They’re pulling fewer punches tonight. I’d watch.

Someone tweeted at Mordaunt: ‘Aside from finding you extremely attractive, I admire your honesty and dedication to my country.’

I’d spend tomorrow helping out at a dog food factory with no air conditioning for no pay before I spent it with Penny, but why do women have to put up with this sort of thing? Does he think he’s going to get a date?

Ew, that's gross.

Thanks for the thread, I missed the debate and just watched highlights.

Next one out tomorrow, I think. Bets on Penny or Tom?

LeniGray · 17/07/2022 21:00

Missed it, anyone know where I can find it, Google’s not helping. I agree with the PP who said Rishi reminded them of Blair - I remember thinking that in the first debate. Something in his manner, and the way he speaks is very Blair-like!

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 21:09

It’s his pauses to smile inanely into the camera.

WinterTrees · 17/07/2022 21:14

I think it's something about the way he speaks too - a slightly strangulated tone iyswim? I imagine Jon Culshaw won't have to make much adjustment to his Blair impersonation to fit Sunak, put it that way.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 21:16

Sunak’s right about inflation, though.

OP posts:
PearlClutch · 17/07/2022 21:16

That manic smile is very Blairy

MarshaBradyo · 17/07/2022 21:18

I don’t mind him, I found Blair a bit smarmy but voted for him
so maybe it’s paving the way for Sunak ;

I agree on the next generation thing though and inflation and debt

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 17/07/2022 21:48

They are all awful Badenoch can't answer without checking her notes. Mordant is a better dressed, female Johnson. Sunak is smarmy and full of himself. Tugenhat seems out of his depth. And Truss isn't even human, she's one of those Japanese humanoid robots we keep seeing in the news.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 21:54

Truss is very human. Confronted with a million cameras and a hostile panel of rivals, she comes across as awkward.

Blinkin' heck! Penny Mordaunt seems to be having a Kanye calling himself the 'greatest living rock star' at Glastonbury moment. Her campaign video is now 'legendary'; according to herself.

Does she think that it is 'legendary' in a good way, I wonder?

MangyInseam · 17/07/2022 22:56

You should never call something you do yourself legendary. Even if it's true it's cringy. I don't know what she could have been thinking.

GCHeretic · 17/07/2022 22:59

MadMadMadamMim · 17/07/2022 19:14

Am I the only one thinking Rishi's got a hard neck to say he'll raise tax (on ordinary folks) when his billionaire wife has apparently avoided paying over £20 million in UK tax in the past? How the other half live...

What do you mean? Why should the right tax rate have anything to do with his wife not being domiciled in the U.K.?

He is. I don't think being a bit like Blair is necessarily a bad thing.

Penny Mordaunt may however go down well with viewers in Scotland. If I had a vote in this I would find it difficult to choose between Sunak and Mordaunt because of the issue of Scottish separatism. She's been far firmer against a further referendum than him. Sunak had been swithering.

Mordaunt's evisceration of Ian Blackford was a joy to behold.

Motorina · 18/07/2022 07:17

Mostly I’m thinking, “Dear God Almighty, couldn’t they have come up
with anyone better than this?”

achillestoes · 18/07/2022 08:35

@Motorina

There was Shapps.

Just occurred to me : If Truss wins she will surely need a new Chancellor? Possibly Badenoch.
Then if it's Sunak : a new Foreign Secretary.

Not sure about Mordaunt. She might hold a reality TV competition to select Ministers I suppose.

Love it!
PM is useless, and Tom, sadly, does seem oout of his depth. Winning would ruin him.

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2022 16:10

Next debate not going ahead which is probably right way to go

I hope PM doesn’t get through she seems so vague

Tom seemed to malfunction a bit losing the verve

Rishi apparently came out best

Truss wasn’t as bad as I feared
