My mum was in m and s today trying to buy a happy birthday granddaughter card.

Apparently their cards are now all gender neutral and non-binary. So no references in any of the cards at all.

Now I wasn't there but I think my mum has the gist of what is going on.

This is ducking madness.

Oh dear god. I am so sick of this shit. Slightly consoled (very slightly) that surely we must be approaching peak madness and sanity will return soon???

Last year I was rolling my eyes at M&S cards, as it was basically, on one side, a sea of male cards - daddy, husband, son - in blue, green, brown, sports, etc. Then the same with mother, wife, daughter - all sugary pinks and purples, flowers, pampering etc. Why can't they just get it right?

AmbushedByCake1 · 14/07/2022 14:15

Not in my M&S, they still have as many cards to specific family members as ever.

Shortpoet · 14/07/2022 14:19

Could be worse.

Happy birthday older sibling menstruater

Happy vagina-owner parents day

Congratulations on the birth of your little cervix-haver

Lovelycheese · 14/07/2022 14:22

Well that's bollocks though isn't op. 🙄

uggmum · 14/07/2022 14:23

I was in M&S yesterday and they had a full range of cards to cover every family member.

So this is totally untrue.

SolasAnla · 14/07/2022 14:24

Happy capacity to give birth day.

tropicalsound · 14/07/2022 14:25

Why do greeting cards need to be gendered?

Lineala · 14/07/2022 14:26

Rubbish

ZaraSizeMedium · 14/07/2022 14:27

Not the case in my local M&S.

I don’t think any company who sells greeting cards would be so stupid as to stock only non specific, gender neutral cards.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/07/2022 14:28

i simply don’t believe this is true

Yodaisawally · 14/07/2022 14:30

I'm going to check it out later in case my mum is actually batshit possibility

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 14/07/2022 14:31

Our local M&S still have gender specific cards, loads of them. My friend worked at M&S some years ago and apparently they are driven by the perceived demographic of the shoppers, I live in a fairly un-woke area so maybe that's why we've the full range of cards. 😁

BaronessBomburst · 14/07/2022 14:31

I've not been in-store but their website very much still says otherwise. It's all pink and blue shite with 'mum' and 'son' plastered on it respectively.

Motnight · 14/07/2022 14:33

This is not true.

There's so much real shit happening for us to get angry about, please let's not be wasting energy on stuff that isn't happening.

BaronessBomburst · 14/07/2022 14:34

Does your mum live in Brighton OP? Grin

PurpleDaisies · 14/07/2022 14:58

This is nonsense. I bought cards in there the other day. This is categorically fake news.

zanahoria · 14/07/2022 15:12

There are plenty of places to buy cards now and you can even get your own printed

ControversialOpening · 14/07/2022 15:19

Why do greeting cards need to be gendered?

Because when I want to tell my sister how wonderful she's been I don't want to give her a 'Great Sibling' card. And I don't want to tell my mum she's a fantastic parent, I want to tell her she's the best mum.

etc, etc

M and S have not ditched gendered cards.

It is never going to happen for the reasons stated here.

Some posters really ought to not take everything on the internet at face value.

Happy Parental Unit One Day!

Favouritefruits · 14/07/2022 15:46

I bought a nephew card in their last week and my mum bought a grandson one, are you sure they just didn’t have what you were looking for?

Yodaisawally · 14/07/2022 15:47

@Favouritefruits is wasnt me it was my mum. I have tweeted them will see what they come back with...

Maybe your Mum got confused by M & S's mixed sex lingerie changing rooms rather than the cards? Grin
