What a wonderful accolade!

I'm so pleased for her. I know she'll do a phenomenal job - compassionate, kind and wise

  • the right to enforce compelled speech and language (see - factually incorrect pronouns, "uterus havers", "birthing bodies", "chest feeders" etc.
  • the right to invade female spaces regardless of the feelings of the females using them
  • the right not to be "triggered" by others mentioning the reality of biology and sex

I think GJBJ has scarpered to the pronoun thread, they've not got malteasersConfused

Helleofabore · 21/07/2022 22:09

Can I top up our wine glasses then?

Conflictedunicorn · 21/07/2022 22:09

Oh well. It was a nice vigil.. will swap cake for an original picnic please.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/07/2022 22:21

BoredofthisCrap7 · 21/07/2022 22:21

Tim Tams - look a bit like Penguins?

VestofAbsurdity · 21/07/2022 22:21

The list of questions never answered grows and grows, never mind a vigil in a deck chair topping up the tan is never wasted.

Conflictedunicorn · 21/07/2022 22:23

Yeah we’ve been ditched. Oh well. More goodies for us and Janet has found more people to lecture. Maybe questions are the TRA kryptonite…. Just a thought

Helleofabore · 21/07/2022 22:28

I would like Janet to explain the use of language in this part of their statement:

What if they came after your rights next

Who are ‘they’?

Who had made ‘a lot of people who are LGBT are scared for their rights right now.’?

Is Janet saying the Joint Committee on Human Rights is doing this? Or are ‘they’ the individual women and men and the grassroots women’s groups who have worked to have the rights and protections created for females strengthened where they conflict with another groups? The ones who are forcing the discussions and the statements to be made by Policy bodies within the government.

Who are they, Janet?

Because you denied anyone was attempting to ‘shame’ women for supporting those rights….yet you are using hyperbolic language around an amorphous ‘they’?

Would you like to clarify who you mean? And why ‘they’ are ‘coming for’ anyone’s rights.

Oh hello… no… they were the original and Penguins are the inferior ‘look alike’. 😉

Here you go!

Chocolate cake for you.

Helleofabore · 21/07/2022 22:37

I am enjoying this chocolate cake. I am currently feeling rather cold and frosty in the midst of winter and need as much chocolate as I can get.

I read yesterday that the man who assaulted Dave Chapelle onstage said in court he did so because he was 'triggered'. Just by the by. He effectively blamed Chapelle's jokes for his actions.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/07/2022 09:48

Do you think people like @GoodJanetBadJanet ever do any self reflection around why being politely asked simple questions makes them so uncomfortable they leave a thread?

PearlClutch · 22/07/2022 09:50

I don't know. I really would like to know. I have to say, Janet, you have my admiration for doggedly keeping going for so long.

It would be great if you could even try to answer the one question, though, perhaps if you tried to answer it in good faith and women promised to try and understand in good faith we could meet in the middle?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 22/07/2022 09:54

Am delighted to see JC’s appointment.

Thank fuck for that <relaxes slightly>

No, not at all.

As long as people have the "right opinions", lying, deflecting and ignoring are just part of the game they play.

Igmum · 24/07/2022 08:56

Excellent choice. Very very good news.

Let me help you with the "they". Janet Butler nails it neatly:

Judith (sic) Butler. Dang. Posted too soon. But here is the point:

"I wonder if the overthrow of federal abortion rights in the US belongs to that class of world events we can call both shocking and utterly foreseeable. We saw the gains of the right wing, the politicisation of the evangelical church, its new understanding with the Vatican and its enormous influence on elected and appointed officials. We also saw moderate Democrats easing their support for abortion rights – or backgrounding it – out of fear that it would lose them votes. It became ever more common to hear references to “unborn children” in mainstream media and popular culture, so the conservatives won in their efforts to make the repeal seem possible, even necessary. I don’t agree with analysts who lay the blame for the repeal on feminists or trans people or the deceased Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. That way of turning against ourselves is too easy and wrong-headed and it keeps us from doing what is most necessary – analysing and defeating the hard right."

"But this is a time in which both feminism and LGBTQIA+ perspectives are being censored in educational institutions, where rights that were hard-won are being repealed, and where healthcare is being restricted or denied by both social policy and economic costs. The attack on “gender ideology” across the globe focuses on shutting down abortion clinics; calling feminists “murderers”; there are attacks on teaching about gay and lesbian lives in schools; and attacks on trans health for kids. The attack on critical race studies is but one instance of white supremacy rearing its ugly head, accusing historians and critics of dangerous methods and threats to national security. We are gathered as targets by a well-coordinated Right, so perhaps we should decide how we want to gather, and for what aim."

In other words - open your eyes a little wider and see what is at play here. Trans is just a canary issue - other rights are being gone after as well, to narrow define how humans should be. But hey....

DialSquare · 24/07/2022 11:59

Janet Butler nails it neatly:

Is GoodJanetBadJanet actually Judith Butler?!!! That would explain a few things!

I think that's a good summary, and have just had a read of the article.

😕🤣 FFS 😂

there are attacks on teaching about gay and lesbian lives in schools; and attacks on trans health for kids.

The only people attacking gay and lesbian lives in schools are those who deny same sex attraction doesn't exist . As for trans kids health , the only people endangering that is those who demand that they be given experimental drugs whose side effects are now known to have had ful effects on these children.

334bu · 24/07/2022 12:08

Apologies. ... those who deny the existence of same sex attraction.
harmful side effects.
