I think - if I had a husband - I’d identify as male for the duration of my toilet visit, rather than go to the ladies and have to potentially deal with an unfamiliar man, and be told it’s a hate crime for me to be uncomfortable with it.

ScrollingLeaves · 21/08/2022 18:28

Poor woman. What a horrible thing to happen to her. The manager should never have spoken to her that way.

I have noticed that some (single sex) Ladies’ have male cleaners. I have never liked it. But sometimes there is a sign to explain this will be the practice.

Could this be a mixture of using a male cleaner plus that male cleaner saying they are a woman?

OhSusannah · 21/08/2022 19:34

It was me. I'm a long time user (15 years+) I can't believe we are at this stage. Being scared of standing up to a bloody man in the toilets saying he is a woman. What do we do next? I'm scared to say I'm scared, but I am scared.

You know who is letting us down? Women. The "be kind" women. Traitors to their children and women.

Well, there's a campsite to avoid.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/08/2022 20:02

Does he just use the women's toilets? Is there a shower block?

OhSusannah · 21/08/2022 21:49

I wasn't staying on the campsite so I have no idea about the shower facilities. I only went there for lunch - which we didn't get.

I have devised a handy test for transwomen who are unsure about which bathroom to use because they don't like the men's. It's called the Izzard Conundrum.
'Would you pee alongside Eddie Izzard?'
'Yes''
'But Eddie has boy mode and a penis so surely you can pee in the men's, alongside other people with a penis?'
'Ok, then, no, I would not pee alongside EI'.'
'What?! Eddie is a transwoman so if you would not pee alongside her you are a bigoted transphobe. I no longer care whether you feel safe. You can pee alongside men whether you like it or not!'

Sorry, a little sarcastic, but Eddie appears to have been an early adopter of the 'shouting at women who question a man in the female loo' brigade!

And I am full of admiration for you for standing up to him. It must have been terrifying, not just to question the man but then to be shouted at by the manager. It's totally wrong and the world really has gone mad.

Cailleach1 · 21/08/2022 22:06

Now responses to google reviews are calling women who want safety and dignity bigots 'cos they won't submit to intimidation if they call out a man. Also, the responses are stating that it is a hate crime. That is false, isn't it? People who acknowledged biological reality (and gave short shrift to anti science, ideological evangelicalism) were tormented by the police with 'non-crime hate incidents', weren't they? Not a crime at all. Did a Judge not say that the police hounding someone for that was unlawful?

It just sounds like a nightmare. Also, would you feel any issues you had would now be taken seriously?

It is certainly a time for gobshites to expose themselves as woman hating, witchfinder generals. Do you think there is a nouveau, pronoun set for the people who do that?

Helleofabore · 21/08/2022 22:38

I am sorry you experienced that OP. I am sure that it must be very worrying to think that the Police have been contacted.

thank you though, for standing up for women and girls.

Rightsraptor · 21/08/2022 22:44

Absolutely, well done OP for standing up to these bullies.

Your complaint about him (and I do so love the manager's saying 'he's a woman') isn't a hate crime because no crime was committed.

On the positive side, the incident took place in Surrey where your Police & Crime Commissioner is the lovely Lisa Townsend who has no time for this shit.

DistaffSide · 21/08/2022 22:46

I was at the Cropredy music festival a few years ago and very male men were quite openly using the women's toilet blocks. (Cleaner, less queues).

It's becoming a thing. Was at a local campsite last year and again totally male presenting man was using the female block while the men's was being cleaned.

I am very sorry this happened, and I think you were brave on everyone’s behalf who cares. I hope the word will spread not to go there.

Yes, women are letting other women down. It is difficult to understand why.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 22/08/2022 00:34

Absolutely insane

FunnyBeaux · 22/08/2022 01:27

What a wankery manager.

Wetblanket78 · 22/08/2022 01:53

Are you sure the he/she was a man though? Some lesbian's dress quite butch and can be mistaken for a man.

But there was a case of a trans woman in a women's prison. Still had working male parts got a woman pregnant.

Phoenixrising2020 · 22/08/2022 02:00

Other women support men in this to give themselves some sort of standing with the chauvinists. It's called inverse sexism and is one of the most selfish types of behaviour to witness. Sadly, it's everywhere.

Mrstwiddle · 22/08/2022 02:14

Just sent the article link to the Daily Mail, the more daylight this gets, the better.

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 22/08/2022 02:22

He's a woman?!

Cailleach1 · 22/08/2022 11:28

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 22/08/2022 02:22

He's a woman?!

And owners/manager are stating it no less than a literal 'crime' to say he isn't. Business is saying op is a bigot and committed a hate crime. Not an alleged crime or even the non-crime, hate incident. Is that defamation as they are posting that repeatedly? Men's wishes trump women, even in places where women may be more vulnerable, or discomfited. Chappies come first.

At least you didn't leave any money with them @OhSusannah . Hope you had a nice lunch elsewhere.

Cailleach1 · 22/08/2022 11:29

At least, I presume it is the owner/manager who is responding to the google reviews. If someone else, I presume the owner/manager would delete what appears to be defamation and apologise to the op.

Mumsnut · 22/08/2022 11:49

We need a website , do t we, where we can send in our ‘reviews’ of local businesses and assign them stars for female-friendly facilities.

Or not

JoodyBlue · 22/08/2022 11:56

@Mumsnut - I think that idea has legs!

334bu · 22/08/2022 12:04

"This is a hate crime and now a police matter. You are blindly being led by a bigot. You clearly do not know the facts and you should hold your head in shame by getting involved in something you know nothing about!"

Copy of management's reply to bad Google reviews.

Dear oh dear....

Blindly led by women wanting rights. Tut tut tut, it's shocking.

And what on earth is the 'shame' bit about? Someone is really feeling the lack of puritanism, witch burning and pitchfork mobs, they're born out of their time.

Has anyone pointed out to this summerchild that inclusion isn't actually TQ+ male specific?
