A huge amount of publicity signalling to women that Barclays support the objectification of woman. Although as NecessaryS says, they certainly respect those with 'big tits'.

There is no claiming this kind in the 'any publicity is good publicity' trope. That is not always true, and this is an example of when it is not.

Helleofabore · 05/09/2022 14:05

I'm sure most normal people couldn't care less what trans people spend their money on.

No. But normal people do care that their bank doesn't join in objectifying females and directly supporting people who do in their advertising.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 05/09/2022 14:07

if it’s 1) the ad company are doing what ad companies do and targeting a particular audience with such aspiration, which will include young people.

Which is why I have complained to the ASA. These ads may target people who already have this aspiration but they also create the aspiration in those who didn't have it before. Especially when they present it as just doing something that will "make me happy".

I think we all know your problem is the woman is trans, Helleofabore. If the woman was cis there wouldn't be a thread about the ad.

Nope.

My problem is the objectifying of female bodies as being signalled by Barclays Bank.

You obviously support this yourself then , hearache. Good to know. You are of course, posting on a feminist chat board. And it is a misogynist view to hold.

KittenKong · 05/09/2022 14:11

C** is made up nonsense.

Your hobby is coming here to complain about trans people.

At least you are not denying that this is objectifying the female body for promotional gain.

That is nice to see at least. A bit of honesty, albeit in a round about way.

Her body, her money, her choice.

Helleofabore · 05/09/2022 14:18

No. But you can try and twist it all you like. By now most people have seen your efforts and are quite aware of them.

And this is a great example of an 'ad-hominem' attack so thanks for adding it to the live demonstration of extreme activist tactics.

So, do you or do you not support the message that Barclays is inadvertently sending here that they support the objectifying of the female body?

Helleofabore · 05/09/2022 14:20

Her body, her money, her choice.

It actually doesn't matter about that person's choice at all.

The message that Barclay's is supporting rather explicitly in this case, is that they support the objectifying of the female body.

If you support that a bank should be advertising that fact, then you support that too. It really is irrelevant whether it is that person's body/choice.

"this is a great example of an 'ad-hominem' attack so thanks for adding it to the live demonstration of extreme activist tactics."

You've come here to complain about a trans person saving money and you're complaining about "ad-hominem' attacks"?

Helleofabore · 05/09/2022 14:22

This is actually really good case study material for marketing undergrads to study. Because it brings in many aspects that should have been considered and where the process has failed.

It really is. A great example of how to get free publicity. Fair play to whoever came up with the idea.

You've come here to complain about a trans person saving money and you're complaining about "ad-hominem' attacks"?

Your dishonest twisting is showing again. Have away at it. I want your posts to stand in this live demonstration. It really does do a huge amount of work.

I’d feel exactly the same way if it was a female being encouraged to spend her savings on “big tits”,

Helleofabore · 05/09/2022 14:26

Ah, you're anti-choice. I knew it.

No. I am anti-banks-telling-females-that-they-support-their-bodies-being-objectified. By society, but particularly by males.

It really is. A great example of how to get free publicity. Fair play to whoever came up with the idea.

And you don't seem to have a good grasp of how negative publicity works.

Dreikanter · 05/09/2022 14:24

Yes. That is exactly the point.

NecessaryScene · 05/09/2022 14:32

Yes. That is exactly the point.

And if it had been a woman, this wouldn't have happened, because the "is this a good idea" or "is this the image we want" circuits in people's brains would have kicked in.

Or the people having those thoughts would have felt confident in expressing them.

Somehow whenever "trans" is involved people become so "open-minded" their brains fall out, and will go along with things that would otherwise be unacceptable. This pattern keeps reoccurring.

(Maybe I'm wrong - maybe there has in fact been a load of "save up for breast implants" ads from high street banks I've missed).

Datun · 05/09/2022 14:40

I can't wait for them to start offering financial advice on how to save up for a penis enlargement, either.

That part of my post feels like deja vu? I am quite sure we have had at least one discussion in the past about how negative publicity works.
