From their fb: "pride heralds a time where we can stop. commemorate lgbtqia+ history and take a moment to reflect in awe at the positive progress made by inspirational thought-leaders + brave changemakers. it’s a time to celebrate what it means to be truly proud of who you are, who you love + everything that makes you unique. proud beyond pride is about giving our platforms over to lgbtqia+ voices who live loudly, champion inclusivity + are a force for positive change

this pride season, we’re proud to be partnering with celebrated illustrator josh mckenna. we commissioned josh to express what pride means to him, through his characteristically tongue-in-cheek, bold, diverse and all-inclusive (as it should be in 2022) style

we’re also excited to be partnering with the inspirational charity mermaids. mermaids has been supporting transgender, non binary and gender diverse young people and their families since 1995. nationwide, we will be donating 25p of every power juice sold to mermaids. we’re also donating 20% of profits of our bespoke menu in wagamama old street, wagamama manchester st peters and wagamama pourtsmouth

these funds will go towards their role in empowering thousands of transgender, nonbinary and gender diverse people and supporting their mission to educate and inform wider society on gender identity"

Oh fuck off and take your power juice with you 😡

They went way off years ago when the ey decided that their loos were to be unisex (oops ‘genda nootral’). Not. brilliant for a place where loads of families with kids and teenagers shopping in town go.

plus aren’t they really bad for using rubbish ingredients and wasting loads?

Agree with this. Last time I went, pre lockdown, I went up to the loos with teen daughter. The loo was a unisex area but with different cubicles, set up as a very narrow galley (I think with sinks) but with the loos on one side. She had to walk past the first few male cubicles to get to the designated female ones at the other end. It was really quiet, if she had gone up alone a man could have easily pulled her into a cubicle and locked it. It was far away from the main area and really unsafe. Dd was very glad that I was with her. I haven’t been back.

KittenKong · 04/07/2022 09:53

The one near us has the loos all off a single rather dimly lit corridor. Absolutely nothing to stop someone yoiking a kid into a cubicle - no one would see. And kids do like to ‘nip to the toilet’ by themselves.

teawamutu · 04/07/2022 10:25

Nicer (and cheaper) little local Japanese restaurant was my first port of call anyway, but this has cemented it.

MenopausalMe · 05/07/2022 17:03

I always picked Wagamamas for a quick lunch out but other restaurants that don’t partner with dodgy organisations are available.

SheWhoWontBeNamed · 05/07/2022 17:09

That's another one on my s*list. I'll be ceremonially burning the Wagamama's cookbooks at 2 Peter Square later this week.

It’s a commercial business. If you don’t like their policies other options are freely available! Personally I am happy they are backing pride.

And there we have it! When not carefully thinking ahead of Themselves, all TRAs, allies etc do actually think that Pride is a Trans thing and no LG or B need to mentioned ever!

KittenKong · 05/07/2022 17:25

Silly Mildred’s vegan restaurant (used to be a jouro haunt off Soho) is giving dosh to merfolks.

man alive!

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 05/07/2022 17:30

My DC was planning a graduation meal in Portsmouth... I'll let them all know that Wags is off the list.

Surely the company must have read something recent about what Mermaids do?

I'm still shocked by the YouTube footage of the scenes the Women's rally in Bristol at College Green. Pictures of those masked masculine figures in black are a chilling view of oppression at work!

(They enclosed the women and cut them off from other people . Then they were standing in front of individual women- leaning over them and into their faces in typical abuser-style . )

The footage is at:

Standing for women Bristol rally meets TRA counter-demo! What happened? - YouTube:

Surely no business would want to be on the side of those bullies?

They are attacking women now but they are just a mob. Property owners they take against could be next.

stillsmilingtoday · 05/07/2022 17:36

Please can you upload screenshots of the mermaid stuff along with a link to where to find it? I’ll happily send it on to some ceos x

LittleSockOfHorrors · 05/07/2022 17:40

Oh for gods sake! I could cry.

KittenKong · 05/07/2022 17:42

You’d think the penny was beginning to drop now.

How can they look at their antics and think ‘that’s ok’ even if - as we all know - it’s in persuit of the mini rainbow £ (who are a fickle bunch) - when does morals and ethics kick in?

QuillBill · 05/07/2022 17:43

Good on them,

What do you think is good about it @beautyisthefaceisee ?

FixTheBone · 05/07/2022 17:54

I find the whole thing a bit OTT to be honest.

If I was a "voice living loudly" championing my heterosexuality everybody would think I was a bit weird.

I accept that there is sometimes conscious effort required to ensure that minorities of all types aren't unintentionally marginalised or excluded, but there's also going too far and too in your face with the message.

McDuffy · 05/07/2022 18:00

I had a casual conversation about TW in women's sport with a work colleague (as casual as one can when one doesn't know their views, anyway!). The colleague is v good friends with the Wagamama CEO who had told colleague about TERF groups being funded by far-right organisations Confused I've seen that lie on Twitter but never heard it in real-life before.

OhThatChicken · 05/07/2022 18:03

Are they allergic to capital letters and punctuation?

So disappointed about this because their chicken katsu is one of my favourites. I'm going to have scope out other options now. I'm done.

LettuceB · 05/07/2022 18:06

I went to Sainsbury's today and had a coffee with my my mum, similar set up in the cafe there - two unisex toliets in sealed cubicles with a small lobby connecting them to the cafe.

I was worried for her safety when she went to the toilet (she's 80 and wouldn't be able to defend herself) alone, but kept my eye on the lobby door and fortunately no one else went in.

QuillBill · 05/07/2022 17:43

Supporting transgender and non binary.

Honestly, the fact people think wagamama will care that people are now not going to go on a friday ngiht for noodles baffles me. Are people that self indulgent?

Artichokeleaves · 05/07/2022 19:04

Supporting this partisan, extremist political position is to raise two fingers to females' equality and existence, to enable a highly misogynist, anti-woman, homophobic agenda, and to support highly dodgy treatment of children.

If that's your bag, well that's your problem. <shrug>

But if that's necessary to supporting 'transgender and non binary' (people? Or politics? Or just the words in general?) then something's gone majorly wrong somewhere, because why does it involve making such awful choices? Why does it enforce such dire prejudices?

And don't expect me to be interested in spending money or going near any agency proudly declaring that my existence as a female homosexual is something they are prejudiced against.

Again, if you're good with that - that's your problem. You're not going to get screamed at or cancelled here. I'm just going to think you're a bit of a twit.

QuillBill · 05/07/2022 19:37

Supporting transgender and non binary.

I see. Fair enough.

I don't support anything Mermaids do. I can't imagine the horror of discovering your child has been prescribed such life altering drugs without their parents knowledge.

beautyisthefaceisee · 05/07/2022 19:41

Cool.

I'll carry on "drinking it in" and "being a twit" (talk aout patronising and offensive) and you carry on sitting in your house refusing to set foot with the delusion that anyone will notice.

LittleSockOfHorrors · 05/07/2022 19:41

*Good on them,

Btw "drunk it in" is ridiculously patronising.*

Aren't you the poster who was absolutely up in arms about the fictional character HuggyWuggy???

But you like Mermaids?

What a paradox!

CaptionChaos · 05/07/2022 19:51

I still minimise my Nestle our purchases and ignored Barclays when I was influencing a corporate refinancing worth millions.

My grudges are long and spill into my work life.

TitsInAbsentia · 05/07/2022 23:10

beautyisthefaceisee · 03/07/2022 17:34

Good on them,

Btw "drunk it in" is ridiculously patronising.

Definition of patronising - treat in a way that is apparently kind or helpful but that betrays a feeling of superiority.

I don't think there was anything 'apparently kind' about me saying they have drunk it in, I think the phrase itself is widely acknowledged as being an insult.

It's my choice to not support businesses who behave in this way, as it is yours to continue to. And as other people have said there are other noodles a available, its just now I have a choice.
