Not quite sure what they're up to, but it doesn't seem very legal.

They have made themselves as ludicrous as Alabama or wherever it was passing resolutions denying evolution.

oviraptor21 · 06/07/2022 19:34

Appalling. Have they lost all sense of reality? Are they really so anti-women that they just chuck us under the bus?

At least it will be a biomethane-powered bus... fuelled by the BS from the council chamber, no doubt!

Shit shit shit. BCC are my employers. I've been anxiously looking out for pronoun crap etc but thought things were ok at present. Luckily I'm near retirement so I can fuck off if I have to, sorry if that's cowardly.

Speedweed · 06/07/2022 19:49

Nothing about immediately closing the gender pay gap for council employees to affirm their belief that all genders are equal? Thought not...

In practice there is nothing they can do if you challenge the nonsense. Maya's victory demonstrates that.

I know it's still not easy to speak up but the law is on your side for those who choose to.

So, they ar going to spend council tax payers' money on installing menstrual protection facilities into all the gents' toilets across the city, just in case one day a trans-identified female uses one of them, AND still has her menstrual cycle, AND has her period, AND does not use period pants or a mooncup, AND must use a sanitary towel bin?

Can someone work out the statistical likelihood of that happening?

Ladyof2022 · 06/07/2022 23:02

.... could she not pop in the ladies just that once?

I'm guessing not -

Or use a unisex/accessible toilet?

I feel like all this trans stuff is fiddling while Rome burns.

Using trans rights like this is an easy way to show how inclusive they are, and sadly loads of people like a sad story (literal genocide anyone?) but not enough to actually look into it in any depth.

Call me cynical, but trans rights are basically free to implement, because they are already there. Just stick a few pronouns around, stop using hateful words like woman, breastfeeding, mother, or refer to any medical issue that only affects women as people, and there we go. Simple.

Local authorities tend to have shitty records when it comes to educating disabled and vulnerable children, mainly because it costs them money. Plus the people trying to change things there are burnt out mothers with very little energy to fight.

But sure, let’s focus on rights that are already in place, and undermine fast-eroding women’s rights.

'In this organisation, women earn 91p for every £1 that men earn when comparing median hourly pay. Their median hourly pay is 9.3% lower than men’s.'

BCC might be better off focusing their resources on their shameful SEND services, and the many vulnerable children they are letting down on a daily basis.

SweetSakura · 06/07/2022 23:44

Someone needs to (very swiftly) mobilise and seek a judicial review.

SweetSakura · 06/07/2022 23:46

I think there are only about 6 weeks to seek a judicial review of a decision. And it requires expert legal advice.

Really disappointed the legal team weren't able to get through to councillors about the risks of passing such a motion. It is ripe for challenge given the Maya decision.

Next to zero

Manchester had a similar motion in February Hmm

Sefton had similar recently too.

Strikemepink · 07/07/2022 06:45

I am tempted to send an FOI request for the equality impact assessment!

Great points

_It doesn't interest you?

Are you happy to get changed in the presence of a naked male? Or a fully dressed male? Because if you are in Bristol the council say that male is a woman? If you have a daughter would you be happy for her to have limbs broken by a biological male in a rugby match?

How about staying on a hospital ward? _

This should be of high internet to ALL women. We need a co-ordinated effort and campaign on this to raise awareness.

Iknowitisheresomewhere · 07/07/2022 07:17

Actually, absent the cost, I think installing sanitary bins in the mens is a great idea. Will really bring home the position to a large number of men who are unaware, and slightly inconvenience them - they aren’t going to react positively.

Doubt it probably just end up urinating on it if it's at the side of the toilet.

SweetSakura · 07/07/2022 07:28

@Strikemepink that would be a good idea.

MaMaLa321 · 07/07/2022 07:33

to be fair, amendments were made to the initial motion.
Glad that someone else pointed out how much time the Chair (Paula O'Rourke, Green) gave to the Labour councillor to witter on about their friend and constantly tried to cut off voices from the other side.
What a great, well informed Tory councillor.
If you look at it further, the motion lifted whole chunks of stats from - yes - Stonewall.
I can only say that this is absolutely typical of Bristol.

Parsley1234 · 07/07/2022 07:39

BCC the worst council ever I had to share a building with them working for DWP just a dreadful dreadful organisation
