Woman beaten up by rugby player in Italy

Have other people been following the story of the British couple in Italy? The male partner died suddenly in a hotel room and the female partner was taken to hospital with severe injuries. All the early reports said the police thought it was a "sex game gone wrong". That immediately set off alarm bells for me - what kind of sex game could go so badly wrong that a woman was very badly injured?

The woman is now well enough to talk and it turns out that the man violently assaulted her, injuring her very badly, including damaging her eye socket. And then he suddenly died of a heart attack.

Isn't it telling that the police's first thought to a woman having injuries so bad that she is now using a wheelchair is "sex game gone wrong"?

Yes, I was following and knew it was horse shit. How many “sex games gone wrong” end up with the man dead?

poor woman couldn’t even talk for a week to tell them what happened. Poor, poor woman. I hope she has fantastic support.

endofthelinefinally · 03/08/2022 08:07

I immediately thought cocaine. I agree that for the police to assume sex gone wrong is ridiculous, but unsurprising.

Mennex · 03/08/2022 08:08

Yes i just knew this would be the case. He clearly beat her and then was in such a rage (plus drugs?) had a heart attack. Was obvious when you saw the CCTV and her walking separately from him.

EmmaH2022 · 03/08/2022 08:10

Yes, I was suspicious when I heard this

I didn't see CCTV but the sex game crap immediately makes me think something else is wrong

TibetanTerrah · 03/08/2022 08:11

I couldn't stop thinking about how fucking lucky she was that he had a heart attack at that exact moment (apparently caused by the alcohol + cocaine). She would most likely be dead now if not for that.

Yes.

JFC. A RUGBY PLAYER - I can’t begin to imagine how big / strong he was.

What kind of “sex game” ends up with a woman having a damaged eye socket?

Police need to stop using this minimising “line”. It’s assault. Of the worst kind.

Mennex · 03/08/2022 08:20

Is there a side where beating a woman that you're much stronger than and putting her in hospital for a week is acceptable, whatever the provocation?

Letterasaurus · 03/08/2022 08:21

Macbeth

Are you suggesting this woman provoked the attack, or deserved to be beaten?

So that makes beating the crap out of a woman okay?
He clearly had a significant physical advantage and used it. He nearly killed her.
He gets zero sympathy from me.

So when he died of a heart attack he had also sustained the same kind of physical injuries as her?

There's no excuse for a rugby player built like a tank beating up a woman who has no chance.

Cocaine and alcohol can be a dangerous mix, both with aggression and causing that heart attack.

achillestoes · 03/08/2022 08:23

Doesn’t sound like a sex game.

Are you kidding??? These aren’t sides - these are wildly dissimilar physical capabilities. He was a rugby player.

Zero time for apologists for male violence.

There is ALWAYS an apologist for a man hurting a woman. She made him do it, yes?

Never mind he was 6 ft 3 and weighed 17 stone. Get away with your There are two sides bobbins.

endofthelinefinally · 03/08/2022 08:27

Cocaine is the most evil, dangerous drug, from every aspect, from the awful abuse and slavery, money laundering, crime, violence and death associated with it. Just horrific.

ForensicAccountant · 03/08/2022 08:32

There is zero possibility that this physical abuse could have been two sided.

Ah. An apologist for male violence. Next you’ll be telling us a sob story about his sad childhood.

Wow Victim blaming.
I say Good riddance to bad rubbish

A580Hojas · 03/08/2022 08:44

I thought it was extremely questionable speculation on the part of the police (although do we know for certain that this is actually the official police line, or something made up by a salacious journalist?) and I am so very sorry that Ms Platt had to go through such a horrific experience and was so badly injured.

brookstar · 03/08/2022 08:49

macbeths comment has made me so angry.
I'm currently raising money for refuge as party of the walk 62 miles in August challenge. I'm doing it in memory of a close family member who was killed by her male partner.

The amount of comments I've seen criticising Refuge for supporting women and children and people stating 'well men suffer DV too' has really shocked me.
Yes men can suffer toxic relationships and DV but are they being killed at the rate of 2 a week by their female partners?? No.

The fundraising group is full of women who have suffered from DV ... some have such serious physical injuries that walking the 2 miles a day is a real challenge. Yet we're still being told to think of the men.

There are not "two sides" which justify a 17 stone rugby player beating up a woman to the extent she needs three rounds of surgery and may be left with permanent damage.

I'm sure she would be dead now, if he hadn't had a heart attack.
