TRA showing themself to be pretty humourless... enjoyed both the article and the comments so far though Grin

Carnival sorry for ‘transphobic’ Olympic float with men in drag

Maybe the ‘bunch of blokes’ are offended by drag queens? Since they won’t listen to offended women, maybe if the ‘blokes’ complained we’d get somewhere?

JacquelinePot · 15/07/2022 09:06

Landry doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humour for a 'comedian'. But then I'm not sure their show about how they were a married father of two before they came out looks that funny either.

Tell me which of Blanchard's typologies applies, without telling me which of Blanchard's typologies applies

NewNamePrivacyneeded · 15/07/2022 09:25

These men dressed up in drag might be trans women - who's to judge? So a drag person is able to automatically tell if another man in a dress is a genuine trans woman or not. How odd. I didn't realise it was that obvious. The points made about the 2024 Olympics are valid surely. It is only one way and transwomen are able to decide what is ok and which people are genuine trans women and which are taking the piss (literally)

NewNamePrivacyneeded · 15/07/2022 09:28

"Whatwouldscullydo · Today 07:28
So when a small child sees a semi erect penis the advice is to stop looking/stop being a pervert by staring at someone's genitals.
But if tras see a float they don't like they have to throw a tantrum until they get am apology.
TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE MATE. STOP LOOKING"

Solid advice there.

Belovedfool · 15/07/2022 09:38

So these are men in drag, according to the complainant? Doesn't that make them trans, according to stonewall?

How transphobic of the complainant.

Shockingly so.

I have been told if a man wears a dress then assume he is a trans woman and don't ask questions. Questioning is offensive to the trans woman after all you don't go up to a woman and ask if she is a woman or go to a man and ask if he is a man so I follow that premise. I just take it that any man in a dress is now a trans woman because I am doing everything I can to ensure I don't accidentally think it might be just a man taking the piss out of women and offend a trans woman who is a genuine woman.

hedgehogger1 · 15/07/2022 08:17

How do they know they were just blokes dressed up. This "comedian" could be completely misgendering them and missing the political point they're trying to make

Precisely! I mean how does she know how they identify. Surely that was a bunch of women running - what is a woman after all?

sleepyhoglet · 15/07/2022 13:40

Having read the DM version and seen a picture of the complainant, I have to say the float is more woman than he/she is!

Hoppinggreen · 15/07/2022 13:41

The problem is those photos don’t clearly show their pronouns

Another question worth raising is why Donna is so fearful of being attacked. Is Donna conceding that, unlike the myth peddled, tw are actually very easily distinguishable from women? It certainly implies that Donna accepts this, because otherwise.....how would anyone know Donna is a tw?

It's such a mystery. We keep being told we're sharing facilities already with the Donnas of this world, and we have no idea they're there, they blend in so well.

No ya don't.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11017065/Men-dressed-female-athletes-town-carnival-hit-transphobia-claim.html

As if this couldn't get better. The marvellous Maurice COCKwill, leader of the lady runners, ain't backing down. He was an athletics coach and was making a serious point that's now national.

CupidStunt22 · 15/07/2022 14:03

She added: 'I suppose the fact that they accepted it so readily shows how little awareness there is of trans issues in our local community. At the time I was shocked, angry, sad - and afraid. I started to wonder, what if people noticed I was trans and started mocking me, or worse?

Does it not occur to Donna that the reason they were there, and accepted is because of how MUCH awareness there is in the community, not how little? As for, "what if people noticed I'm trans.." Donna, love, everyone can tell at a single glance. Nobody thinks you're a woman..

SingingSands · 15/07/2022 14:03

Donna says that "she could have been attacked".

But... Donna wasn't attacked, not even acknowledged probably. It annoys me when people conflate "could have" with what actually happened i.e. nothing.

Hoppinggreen · 15/07/2022 14:04

Go Maurice you magnificently named person!!

mcduffy · 15/07/2022 14:07

Maurice is a true ally!

”The statement added: “We were able to establish that the float did not submit a carnival entry form and did not enter for judging. “If they had done so, the judges and stewards would have refused their entry/float. It appears that the float joined the procession out of sight of anyone on the committee as it moved off and, we assume, with the signage covered over, with this being unveiled further along the route.”

The marvellous Mr Cockwill obviously knows what he is doing!

Stealth terving par excellence!

So glad this is getting another airing. Couldn’t get more Streisand if you tried!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/07/2022 15:17

This is crying out to be made into a film 😆

The Chariots of Fire theme could do with another airing!

senua · 15/07/2022 16:08

“The committee is very sorry for how this has made people feel and very much hopes that all concerned are assured of our best intentions.”
People? Do they mean "one person"?

Shouldn't we all write in to the committee and tell them how we feel and that we support the point that the float was making.

FilePhoto · 15/07/2022 08:10

How do I find the comments? The article was great!

They are at the bottom of the article, but I think for subscribers only. Until quite recently the Times didn't allow any comments on trans articles. And now they are often better than the article itself. The comments today are people having a laugh, hilariously in many cases, also some very serious pertinent replies and best of all, most people think this is nonsense which they've had enough of.

NewNamePrivacyneeded · 15/07/2022 16:19

It's pretty obvious that trans Donna is a man in a dress the same as the ones in the carnival float so why is it ok for her and the carnival men in dresses have to apologise. She really doesn't think that we look at her as see a woman does she!

I’m not sure that ‘sorry you felt that way, let’s re-publish the photo and explain the point’ is the outcome that Landy wanted.

Grin

I'm so angry about this disgusting float being seen on a little street in Devon, that I'm going to complain and get the story into a leading national newspaper, complete with photo and lots of people discussing it. Er, wait a minute ....

I'd buy the DVD.
