They’re pulling fewer punches tonight. I’d watch.

Sunak just implied Mordaunt is further left than Corbyn.

Am I the only one thinking Rishi's got a hard neck to say he'll raise tax (on ordinary folks) when his billionaire wife has apparently avoided paying over £20 million in UK tax in the past? How the other half live...

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:16

A bit, but I think we have to separate the question of what is best for the country from his personal finances. If cutting taxes now will be sustainable, fair enough. If not, we shouldn’t do it. How rich he is (while galling) makes no difference to that answer.

Forgot about this

Missed the beginning but will watch

Am I wrong in thinking her business is in India and she pays taxes there?

If so, I am not sure I have a problem with that.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:29

@MangyInseam

I agree. She can’t pay tax twice.

OP posts:
Motorina · 17/07/2022 19:30

Mordaunt has just described her campaign video as 'legendary'. I think that's stretching the word...

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:32

Heated!

Badenoch to Mordaunt: “I was just telling the truth.”

OP posts:
mrshoho · 17/07/2022 19:39

Was it ever established where Mrs Sunak actually pays her taxes? I thought it was via the Kayman Islands or the like.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:41

No, he didn’t say. But I don’t think it’s fair to hold Sunak responsible for his parents-in-law and their family tax affairs.

OP posts:
achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:44

They’re all asking their questions of Rishi. Tugendhat looks irrelevant.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 19:46

Tom not saying much but I missed the beginning

MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 19:52

Tg no to GE across the board

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:53

Mordaunt won’t be in anyone’s cabinet after this. She has very little content.

OP posts:
NotsoTeflonBoris · 17/07/2022 19:54

Rishi reminds me of Blair. Smarmy but with a blue rosette not red.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 19:56

He’s very Blair. He’s smart, though.

Truss did much better tonight.

endofthelinefinally · 17/07/2022 19:57

Lots of emphasis on honesty. I hope Penny is rattled.

MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 19:57

Be interesting to hear reactions to this one

Tom seemed nervous

Rishi was good

Liz I actually thought was a bit better than last time

Penny a bit light on detail

Motorina · 17/07/2022 19:59

I thought Mordaunt did appallingly. Tugenhat did well but, agree with the poster above who says he just seems irrelevant. He'll be the next one out, I think. Truss did better, and I thought Badenoch did well, too. She still comes over as straight. Sunak is slime on a stick - I agree, very Tony!

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 20:01

Mordaunt comes across as vicious in that cry-bully manner we all know so well. She can say what she wants, but anyone asking her a question is ‘targeting her’. Difficult to work with. Sunak, Truss and Badenoch are clearly colleagues with relationships- why isn’t she?

OP posts:
ScribblingPixie · 17/07/2022 20:03

Agree that Truss was better this time. Came across as serious and driven.

mrshoho · 17/07/2022 20:04

Mordaunt was terrible. Full of hot air.

What a bunch. Truss did much better.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 20:14

I think Truss probably moved the dial back from Badenoch a bit tonight. She came across as more heavyweight with her foreign policy experience (if still a bit mad). Mordaunt’s performance will see some of her backers thinking she’s performed some sort of magic trick and they’ve just seen behind the curtain.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 20:16

I forgot Kemi I don’t think she did as well and agree Truss will take back some of that support

Mordaunt has just described her campaign video as 'legendary'. I think that's stretching the word...

Mordant's relationship to reality seems tangential at the best of times
