Poor woman, she must have been getting utterly hammered.
So sick of all this.

achillestoes · 11/07/2022 21:01

Dreadful. She still thinks what she thinks.

Gogster · 11/07/2022 21:08

She of course knows the truth. Shame she's not brave enough to not apologise.

It's never enough anyway for the woke mob.

Johnnysgirl · 11/07/2022 21:11

Fuck sake Hmm. Better to say nothing at all, than issue these craven apologies as soon as the squawking starts.

BlackForestCake · 11/07/2022 21:13

Should read "Macy Gray was relentlessly bullied until she capitulated".

This is like the Moscow Trials.

dropthevipers · 11/07/2022 21:13

The only upside to this is that others can see that anything other than TWAW gets you tarred with the transphobe brush for life, with no chance of parole or remission. If you are going to come out as GC you might as well go all in.

I’ve only watched a couple of minutes of her hostage video and I know the gloves are just a fashion choice but I can’t help looking at her gloved hands and picturing them covered in welts from a re-education programme.
I feel really really sorry for Macy Gray, the abuse she will have got must have been horrendous.

PearlClutch · 11/07/2022 21:24

I'd not call anyone a coward for bowing to threats and abuse. Hope she's okay and has plenty od support.

Gogster · 11/07/2022 21:24

This is before the hostage video.

This is more like it!

I wonder if it was her management/promoters that ultimately made her apologise.

Macy Gray has capitulated

It is cowardly.

It is cowardly.

It is.

Clymene · 11/07/2022 21:42

She's not a coward. She's a woman who is tied to a recording contract.

There are a lot of questionable new posters on FWR.

Johnnysgirl · 11/07/2022 21:45

She's a woman who is tied to a recording contract.
I hardly imagine this is one of the clauses in her recording contract.

Metabigot · 11/07/2022 21:47

I don't doubt she was under a lot of pressure to cave. Whilst I don't blame her, I just wish she had somehow been able to say no to it.

Hopefully the fence sitters will see it as the bullying it is and open their eyes.

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/07/2022 21:49

It's not cowardly. It's a sad but understandable outcome given the absolute rage that women speaking their minds produces in some people. Every woman has the right to safeguard their own mental and physical health/wellbeing.

Clymene · 11/07/2022 21:51

Johnnysgirl · 11/07/2022 21:45

I'm sure it's not specified. But her label can make things very difficult.

I save my ire for women who could speak out - like Caitlin Moran or Bridget Christie - who've made their career by purporting to be feminists but who choose to keep schtum.

BlackForestCake · 11/07/2022 21:54

Perhaps not, but record companies have many ways of putting pressure on artists. For example, the record might come out and the company doesn't bother to promote it. Then the artist is stuck with a failed record and owes thousands to the record company because the record hasn’t earned back the advance.

BreadInCaptivity · 11/07/2022 21:54

We've no idea what pressure she's been put under.

Is it cowardly to "recant" if the alternative is that Spotify and other outlets won't play your songs, multiple venues won't host your gigs, your record contract is going to be pulled? Basically your entire income is under threat and you don't have the luxury of a vast fortune to shrug that prospect off? (Obviously these are theoretical examples).

There are many women who are scared (even post Maya) to present GC views because of the impact on their livelihoods. Are they all cowards too?

I'm not going to blame her. I feel bloody sorry for her.

I'm angry that we are still in a place where this wholesale bullying is acceptable and it's the bullies I blame and not Macy.

Gogster · 11/07/2022 21:56

I'm not new. I've name changed

Artichokeleaves · 11/07/2022 22:12

Poor woman. We'd all like to think we'd have the courage but to stand up to that kind of hammering? Sadly she'll now discover too that recanting will not be enough, nothing is ever enough.

But that was what successfully demonstrated the realities of this particular branch of politics to Martina and many others watching.

Odd isn't it? That it takes such behaviour and treatment to get people back in line. And it's all for their own good. And done in the name of righteousness. The only thing lacking are the threats of hell fire and weeping angels.

namitynamechange · 11/07/2022 22:14

I have no idea why she repented. But, it isn't just her livelihood at stake. She has a whole band she works with who would also have been impacted/tarred by association and they arent as well known as her but have likely spent 2 years working together on a creative project only to see it effectively chucked away in the course of one interview. That must be an incredibly awkward position to be in (see also Mumford and Sons). Plus, she lives in America where people have guns which probably makes the crazy TRA threat seem more pertinent.
I am not saying those are the reasons - but I dont think calling her a coward is fair.

namitynamechange · 11/07/2022 22:21

And the very obvious enjoyment some (def not all) commentators on the right get from watching her humiliation (even if they don't agree with her politics) is not pleasant to watch. Especially remembering 20 years ago they were deploying similar tactics against the Dixie Chicks.

Floisme · 11/07/2022 22:24

You’re calling her a coward on an anonymous website?
And you name-changed first?

That poor woman. I hope she’s comes through this ok.
