Ds is 14, and has been asking for 2 years to get GTA. Obviously it is a 16 game so it's a flat no, but I've told him even when he's old enough if he living at home I won't have it played in my house.

Ds is with ex right now, and ex has installed it on ds computer there. He said he knew nothing about it, I explained that aside from ds being too young, I didn't like the element that female non-player characters can be beaten up, raped and killed by the (often male) player and I think it's misogynistic. Ex says it isn't, because male NPC can also be beaten up and killed. My view is that, given the society we live in, where violence against women and girls is rife and normalised, and violent porn is the norm, it is irrelevant that male
NPC are also there to be beaten and killed. Also I don't think there is the sexual element re. Male NPC.

I haven't played it - just read about it. So I guess it's possible I'm being reactionary?

Would welcome any more articulate explanations of what is wrong with it (or telling me why I'm wrong - if I am)

Ex is an abusive arsehole - so it's not at all surprising that he disagrees with me and I may well not be able to change his mind, but I'm more interested in how to discuss it with ds so that he gets some balance from his awful fathers attitude.

I think you're being a bit pearl clutchy tbh OP and as you have made it into such a thing your ds will view it as cool and want to play it more.

GTA is more about completing missions and causing cool carnage. If you don't give AF about COD (arguably more violent) then you've got on a moral high horse for no real reason. I'd respect your view a lot more if you had a zero tolerance to graphic violent misogynistic video games and films.

It's a very misogynistic game but "female NPCs can be raped" is an often-repeated but flat out lie.

I realise from reading the article linked upthread that they aren't raped. The player can have sex with prostitutes and then kill them and rob them.

Not sure how you've decided I don't AF about call of duty @MaxOverTheMoon? You don't respect my view and think I'm pearl clutchy based on something you've made up about me. As it happens ds doesn't have COD or any other graphic violence games at home and has never asked for any. The only thing he's asked for is GTA, and he says (and I believe him) that he only wants to play the racing mode, but I still don't want it because I think although he'd start out only racing, if he had it he'd inevitably be tempted to try the story mode and all that comes with it.

I'm glad I started this thread because I now feel i will be able to articulate my views much better the next time it comes up, and have a more useful informed discussion with ds.
