Woman told by PSCO that her thinking is wrong and she needs to educate herself.

Woman is visited by a PSCO and told to remove an "offensive" sticker, told that her thinking is wrong and that she needs to educate herself. Also that TWAW is a fact.

FFS what the fuck is going on...

I'm absolutely seething! What utter rubbish that pcso is coming out with. Why tie yourself up in knots to pretend that biology doesn't matter? We have reached 1984 when the thought police can get you for wrong thoughts. PLEASE can they just go out and catch real criminals, the ones who are murdering , raping, thieving etc? Sorry, but I feel a bit incoherent having watched that.

SpinCityBlues · 15/08/2022 05:45

I’m another one keen to know which police force.

There are a number of Police and Crime Commissioners (the elected ones with big powers) like Lisa Townsend (Surrey) and Donna Jones (Hants) who are absolutely sick to death of all this unhinged crap within their forces.

I’m happy to write, to chip in, whatever. People like this PCSO damage policing by consent and the social contract. Really upsetting.

aweegc · 15/08/2022 05:54

That audio is so distressing. What sort of human can continue gaslighting and lecturing a woman who is so clearly upset?

This is a volunteer (PCOS aren't paid, are they?). She needs to be let go immediately. Not only is she bringing the local force into disrepute, but policing and the PCOS role in general. And if she does what the audio clearly shows after the training she's already had, then it was an utter waste of time in the first place and no amount of further tax-payer investment in her can be justified.

Bella you did well to keep going there and your daughters are ace!

PronounssheRa · 15/08/2022 06:30

So did that PCSO make the original complaint? And was it that very same PCSO who, when the complaint went nowhere, decided to personally do some re-education?

Im wondering the same thing

VaddaABeetch · 15/08/2022 06:33

The PCSO tells the woman that’s it’s not her job to educate her. Doesn’t stop her lecturing the poor women. It really is ideological rubbish & the PCSO believes she’s the High Priestess.

loislovesstewie · 15/08/2022 06:39

PCSO's are 'plastic plods', they are paid staff but ,as far as I know, they cannot arrest criminals unless they are performing a citizen's arrest. Some, including the ones who patrol where I live, are good, others ,well we know what they are like.

tinplantpot · 15/08/2022 06:43

I hope that PCSO is hauled over the coals for that. What a disgrace

Signalbox · 15/08/2022 06:44

Yes they’ll argue that it’s nothing actually offensive but we all know it’s intended to be so.

The only offensive thing about this scenario is the bullying and brainwashed PCSO attempting to “re-educate” a traumatised woman with a protected belief on her own doorstep. An authoritarian cop peddling an authoritarian ideology; what could possibly go wrong.

@aweegc This is a volunteer (PCOS aren't paid, are they?).

Yes, they are paid. It is PCSO; Police Community Support Officer.

Well done to Bella's daughters! That PCSO seemed satisfied that Bella became more distressed as PCSO continued harassing her. 'No one expects the Spanish Inquisition' is supposed to be a joke.

FOJN · 15/08/2022 06:46

Just linking to this thread in AIBU to illustrate how police deal with actual crimes Vs thought crime.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4611689-acid-attacked-following-a-successful-insurance-claim-against-3rd-party

I don't usually support people being sacked either but the bullying and intimidation here is so egregious I think the PCSO has to go.

I'd be interested in what Bella's MP had to say about it too.

Spade at the ready. I'm sick of these bullying arseholes.

If funding is needed for legal action, let me know; I'm in.

achillestoes · 15/08/2022 07:05

That woman would have bounced back down my front garden so fast!

aweegc · 15/08/2022 07:05

Aah ok thanks for the correction. I thought they were the same as special constables.

In that case then it's even clearer that tax payers shouldn't be funding this behaviour.

But I'm going to hazard a guess that paid member of police force + takes pleasure/satisfaction at woman suffering = keeps job.

She'll probably get a bonus.

achillestoes · 15/08/2022 07:07

‘She put this sticker on her window to get a reaction from people.’

That doesn’t make any reaction automatically acceptable. People are allowed to put up stickers other people disagree with on their own stuff.

‘Same as those who put ‘white lives matter too’ stickers up.’

Again, allowed.

‘Yes they’ll argue that it’s nothing actually offensive but we all know it’s intended to be so.’

I don’t think either of those stickers would be deliberately offensive. You might be offended, but so what?

Abhannmor · 15/08/2022 07:09

She sounds like real Gestapo material. I'm up for a spot of gardening despite the 🔥 heat...

QuebecBagnet · 15/08/2022 07:14

The pcso sounds as thick as mince and a nasty little bully.

EsmaCannonball · 15/08/2022 07:17

When I walk around the area I live in there are a handful of Union Jacks, quite a few Ukrainian flags, a few signs about hot potato local political issues, a fair amount of political posters at election times, a few religious posters, and signs telling cold-callers not to bother (some of them quite rude). This is the equivalent of a PCSO using their uniform to turn up at someone's doorstep to re-educate them about their choice of religion or political party, or why they should be for Russia or for HS2 being built through the local woods.

I still can't believe the police force has degenerated to the point where officers (even low grade ones) are thick enough to do this.

achillestoes · 15/08/2022 07:32

‘I still can't believe the police force has degenerated to the point where officers (even low grade ones) are thick enough to do this.’

This is the point, I think. It’s sinister, but it’s also low rent.

Clymene · 15/08/2022 07:33

This is so sinister

Cuck00soup · 15/08/2022 07:37

QuebecBagnet · 15/08/2022 07:14

The pcso sounds as thick as mince and a nasty little bully.

Indeed. At a tangent, I started a daft thread about scams yesterday and a couple of posters commented that poor English can be deliberate. The scammers have worked out that those less likely to pick up on poor spelling and grammar are easier pickings.

Stonewall know their audience.

Musomama1 · 15/08/2022 07:38

A PCSO is a community support officer, compared to a PC it's like the difference between a HCA and a nurse.

Call me naieve but any decent PC would not behave aggressively like this because they know the law of the sticker being on her property and they know the recourse it could give them to be caught harassing an individual.

Yes they are Stonewalled to the hilt and many have embraced it. But that's no excuse to bully a member of the public, and it sounded like this lady was a vulnerable member of the public.

RoyalCorgi · 15/08/2022 07:42

This is completely nuts. The most important point is that the woman isn't breaking the law, and is perfectly within her rights to have stickers on her own property. It is no business at all of the PCSO.

I'm glad she recorded the conversation because otherwise it would have been hard to believe. The PCSO comes across as a nasty piece of work. And not massively bright.

achillestoes · 15/08/2022 07:47

Questions that could be asked:

’Am I legally obliged to remove this sticker?’

’Am I legally obliged to tell you who put up this sticker, if I have that information?’

’Am I legally obliged to explain my beliefs to you?’

‘Am I legally obliged to continue this conversation?’

If the answer to any of the above questions is ‘Yes’, move to, ‘What is the legal basis of that obligation?’

Then say you’ll get your own solicitor to verify, and please can police submit that request in a letter, because you’re not.

EsmaCannonball · 15/08/2022 07:55

This is really blowing up on Twitter, with politicians and journalists now commenting. I really hope the woman involved is supported through any publicity this generates, because she is vulnerable.
