From their fb: "pride heralds a time where we can stop. commemorate lgbtqia+ history and take a moment to reflect in awe at the positive progress made by inspirational thought-leaders + brave changemakers. it’s a time to celebrate what it means to be truly proud of who you are, who you love + everything that makes you unique. proud beyond pride is about giving our platforms over to lgbtqia+ voices who live loudly, champion inclusivity + are a force for positive change

this pride season, we’re proud to be partnering with celebrated illustrator josh mckenna. we commissioned josh to express what pride means to him, through his characteristically tongue-in-cheek, bold, diverse and all-inclusive (as it should be in 2022) style

we’re also excited to be partnering with the inspirational charity mermaids. mermaids has been supporting transgender, non binary and gender diverse young people and their families since 1995. nationwide, we will be donating 25p of every power juice sold to mermaids. we’re also donating 20% of profits of our bespoke menu in wagamama old street, wagamama manchester st peters and wagamama pourtsmouth

these funds will go towards their role in empowering thousands of transgender, nonbinary and gender diverse people and supporting their mission to educate and inform wider society on gender identity"

Oh fuck off and take your power juice with you 😡

Shame. I'm organising a friend group meet-up next month and Wagamama was on the list.

Guess which restaurant will quietly sidle off the list that this GC woman is picking from now?

achillestoes · 02/07/2022 06:23

No more cheap noodles for me.

rogdmum · 02/07/2022 06:37

“inspirational charity”? I wish I could find email contacts for the legal departments of all the companies that support Mermaids so I could send them screenshots from the Mermaids Youth Forum. It would be interesting to see if any of them recognise the risks around adolescents merrily recommending GenderGP to each other and strategising about how to lie to GPs to get bridging prescriptions etc all with the moderators turning a blind eye to it.

StandUpStraight · 02/07/2022 06:53

I saw this yesterday after I had ordered the food - they had a flyer on each table. I paid using the menu QR code, which gave me the opportunity to leave them some detailed feedback on their choice of charity, and to tell them why I wouldn’t be returning. If I had had a pen on me, I would have made a few notations on the flyers for the next customers to read.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/07/2022 07:04

Balls, another one off the list. I used to love a Wags now and then. Angry

Artichokeleaves · 02/07/2022 07:14

Yeah no one is going to educate me out of believing women deserve access and equality as much as TQ+ people do and should not be subordinated to male people, that safeguarding children should be optional depending on whether it presents boundaries that someone dislikes encountering, or that homosexual people should have the right to say no to sex with anyone of the opposite sex regardless of whether or not the person of the opposite sex agrees.

That kind of 'education' is nothing positive at all. Shame, I liked the food. Can't bloody stand the politics and total disregard for others though, so done there.

It’s a commercial business. If you don’t like their policies other options are freely available! Personally I am happy they are backing pride.

PurpleChairs · 02/07/2022 07:33

Another one on my list to avoid. Thanks for the heads up as we often get Wagamamas for a work lunch.

But they’re not backing Pride as most people understand’Pride’. They are backing transing away the gay and a gender ideology that damages homosexuals, particularly lesbians. I can’t think of anything less supportive of homosexual Pride.

If you go on the Law Society website you can look up in house lawyers for any company (use pro search) solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk/?Pro=True. You can usually work out or guess the email addresses.

Though I would probably target the CEOs rather than the lawyers www.ceoemail.com/

ChagSameachDoreen · 02/07/2022 08:16

No more yaki-soba for me.

ShirleyJackson · 02/07/2022 08:25

Power Juice?

Kool-Aid, more like.

miltonj · 02/07/2022 08:25

Tampopo is similar and much better Smile

Needmoresleep · 02/07/2022 08:50

I use wagamama a lot. It is my go to restaurant when I am someplace new.

I have just tried to write a complaint, as I felt I should let them know why I no longer visit. And to suggest the Bayswater Support Group as an alternative. (I know from a paediatrician friend that an alternative form of parental support to Mermaids that allows for watchful waiting is badly needed.)

However their system rejected both my emails, saying they were not valid, (one outlook, one gmail) so the complaint could not go through. Have I been blocked? Do Wagamama block GC people? A pretty rum complaints service.

FunnyTalks · 02/07/2022 08:54

If in London there are so many alternatives to these big chains. Whatever you might think about deliveroo, just eat etc, they certainly make ordering from small independent restaurants very accessible.

Yeah if you're pro male supremacism and persecuting homosexuals for their sexuality you do you.

The issue is that when a business is truly stupid enough to make it very clear they support an extremist political party that is openly and highly anti other people's rights and freedoms, the customers that they are anti having rights and freedoms are obviously going to avoid them like mad, while many other people are going to think they don't want to support the harms to other groups.

They could have just been tolerant and welcoming of everyone. But no.

AtrociousCircumstance · 02/07/2022 10:16

Fuck off Wagamamas. For good.

As per a PP, I'd suggest that you contact the CEO and copy in the Corporate Social Responsibility lead as well.

Notmanybroadbeans · 02/07/2022 11:35

Wtf, it's July. What is "Pride season"? Is that what "Proud beyond Pride" means? That it now lasts all summer?

TidyDancer · 02/07/2022 11:47

Oh no! I love Wagamamas. Definitely won't be going while this bullshit partnership is happening though.

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 12:51

They went way off years ago when the ey decided that their loos were to be unisex (oops ‘genda nootral’). Not. brilliant for a place where loads of families with kids and teenagers shopping in town go.

plus aren’t they really bad for using rubbish ingredients and wasting loads?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 13:39

I'm reminded of this twitter.com/genderwang/status/1541161996602703873?s=21&t=SLWk-GLLHskMngtDsARfCQ

RunSeaSurf · 02/07/2022 14:34

No more Wagas here either. My kids love it. But I pay the bills so goodbye.
We had already stopped ordering Waga takeaway due to the shocking amount of plastic they use.
I cannot believe they support Mermaids. It’s like no one did any research at all.

FrancescaContini · 02/07/2022 14:41

Shame as we love their food but we won’t be contributing to a business that supports Mermaids.

Good on them,

Btw "drunk it in" is ridiculously patronising.
