Yes, obviously, women want to exclude males from female spaces. That's why there are 'female spaces' in the first place.

Hearach15 · 06/09/2022 09:21

The right to get a GRC without having to prove to bureaucrats in a cumbersome process that you're transgender.

Nobody has the right to declare themselves to be a political, social, and biological class they are not.

Some males have a male understanding of what being a woman means to them, as males.

We socially and legally do not allow young people to declare themselves as older for a pension, or for non disabled people to have dispensations meant for disabled people, or for white people to be counted as BAME in the workplace.

So already, actually, they have way more rights by the fact a GRC is even a thing.

It's about excluding trans women from women's spaces. Spaces they have been using for decades.

Just be honest.

Single sex spaces. We are currently entitled to them under the Equality Act which is very specific about the definition of sex in law.

Transwomen, TIMs, whatever you want to call them are male. This violates single sex spaces that many women want and need for personal, cultural, religious, safety, and dignity reasons.

The right to get a GRC without having to prove to bureaucrats in a cumbersome process that you're transgender.

But that cumbersome process is to weed out some of the bad actors, whatever transgender means. Do you think ANY man should be allowed in female spaces? Because self ID allows that.

And I'm not just talking about men who may pose a physical thread to women (and call me a transphobe but please explain why we have single-sex spaces in the first place), but men simply getting off on being in these spaces.

Like so many of us you might be old and ugly enough to deal with a pervy male, but what about a young girl? Did you grow up with a law that allowed anyone access into single-sex spaces?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 06/09/2022 12:08

I think that @Hearach15 has a point here.

youbare right, trans women have been using female single sex spaces for decades. As a favour. We are very good at assessing risk, quickly and as a collective. If the women agreed the TW was not a risk we turned a blind eye. If a single woman was uncomfortable then the TW was ejected. It worked well as a favour based system.

now, though, we are OBLIGED to allow any male into our sex segregated spaces, and we are saying “no”. We don’t want fetishists or predatory men near us, our mothers, our daughters. Some of us have faith based reasons for that, some of us trauma and some of us would just like to not be around male people who tell us what to do and how to behave all the fucking time.

so, you are right, there is a loss fo TW there. But take it up with those who lobbied to remove our singles sec spaces - they took your favour based system away.

I doubt it’ll ever come back . i will always regard a male in my space with suspicion now.

blame Pam Duncan Smith and Alex Coke Hamilton and Nicola Stirgeon and Patrick Harvey and all of them. They took it away from you.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 06/09/2022 12:11

And your right to a GRC without beurocracy? Why is that a right?

have you ever tried to get PIP? Or a Mortgage? Or a divorce? You have to provide evidence of your circumstances for everything. Why on earth would changing sex in law be any different?

that is not a right, that’s a teenage “it’s not fair!”

it is fair. Stop complaining and go to your room.

I think your issue is with the existence of the GRC itself. You should be campaigning for its full repeal rather than more modest changes as to how trans people apply for one.

Ireland made this change 7 years ago, the change barely registered it had such little impact on cis people.

Nope but I believe in no fault divorce. I have also lived in France and the bureaucracy was out of control. Governments across Britain should reform the GRC and use it to slim down the state. That would save a few much needed £££.

When this reform is passed (which it will) you can go to your room and stop complaining 😀

stealtheatingtunnocks · 06/09/2022 15:11

No, @Hearach15 - when this bill passes (which it will) you will see some spectacular grown up behaviour.

we are not going to Iose our single sex spaces. We are not going to have our girls, mothers and women who need single sex spaces stuck with males.

we say no. We mean no. We will get what we need becaise it is needed.

women are organised and collaborate. Have you not noticed what forms out of mumsnet? You can laugh or sneer all you want - but we build here. We have other places too so if this goes we will build elsewhere. We do it all the time.

yes, the bill will go throughZ. Despite which we will be keeping our single sex spaces. That is why TRAs are so cross. They know we know who is female and who doesn’t Belong next to us.

That is a lie, the only reason it didn’t “ register “ as you put it was because of the underhand, dishonest way it was piggybacked on to other legislation.
Ask the women in prisons in Ireland how they feel about a trans identifying man in their spaces.
Ask the women of Ireland if they think that violent, disturbed young man who attacked his social worker and ripped at her eyelids, has threaten to murder his mother & clearly hates women should be in a women’s prison.

RhannionKPSS · 06/09/2022 15:23

And there is no such thing as “ Cis” it’s offensive to many of us to use that term.

RhannionKPSS · 06/09/2022 15:26

Anyway back to invited women to the rally at Holyrood on 15th September @ 11 ish.
Bring your voices , your banners and any males who care about women’s rights along. We might go to the pub afterwards...

WanOvaryKenobi · 06/09/2022 16:08

My point is they already have more rights than anyone else.

No other group of privileged people can choose to wear the costume of an oppressed class and demand recognition for it.

I can disagree with it in concept but understand that in a democratic society compromises need to be made.

Allowing males into women's spaces with no safeguarding at all makes a mockery of single sex spaces and all the women who need them for personal safety, dignity, privacy, religious, and cultural reasons.

Where's the compromise in that? Why are the personal needs of a bloke to have his fantasies validated above prevention of harm to women? In many cases, a white bloke over the needs of ethnic and religious minority women?

A compromise needs to be made and single sex spaces need to have the right to exist.

And the next in the line-up is Catherine Heseltine, who has been fighting the Let Our Sisters Swim campaign, to keep a female only open swimming pond remain female only.
Still a couple more to be announced.
