Learning-disabled girls & women must accept men providing intimate care

This dreadful account from Transgender Trend is no doubt replicated all over the country as schools / social care / the NHS remove the rights to sex based care for these vulnerable young women, allowing men to provide intimate / personal care. Prioritising (yet again) the demands of this toxic lobby insisting that the safety, privacy and rights of women and girls no longer matter.

Warning - contains information about rape / HIV

A lot of care staff are female, but not everywhere. I got stuck in a nursing home for a few years. My floor sometimes only had a few female staff. Sometimes at night there was just one female HCA at night, not even working on my floor.

I'd have to wait over 1.5hours or more for care.

My placement there was under safeguarding due to SA from my husband. The placement knew this, & that I refused to have males in my room.

When the male night nurse worked I'd go without my injection until day shift, even though it was prescribed eight hourly. For morphine sometimes one male nurse would send the HCA in with it, he stayed at the door. The male agency nurse refused this, I stayed in pain.

There are real consequences to male care staff.

I have 24/7 care at home now. I've made my requirements for female (sex, not gender) care very clear.

I still panic when I have agency turn up, wondering if my request has been respected, especially on nights.

The standard should be female led care for female clients, unless indicated otherwise.

Yes, and I hope you get the care you need.

Men are perfectly capable of giving the same intimate care as women, it's not greatly difficult work and there's not enough thanks to the majority of men that do this kind of work. It's terrible when cases of abuse arise but these are not the norm and the majority of men that work in the field are wonderfully caring men who shouldn't be shamed based on the awful actions of others.

I hate comments like this, an absolute disregard for women. My dad sexually abused me when I was a toddler, it is my absolute worse fear to be in a situation where I'm vulnerable and I'm forced to allow a male to give me intimate care. But fuck my mental health and CPTSD right, because it's all about the men.

Shame on you.

I am so sorry for what happened to you. How absolutely terrible that your father did that to you.

You are right that it is absolutely not all right to put vulnerable girls and women in the hands of male carers.
