FFS!!!

What did it look like?

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 17/07/2022 14:22

To be fair I am prepared to accept that the ginger biscuit is without a sex😂

GCAcademic · 17/07/2022 14:26

Ah, I did recently spot gingerbread men and women at an outlet on my university campus and wondered how much longer such a cis-normative atrocity would be allowed to continue for.

joofy · 17/07/2022 14:28

What with this and their unisex cafe toilets Sainsburys are going on the list 😡

Doyoumind · 17/07/2022 14:30

I imagine they are selling what were once called gingerbread men rather than gingerbread women though? The male default.

MsMarvellous · 17/07/2022 14:35

Think they've gingerbread people for ages!

SignOnTheWindow · 17/07/2022 14:36

Nowt wrong with that - better than the default male, surely?

Floisme · 17/07/2022 14:42

Nah, not my hill. Confectionary does not, as a rule, have a sex, (although if we all end up eating bugs, I guess that might change).

yes exactly @Doyoumind they're only a gingerbread girl if you stick a bow (or apron?) on them Hmm

(soo much sexist bullshit in the world)

Except they usually are the default male

mrshoho · 17/07/2022 14:51

"Run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread person". Not as catchy as the original!

FunnyTalks · 17/07/2022 15:02

Eh? This is a good thing. Rather than the default "man".

I call the light at the crossing the "green person" and regularly switch up the sexes in my kids reading books too.

The difference between being feminist and being non binary is largely to do with how you perceive yourself in relation to others. Non binary identities claim to reject stereotypes, but rely on the assumption everyone else embraces them. They force others to hold the identity "cis" and thereby create a false hierarchy whereby rights are fought only for those who utter the special words.

Feminists recognise that gender stereotypes are part of the way women are oppressed in a patriarchy. They acknowledge that many women don't have a choice over this, whilst fighting to free all people (not just special people) from having to live by these stereotypes.

One tiny way to do this is to stop automatically defaulting to male, and stop only signifying female with pink frills etc.

You've clearly never read the Viz comic strip Fru T Bunn....

Thebeastofsleep · 17/07/2022 15:12

This has been going on for a while and is a good thing. Much better than the default male.

CuriousCatfish · 17/07/2022 15:16

I'm not sure what the problem is here?

GoodJanetBadJanet · 17/07/2022 15:21

This isn't a new thing, it's been gingerbread person for years 😕

BruceAndNosh · 17/07/2022 15:24

Is it significant that the gingerbread person is invisible?

dontholdback · 17/07/2022 15:25

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 17/07/2022 15:47

I don't care. Gingerbreadman is what they are. Chairman, spokesman, all just human.

Hupersons....

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 17/07/2022 15:51

Gingerbreadmen are a hate crime towards trans people, or possibly literal violence.

user1471504747 · 17/07/2022 15:56

They’ve been changing in various places for years now.

I don’t really see why it would matter? I’m glad we’re moving away from a world where man is the default for everything.

Musomama1 · 17/07/2022 16:29

No problem with this. We've been saying things like 'chairperson' and the like for ages to take the gender bias out. I don't think it makes the gingerbread man non binary, it could well be a gingerbread woman.

But if the gingerbread man was identifying as gender fluid I would say he was taking the biscuit.

Exactly this.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 17/07/2022 17:31

Mmmm biscuits

<rummages in kitchen cupboards >

Deliriumoftheendless · 17/07/2022 17:36

I don’t have a problem here either, I agree it’s moving away from male as default and I’m good with that.

I also say cross on the green light as well, but daughter still calls it a man 🤷‍♀️
