Trial started today.

I don’t know where to start with this:

I seem to remember one or more women MPs had similar driving convictions and I think were sacked or resigned. This guy is not a great role model, much as people pointing at the Education Secretary for giving the finger is nota great role model…but I think one has more consequences than the other. Funny how men get away with more.

CriticalCondition · 11/07/2022 18:35

The main point that stands out for me in the BBC report of the proceedings is the judge's comment in convicting Wallis. He said he was going to be upfront and he did not find Wallis was credible in the evidence he gave.

Wallis can wear what he likes. But I think his constituents deserve someone who is believed in a court of law.

Yes, he should resign.

Yes he should and if he doesn't do the decent thing, he isn't going to hold the seat at the next election anyway.

PaterPower · 11/07/2022 18:48

So many holes in his account. As the article points out, he wasn’t so confused that he couldn’t get himself changed and to bed in a different part of the house.

He wasn’t so confused / shaken up that he was unable to call his Dad (twice) from the scene (yet was too shaken up to use his phone to report to the police).

Not so confused that he forgot to take his medication… medication which somewhat conveniently might have masked other substances he may or may not have consumed earlier in the evening.

IMO his father should also be up on charges for assisting an offender / seeking to stop the investigation of a crime (or whatever the term is). HE (we have to assume) wasn’t unfit to drive and wasn’t too “shaken up” to call the Police on his son’s behalf. What’s his excuse? Why’s he not in court too?

Mr Watson got a good yarn to tell at parties. All very predictable. Hope the cat was ok.

Male, female, trans, enbie, stargender for all I care:

You don't drive in heels.

In my function as someone working in a very formal professional environment and hence "individual regularly seen on heels":

I thought everyone and their grandmother had, by now, figured out the good, old trick of "you come in trainers, you change into your heels around the corner from the office, you strut into said office on your heels, keep them on for as long as anyone can see your feet, take them off underneath your desk, strut out of the office again in heels, change back into trainers around the corner!"

This is not about gender identity!

It's not even just about presenting "feminine": "naice" high heels are expensive AF. Nobody in their right mind would want to wear down their stiletto heels walking outside unless it's absolutely required by circumstances. Personally, I change into a pair of "business appropriate" flats when I walk outside, even with clients present!

Zero sympathy from me!

That's very interesting. I thought India was very much of the "acceptance without exception" camp. And I didn't realise there was a hierarchy of acceptability when it came to wearing clothes?

Just a standard day in the Conservative party.

I am praying to the gods of “ blimey you couldn’t make it up could you” that he puts in a late entry for PM. It would just about fill up my bingo card and I could be a winner ( unlike Jamie who has loser written all over his little face)

Rubbish! I drive in heels. Have done for 40 years. Nothing wrong with heels for driving. Just make sure you have the correct mat so there's no scuffing. And I of course I walk around during the day in them. What's the point of having them and not wearing them. You might be wearing them for someone else's benefit, but I wear them because I love them. If he loves wearing them too, good on him.
I don't know what "naice" heels are. Some sort of code for a lovelier area than where you live?

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/07/2022 20:22

The Right Honourable MP for Bridgend is not a loser. He's one of the most important people in the country. One of the few people whose vote is important to the next Conservative PM.🤦‍♀️

I wonder what this Conservative MP's next stunning and brave move will be?🤔

Tbf he has been raped in the past.

So have many many women but it doesn’t work as an excuse for us, we’re supposed to ‘not be bigoted and reframe our trauma’

and as a number of residents heard the noise and came out to see what’s going on he’s pretty safe, it’s not like he was semi naked in an enclosed space with another male.

BootsAndRoots · 11/07/2022 20:44

When you read about the long history of this guy, it is one of the worst in the Conservative party, yet the media are laying off of him, whereas every other scandal was the headline.

Lesserspottedmama · 11/07/2022 20:46

I bet him and his pals have been having such a laugh all this time - announcing he’s trans (but still fully male, presenting as male, wanting to called and known as a male) as he knows full well that soon as he shouts trans everyone will be too terrified of being cancelled, threatened, abused and ruined - to say a word. Clever smug git, he’s certainly keeping all his cake and eating it.

Datun · 11/07/2022 20:52

Convicting him of the other charges, Judge Ikram said: "When I watched him give evidence it seemed to me he [was] fitting his own behaviour around the behaviour of PTSD, and his actions on that night does not suggest he was overwhelmed and acting out of fear that night."

No shit. 🙄

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/07/2022 21:12

Yet he's one of the most important people in the country atm and Conservative voters put him in that position.🤦‍♀️

Birdsweepsin · 11/07/2022 21:15

Overwhelmed as a newt?

Jamie Wallis the man behind SugarDaddy.net the platform which linked young students with businnessmen and diplomats willing to “sponsor” them through university.
How on earth did this man get selected as a candidate by theconstituency party? Who were the applicants who were not selected?
