Calling all environmental feminists! The Green Party is electing a new Deputy Leader & eight positions on the Executive Committee (GPEx). There are gender critical candidates for most posts, including Shahrar Ali for Deputy.
Voting will be throughout August.
If you join the party (for as little as £6.00) before 31st July, you will get a vote.

Wont there be some kind of Mccarthyite screening process where you have to sign a pledge along the lines of "I am now, and have always been, a believer in batshit mental notions of reality"?

Bluowl · 10/07/2022 23:48

So relieved to see a good selection of candidates who care about women's rights.
Eg Shahrar Ali for deputy, Alison Teal and Tina Rothery standing to be Co chairs of GPEX. All support eg liking tweets very welcome.

cariadlet · 10/07/2022 23:48

I left the Labour Party because the leadership didn't know what a woman is and joined the Green Party last summer purely to vote for Shahrah Ali in the leadership election.

I was tempted to leave when he wasn't elected but am so glad that I stayed.

My local party has been very friendly and welcoming. They are old school environmental activists who keep out of the political infighting that has beset the national party.

Thanks to the wonders of zoom and WhatsApp, I have got to know many Green Party members who defend Women's sex based rights and whi are fighting to bring the party back to reality.

That's the whole point of voting for GC candidates!

To get rid of the authoritarianism and batshittery.

Quite. I am assuming the Greens have been so captured that gatekeeping who gets to vote would be high on their list of priorities.

cariadlet · 11/07/2022 00:27

Anyone who is a member can vote.

There's actually a lot of good stuff going on in the party despite the batshittery.

Solid environmental campaigning.

The current Green Party Women's Committee are organising lots of good events. I've been to bookclub meetings (always books written by a woman) and a Spycops event where the speaker was one of the activists who had been tricked into a long term relationship with an undercover cop.

On 19th July, they've got an event about Women's abortion rights.

There is a real battle going on in the Greens, and the internal elections are a key part of that. Tina and Alison would be superb as GPEx chairs, and there are some great candidates standing for most of the other positions .
Gaining back the ground women have lost is happening in spite of the best efforts of the leadership to prevent women speaking, so please join and vote, and support the wonderful Green Party Women committee, who are putting on interesting, friendly and relevant events for women.

I saw and email last night for something today, must remember to register

I got all excited and then realised this is only for England and Wales.

The Scottish Green Party are shocking. Their MSPs were the only votes against an amendment to let rape victims ask for a medical examiner of their sex of choice instead of gender of choice.

cariadlet · 11/07/2022 06:56

The Scottish Greens are colluding with the SNP to erode women's rights.

I just hope there is a fightback within the party like there is in England and Wales.

cariadlet · 13/07/2022 05:32

The Green Party really needs environmental feminists to join and ti stop this idiot from becoming our Deputy Leader.

Women in the party deserve better.

So Zack is sitting on the men’s rights table. Gotcha.

Lib Dems also voted en masse against it. However, you are right Scottish Greens are a lost cause.

letterem · 13/07/2022 09:49

A lot of the candidates are trans activists, but despite the best efforts of the leadership, women are not shutting up about this.
I think Sian and Amelia stepping down is testament to the fact that they realise the authoritarian dogma of TWAW is no longer tenable, and though Carla Denyer is a trans activist, she has been less vocal about this issue than the TRA's would have wished.
The GPEx elections are important, as the party intends to overhaul its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion plan. GPEx members will be involved in that, and will influence how this 'inclusivity' is implemented.

DontAskIDontKnow · 18/07/2022 21:43

Right, I’ve joined the Green Party.

It feels like I’ve gone full circle, as I was planning to join the Green Party and start being more politically active when I noticed a thread about how they’d gone batshit and I started down this whole rabbit-hole.

I need someone I can vote for. This is giving me hope. I shall see if I can sign up for Green Party Women and see what’s going on locally.

PearlClutch · 18/07/2022 23:29

Welcome, DontAskIDontKnow!

Can I also suggest members sign up for Autumn Conference? Spring Conference had many relevant and interesting proposals, discussions. Votes were really close, but most went in favour of feminists.

There are some very good people fighting back against authoritarian and anti-women policies (and bringing focus back to actual green issues).

There's also a Green Feminists group, where you can sign up for emails and info: www.facebook.com/GreenFeminists

Scottish Greens are, as far as I've heard, a completely lost cause, I'm afraid.

TheGreatATuin · 19/07/2022 09:24

Another Green Party member here asking women to join and vote! We have the same problem with TRAs that the other parties do and, yes, they try all sorts of underhand tactics to try get women kicked out or shut down.
But there is also a strong GC faction and it's getting stronger. The key thing to remember about the Greens is that they're a small party and one of the reasons TRAs made it into so many key positions is that not a lot of members vote and often it's been only TRAs standing.
That's changing very fast, mostly due to sterling work from women within the Greens. The momentum is with us and I genuinely think it's only a matter of time before common sense reigns again.
Then we can have a party that not only supports women's rights but also focuses on climate change.
I know a lot of women feel politically homeless right now but I really think the Greens is the place to change that and the more women we can get on board, the faster it'll happen.
You also don't need to put your head above the parapet if you don't want to. The most important thing you can do is vote and voting is anonymous.
Membership fees aren't onerous either. If you're on the lower pricing, it's £3.33 per month so manageable for most.

TheGreatATuin · 19/07/2022 09:30

It's also worth mentioning that a lot of the TRAs kicking off in the GP recently has been about them having a little tantrum at things not going their way, so if you see Greens on social media ranting on about terfs or similar, don't think they're representative of all of us, there's a good chance that it's because they're cross about losing something.

GreenGoude · 19/07/2022 11:33

I absolutely echo @TheGreatATuin. We're definitely gaining ground and many more undecideds are leaning our way. Do join if you can before 31st July to add your vote: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Bluowl · 19/07/2022 14:19

I'm very pessimistic about it all generally but even I think if enough support us the GP could be rescued. Currently it's in turmoil over this even though some try and pretend it's not happening. It's currently not the party I joined years ago which did respect women, so feel even now the basis is there.

PearlClutch · 19/07/2022 15:03

I agree with GreatATuin and others. The Green Party has been the first to be captured, the first to realise what the 'trans rights' movement actually involves, and is now the first to fight back. Women are gaining ground and more and more members are aware of what's going on.

I hope in the long run it will make the party more robust, and strengthen policies that are open to misuse and abuse. Because god knows, we need a party that can advocated for the environment more than just about any other issue.

timeisnotaline · 19/07/2022 15:25

Oh I hope you are right! The Green Party australia is captured captured captured, and we really do need a focus on the environment that we can support. (It isn’t clear to me the Green Party aust are doing that either from the last week or so of ‘negotiations’ but I hope something gets agreed and that blows over)

cariadlet · 19/07/2022 18:05

For anyone on Twitter, the pinned thread here (and the 2nd tweet which is attached as a reply) recommends candidates who will support Women's Rights.
