So sounds like BoJo is finally about to be dragged out and I'm wondering who would be best to replace him in terms of being sympathetic to a GC's point of view?

I was thinking Savid Javid potentially? Any thoughts from anyone else?

Politics is expediency. I'd not be confident that anyone who has expressed GC attitudes or sympathies would not discard them in a heartbeat if it suited them.

gingercat02 · 07/07/2022 09:22

Apparently Suella Braverman, the Attorney General is interested

Hoardasurass · 07/07/2022 09:36

I think javid would be best as he has well and truly seen through everything is transphobic line that stonewall etc al push

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 09:38

Javid or Truss.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 09:40

Baker’s putting his hat in.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/07/2022 09:45

For the sake of the country, I want someone competent and reasonably honest. Truss is keeping her head down. Abroad, apparently. Thinking back to when Thatcher resigned, IIRC Major was either Chancellor or Foreign Secretary at the time, and had a very convenient wisdom tooth extraction. He was incommunicado for days while everyone else thrashed about trying to get Thatcher to resign, and then jostling for position as her successor, and lo and behold, up pops Major, with fairly clean hands, and scoops the pool.

Javid or Truss.

Dear God not Liz Truss or Nadine Dorres for that matter. Both would be a world wide embarrassment

Ridcully82 · 07/07/2022 09:50

What's is Ben Wallace's stance on biology,if anyone knows?
I wouldn't want Mordant.

TheSoundOfLunch · 07/07/2022 09:50

Are there in fact any politicians in the UK who actually want to serve the public?

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 09:52

I don’t find Truss embarrassing. Most of that is misogyny.

Phobiaphobic · 07/07/2022 09:52

I'm just worried there'll be a general election and Labour will get in and immediately implement self ID

donquixotedelamancha · 07/07/2022 09:53

On the right Ben Wallace seems most likely to me with Liz Truss a close second.

On the left Penny Mordaunt is probably more popular with the rank and file than Jeremy Hunt but I think the main left winger will lose quickly and need to get behind the centre.

Sajid Javid seems the most likely successful centre candidate to me. If he can beat off the likes of Zahawi quickly while the right are split he may not face Wallace in the members pole, in which case he should win.

Kemi Badenoch is very popular. I think she could be the leader after next.

I think Sunak and Gove have no chance. Sunak is an open goal to labour and Gove's skeletons are peaking out of the closet already.

This is my biggest fear because once self id is in it will never go away.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 10:00

Yes, we need there to be a new leader and we need that leader to be GC, and good.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 07/07/2022 10:04

I'd be alright with Sajid Javid I reckon. With Rishi back as chancellor.

Same here. I am not a natural Tory but I will vote for them to keep Labour / Lib Dems out because once self id is on the law books, getting it out will be nigh impossible.

donquixotedelamancha · 07/07/2022 10:06

Yes, we need there to be a new leader and we need that leader to be GC, and good.

None of the candidates are GC feminists but apart from Mordaunt they all know what a woman is.

Badenoch or Truss are the biggest allies for feminists on that issue only but I think Javid is a good and likely outcome.

JoodyBlue · 07/07/2022 10:08

Javid impressed me when he resigned rather than agreeing to sack his advisory team on the behest of Johnson/Cummings. He has consistently stood his ground in matters of personal integrity. That type of character would go a long way right now.

AnyFucker · 07/07/2022 10:10

Javid

I get you but I don’t think this will happen soon and the next GE is best lead by someone else now as Johnson was too damaged

I would be happy with Javid

I like Wallace but he’s really focussed on his brief and I’m not sure what his GC views are, he’s quite popular with grassroots apparently

Sunak is ok but also damaged with public

Yep, and the recent Bristol Council voting - who are dominated by the left - might be a microcosm of how national policies would go.

Same.

PearlClutch · 07/07/2022 10:26

I'm not quite sure the leader matters all that much to feminists, tbh. It seems to be the ministers in charge of each individual area - Javid for Health, whoever ends up being Education minister, etc, that makes the real difference.

So we just need to be ready to lobby all over again, I suppose.

It's a good reminder that we need to keep campaigning on the issues and awareness, and not rely too much on individual people.

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 10:28

I do think the leader sets the scene though

Starmer who lies re biology is far worse than one who states reality

ThePumpkinPatch · 07/07/2022 10:29

Personally - Rishi. But for non-political reasons, ironically.
