In your experience? If we don't tell anyone our views, how do you know? Confused

Also FYI Macy Gray isn't her real name

Gogster · 12/07/2022 06:26

JasmineVioletRose · 12/07/2022 06:17

Bette middler too 🙄

Urgh. Her 'apology' tweet tries to rewrite history.

Her 'women of the world' tweet is clear as day.

Macy Gray has shown why "GC women " are afraid to talk. Bad news for TRAs is We Are EVERYWHERE. And we vote too. Now women are waking up to the grift, they will hold to account any politician who is seduced by it. Because if you can lie about that, you can lie about anything. If you can be fooled about something so obvious as sex vs gender, you can be fooled by anything. And we won't vote for you.

Gogster · 12/07/2022 06:10

*Are you out and proud in your GC views in your work place, family, friends, all social media? If the answer is no, do you consider yourself to be a coward?

I am, yes. So no, I don't.

I am completely out, so to speak, and very vocal.

I am on twitter under my own name and photo.

I work in a skool and happily say I think it's all nonsense in the staff room, because most people agree with me.

Not in the classroom - it's not my job to preach to the kids but to listen and you know what? Most kids don't believe it either, although they are respectful enough to their friends that do.

But macy's actions are very similar to a pal of mine. She was very supportive of my views and we used to talk about them a lot, then she suddenly said she'd changed her mind and didn't want to talk about it any more and lo! One of her daughters friends was trans, and her daughter (16yo) had spoken to her.....

..... But, a year later, she is back tentatively whispering that it's all a phase the kids are going through and it will all be over soon. So.....

Floisme · 12/07/2022 07:23

And what's the site being anonymous got to do with it?

Seriously?
I don't know how much abuse Macy Gray has had to put up with these last few days, or what kind of threats, but I can imagine.

JK Rowling dipped her toe in the water several times and hesitated before going for it.

Martina Navratilova, an asylum seeker who went on to become a multiple grand slam champion presumably knew a thing or two about resilience, and yet the first time she spoke out, she backtracked and promised to go away and educate herself. (Which of course she did.)

You meanwhile called Macy Gray a coward from behind a forum where no-one knows your name, what you look like, where you live or who your employers are. You say you're public with your views and yet you're anonymous here, although you could post under your real name if you so wished, not that I'm recommending it.

If you still can't see the irony then there's probably nothing further to be said.

Skinterior · 12/07/2022 07:23

She's in the US - it's way behind where we are in the UK. I'm in a company with a big US presence and it's all still pronouns and Stonewall.

Macy needs support whilst they're still on softly softly over there. She knows what she really thinks, she's just not able to walk around with a sledge hammer like we can here.

The carefully positioned legal battles that have happened here have made such inroads, is there any any chance of the same happening there?

Who is the US Kathleen Stock, Maya Forstater? Keira Bell? Alison Bailey?

JoodyBlue · 12/07/2022 08:44

That recant video is horrific. Her body language is at odds with the words. She is being forced to say what she says, by the culture, if not by individuals. The fact that she had the guts to first speak out is what I see and applaud. Regardless of any view, supportive for any cohort of people is not genuine support if it is not freely given.

DameHelena · 12/07/2022 08:52

It is absolutely a hostage video. I do wonder if the gloves are a coded reference to re-education, as mentioned by a pp.

WearyLady · 12/07/2022 09:06

I find all the re-education references quite chilling and very reminiscent of soviet Russia. The term 'educating myself' is used repeatedly, not just in Macy's case. It just smacks of totalitarianism. I'll

BodgerDodger · 12/07/2022 09:12

so she has been bullied and threatened… you call her a coward… is that how one deals with bullying? No it’s not.

its a witch hunt, pure and simple!

Somanysocks · 12/07/2022 09:25

I do feel for people in the public eye who rely on public support for their income.

I, for one, can't lose my job for saying what I think about this (and I do to any who will listen) but if I was told to go away and educate myself it would make me double down.

I hope Macy and Bette have support around them, it's only a matter of time until things come crashing down on tras.

NorthStarRising · 12/07/2022 09:35

A coward would have either said nothing or complied with the current zeitgeist and pointed out others committing ThoughtCrimes.

I am, yes. So no, I don't.

But Mumsnet is a form of social media, so that's not true, is it. You are not using your real name here to criticise her. If you were that confident, you wouldn't be here under a pseudonym.

RudsyFarmer · 12/07/2022 09:51

This is the one subject these artists should just refuse to comment on, plead the 5th. Her initial words were what 95% of women think but she made the mistake to vocalise it.

First they came for the GC Feminists...

They will eat themselves eventually. The far left and far right have the exact same motivations. They make up either end of the same horseshoe. I wouldn’t advise anyone risk their career for this.

WalrusSubmarine · 12/07/2022 10:27

I’ve just had a lovely thread about Bette pop up on my Facebook re her new film. Loads of supportive comments saying she’s done nothing phobic and noting that she’s speaking up for women and they don’t want her cancelled.
Normal people aren’t having it!

RudsyFarmer · 12/07/2022 10:30

It’s a shame EM looks to be stepping away from the Twitter deal. I was looking forward to some free speech on there.

LadyAnnabelsTapestries · 12/07/2022 10:41

Johnnysgirl · 11/07/2022 21:11

Fuck sake Hmm. Better to say nothing at all, than issue these craven apologies as soon as the squawking starts.

This!

Octomore · 12/07/2022 10:43

PearlClutch · 11/07/2022 21:24

I'd not call anyone a coward for bowing to threats and abuse. Hope she's okay and has plenty od support.

This. Calling her a coward is just as much bullying as what she'll have received from TRAs.

I assume you've obviously butchered your own career over this? No?

LadyAnnabelsTapestries · 12/07/2022 11:11

Clymene · 11/07/2022 21:42

She's not a coward. She's a woman who is tied to a recording contract.

There are a lot of questionable new posters on FWR.

Nah. A lot of namechangers.

WearyLady · 12/07/2022 09:06

Yes but here's what I think it really is, I think this video is aimed specifically at celebrities, whether they be actors, singers, or just influencers, those who drive the culture. She's been made an example of to them.

This video is tantamount to taking the woman who resists the hardest and loudest in the group and then humiliating her in front of the eyes of all of the other feisty women, so that all the others who would have come out are now too afraid even to venture to say or do anything.

It's not really aimed at lay women on the ground.

I think she was likely got at by her record company and, as has been said upthread, maybe her bandmates are pissed.

But also, the left of politics tends to inhabit the creative industries. So for someone like Macy it's not just backlash from aggrieved fans telling her they used to look up to her and now their entire lives have been ruined because they've discovered she's actually a real person with a mind, and (not just an idol they imbued with their own values) but likely many friends and associates in her circle share TWAW women views and 'Be kind' and are likely guilting and re-educating her too.

I follow a lot of creative people online and they are all, bar a tiny percentage, fully infused with leftist 'embrace everything without discrimination' right think, and even those who aren't, fall afoul of Be Kind. So I can't imagine the social atmosphere in the music industry.

I think anyone famous who wishes to publicly speak a GC view needs to be prepared to walk away from it for at least the short term, or say nothing, because being forced to publicly recant like this so obviously under duress, puts the frighteners on other influential people.

But with reflection, I agree with previous posters it is disgusting she's been broken down like this, especially disgusting to use such tactics on a woman with possible bipolar disorder.

Gogster · 12/07/2022 12:46

@Octomore I'm a SAHM so one benefit of that is being able to be open.

That was an uncomfortable watch, I feel sorry for her, it really was like a hostage video.
This must be what all the blue ticks/celebs are terrified of.

Blimy, some sudoscience nonesense and a few zelots can bring us to this so easily, I think there is something wrong in our society.
