She's a celebrity and vulnerable because of that, she lives in a country with plenty of armed nutters and her job is standing on a bloody stage in front of crowds. Even with her forced apology she will be very aware of how vulnerable she is every time she's performing.

Agree on both these points

She's been bullied, threatened and targeted. She relies on PR for her living.

She's been made to capitulate. This is a journey, and she's only just started. But I have absolutely zero doubt, whatsoever, that she will get there in the end, because her PR will be accommodating her view, not opposing it.

The tide has turned, and she's getting the last of the howling backlash.

Macy has bipolar disorder. She didn't seem quite alright in herself during the Piers Morgan interview, I actually felt uncomfortable watching it. I think she's vulnerable at the moment and had little clue about backlash she would receive.

100% this. The GC crowd want other people to do they heavy lifting for them then take credit for "supporting" them. It's weak, and cowardly.

I should elaborate.
Out in the real world, women understand, women know the truth, and women see what is happening.
Out in the real world real women are speaking to each other and in the real world women are not afraid to speak out.
Tinternet is not the real world. You need to get out more and listen to what women are actually saying to each other.

God this is so awfully sad.

I don't believe it's cowardly. Artists such as MG come along with a massive team, all of whom fall broke the moment she gets dropped. Those inferring the lack of contract clauses should know that when a major record company views you out if favour, you get unceremoniously dropped.

I'd question far more heavily the spineless PR and management teams who have manipulated this in order to conserve future business deals and their own destiny.

I actually pity Macy Gray in these circumstances. We can compare the unique position of JKR who in stark contrast can voice her opinions freely -not all artists are as fortunate.

my 20 yr old daughter went to a Pride march at the weekend. She came home and asked why the trans groups were so loud, angry and aggressive. She was totally alienated. Shocked at people walking around with barely healed mastectomy scars (her Aunt has just had one for breast cancer). They shout, scream, bully and harass. Pretty much 100% of people I know are GC but only about 10% are open about it. That number is increasing
all time though.

It is cowardly …but it’s also perfectly understandable. We all hope that when the spotlight is on us we’ll rise to the occasion. But when it’s your career in the line, and you have a family to support and you’re facing social ostracism, it’s bloody hard. Most will fall.

The video of her on the today show was very, very difficult viewing. it looked like she was being publicly humiliated in a Red Guard Struggle Session. I don’t know how you could watch it and not have empathy for the position she was in.

She might come back - remember JK Rowlings ‘middle age moment’ back in the beginning of her her support.

@Johnnysgirl Unless you've made your GC views public to a wide audience, you have no right to call her cowardly. Perhaps you need a reminder of how bad it gets

I wouldn’t blame her at all, it’s atrocious bullying. It’s perfectly understood that people can go on stress leave and have nervous breakdowns from
being bullied at work and that doesn’t make them cowards. I am in absolute awe of the strong women speaking out and the service they do for women, they are heroes. Macy couldn’t stand up to the bullies and we should send her love, not put the boot in. What she thinks won’t have changed, and I hope she has good friends.

The band/guns is certainly something I didn't think about when I originally called her a coward. I take that back.

I really hope this ugly episode peaks more people.

I don't think she's a coward. I think she's been bullied. I hope she has good people around her who are holding her hand while she endures it.

I save my ire for women who could speak out - like Caitlin Moran or Bridget Christie - who've made their career by purporting to be feminists but who choose to keep schtum
