H/t to Gillian Phillip for flagging this on twitter. It is brilliant - lots may quibble with some the decisions the academics have made in the guidance but without being too absolutist about it I think this would massively improve reporting of sex crime in particular.

Hats off to both Dr Amy Binns and Sophie Arnold for sticking their heads above the parapet on this - any academic who does is very brave. And also to the involved. Lets hope they back their staff.

Very wise guidance. It's long overdue for the press to step away from the trans lobbyists who have tried to manipulate the truth for years. I find it incredible that so many media outlets who openly challenging the extreme demands from trans activists, meekly follow the guidelines written by self interested lobbyists.

I'm hopeful that soon the press will think "fuck this - telling lies for the benefit of offenders" and start reporting these crimes (which are so often committed against children and women) honestly. And then we can watch the fall out - an open press telling the truth or the pursuit of lies in the interests of offenders.

If only it was mandatory, not just guidance. The press should tell the truth, even if it is unpalatable.

The new guidance is excellent. There is another thread on this issue: www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4578492-new-guidance-for-reporters-on-trans-issues

It really is good. Clear-sighted and fact based. Twitter is hysterical as a result, natch.

Gosh that's a straightforward report. No weasel words, no flannel.
