TRA showing themself to be pretty humourless... enjoyed both the article and the comments so far though Grin

Carnival sorry for ‘transphobic’ Olympic float with men in drag

I was fully prepared to be cross at them for apologising, but saying sorry for how someone felt isn't really an apology.

“The committee is very sorry for how this has made people feel and very much hopes that all concerned are assured of our best intentions.”

If Donna doesn't like the float, maybe Donna can join forces with Save Women's Sports and campaign to stop men participating in thw women's category.

WarriorN · 15/07/2022 06:59

Lol, this "you must grovel" shit always back fires by being amplified!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/07/2022 07:12

i do enjoy it when TRA self absorbed humourlessness gets national coverage 😆

DodoPatrol · 15/07/2022 07:15

I’m not sure that ‘sorry you felt that way, let’s re-publish the photo and explain the point’ is the outcome that Landy wanted.

MenopauseSucks · 15/07/2022 07:16

I'd loved to have seen that!

DistrictCommissioner · 15/07/2022 07:18

There was a thread on here about it. I live in the area, I wonder if sports is the breakthrough issue for this sort of fairly unpolitical rural territory.

Clymene · 15/07/2022 07:20

Landry doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humour for a 'comedian'. But then I'm not sure their show about how they were a married father of two before they came out looks that funny either.

BaronessWrongCrowdRex · 15/07/2022 07:21

Sounds a bit ‘Sorry (not really sorry though) ‘😂

RudsyFarmer · 15/07/2022 07:24

Humourless 🤭

This stuff always reminds me of Game of Thrones where Cersei was whipped down the street to atone her sins. Repent! Repent!

McDuffy · 15/07/2022 07:27

Times readers are pretty funny in the comments. Must be some MN overlap Wink

So when a small child sees a semi erect penis the advice is to stop looking/stop being a pervert by staring at someone's genitals.

But if tras see a float they don't like they have to throw a tantrum until they get am apology.

TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE MATE. STOP LOOKING

What the Devon men did was clearly too close to home....

DistaffSide · 15/07/2022 07:59

Typical carnival humour. Donna's now made it a national story and I expect most people are laughing.

KittenKong · 15/07/2022 08:03

How dare anyone question these ladies.

FilePhoto · 15/07/2022 08:10

How do I find the comments? The article was great!

How do they know they were just blokes dressed up. This "comedian" could be completely misgendering them and missing the political point they're trying to make

KittenKong · 15/07/2022 08:32

Or a huffy and humourless person with no sense of humour. I haven’t seen their ‘comical stylings’ but assume it’s not amusing.

picklemewalnuts · 15/07/2022 08:35

I wonder why the times is writing about it again, a month after it all happened and the statement was issued?

Also, while they only apologised for 'how it made people feel', they did say they would not have approved it had it been entered properly.

That said, I wonder how the float organisers knew they needed to tag on unofficially, rather than entering properly!

KittenKong · 15/07/2022 08:37

I’m remembering the float of men in dresses (or was it dressed as nurses?) who raised money for a hospital but it was refused as it was sexist (must’ve been dressed as nurses). All the howls of ‘it’s just a joke!’

Rosessmelllike · 15/07/2022 08:45

Do feel a bit sorry for the council as the float wasn't authorised and apparently just snuck on the back of it after it started, so they never actually gave it the green light but they have to apologise anyway. I do think the float was funny but I think heat directed at them is misinformed.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/07/2022 08:49

Idly wonders when the apologies will be forthcoming from all the councils offending women by wedging drag queens into every possible venue - especially children's venues.... anyone???...... no?? .....

SuperCamp · 15/07/2022 08:55

“The committee is very sorry for how this has made people feel and very much hopes that all concerned are assured of our best intentions.”

Don’t worry, committee, you didn’t get around to asking how I and other women feel, but I feel FINE about this entry.

Hopefully Landry will be all over this, persuading Devon council to cancel any proposed drag queen story time, etc, given how upsetting and concerning it is to see 'a bunch of blokes in drag'.

GCHeretic · 15/07/2022 08:57

It looks as though it was actually very trans-inclusive. Cross-dressing is included under the trans umbrella now, and so these are trans women who, as the activists tell us, are women.
