My mum was in m and s today trying to buy a happy birthday granddaughter card.

Apparently their cards are now all gender neutral and non-binary. So no references in any of the cards at all.

Now I wasn't there but I think my mum has the gist of what is going on.

This is ducking madness.

Oh dear god. I am so sick of this shit. Slightly consoled (very slightly) that surely we must be approaching peak madness and sanity will return soon???

Last year I was rolling my eyes at M&S cards, as it was basically, on one side, a sea of male cards - daddy, husband, son - in blue, green, brown, sports, etc. Then the same with mother, wife, daughter - all sugary pinks and purples, flowers, pampering etc. Why can't they just get it right?

Not in my M&S, they still have as many cards to specific family members as ever.

Our local M&S still have gender specific cards, loads of them. My friend worked at M&S some years ago and apparently they are driven by the perceived demographic of the shoppers, I live in a fairly un-woke area so maybe that's why we've the full range of cards. 😁

I've not been in-store but their website very much still says otherwise. It's all pink and blue shite with 'mum' and 'son' plastered on it respectively.

There are plenty of places to buy cards now and you can even get your own printed

Because when I want to tell my sister how wonderful she's been I don't want to give her a 'Great Sibling' card. And I don't want to tell my mum she's a fantastic parent, I want to tell her she's the best mum.

M and S have not ditched gendered cards.

It is never going to happen for the reasons stated here.
