World Triathlon will still allow transgender women in the female category

World Triathlon has voted to allow "transgender women" to keep competing in the female category. Trans-identified males will have to lower their testosterone levels for two years rather than one, as is the case now. They must also now wait for at least four years after transitioning if they have previously competed as a male in any sporting competition rather than one. Full story in TheGuardian

Not good enough, World Triathlon! Read the room!😡

Nowhere in Human Rights law is it written that participating in sport is a "right".

Exactly, the right to participate in competitive sport or competitive sport in the opposite sex category is not a human right. No one can stop you playing sport with your mates using whatever inclusion criteria you want.

This Twitter comment encapsulates what is wrong with this policy:

and at least it's at 2.5 noml/L, which is towards the lower end of the considerable daylight between male and female T ranges.

much better than the recently used 5 nmol/L [slap in the middle of the daylight between male and female ranges] and vastly better than the stupid old 10 nmol/L [decidedly within the male range, albeit towards the lower end] at which Laurel Hubbard smashed age group lifting world records.

My testosterone is 0.6. I am 57 so I suppose my triathlon career would have finished. I was told I was lucky, a lot of women have less. 2.5 is a joke.

I'm fuming. Only read this this morning - what a disgrace. So unfair to women.

Some interesting news Tweeted by the Mexican Tri Federation yesterday:

Triathlon Mexico is not in favor of this decision which is also not endorsed by the athletes committee nor the coaches committee and should be decided by Congress, so we will propose a resolution at the next WT Congress to revert it.

JacquelineCarlyle · 05/08/2022 09:55

Well done Mexico, assuming they mean not to include males, rather then seeing it as discriminatory for those who are trans!

mrshoho · 05/08/2022 09:56

This ruling is similar to the new rules of USA Cycling. Transwomen can compete but the testorone levels have been reduced to 2.5 and proof they have been at or below for the previous 2 years. Still not ideal and gives transwomen an advantage over most women. Yet the likes of Leia Genis is still moaning about how unfairly they have been treated.

It's ridiculous- women are not men with less testosterone Angry

The physiological advantages men have over women, starting at a young age are scientifically proven. How can this just be ignored. It's so unfair.
