Surrogacy summed up in one photo

I couldn’t care less if they’re kissing the woman or if she’s on their shoulders like a hero, surrogacy should be banned. It exploits women and treats children like commodities. A few ‘nicer’ photos , including the mother, (because she is the mother), doesn’t make this disgusting practice ok.

From what I can see, she chose to be a surrogate.

Her body, her choice.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 26/06/2022 13:54

Fair enough any

I just think she shouldn’t be blurred out in the background in any photo taken and that the other woman shouldn’t be carrying a sign saying she is a body part akin to a message bag.

The time to make it all about the parents and the baby is when the baby is born.

It also just makes the women look like a necessary evil and they are so much more than that.

Im not outraged. Just saddened.

InFiveMins · 26/06/2022 13:56

Awful.

MissMaple82 · 26/06/2022 14:00

Wrong.. in so many ways

Chose..lol.

When rich women are surrogates for poor women, I might think it’s a choice. Never ever gonna happen.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/06/2022 14:01

That is horrific. Almost like they deliberately drew from The Handmaid's Tale aesthetic.

SongsAboutYou · 26/06/2022 14:02

*and men

And I think the word surrogate is used wrongly. The woman carrying the baby is the actual mother, not the surrogate mother.

The surrogate is surely the person who takes the baby from the actual mother.

Spot on

So would prefer capitalism to be overthrown?

Me too!

Supporting capitalism doesn't mean there should be no regulations on what can be bought and sold. I do not want to "overthrow capitalism" and I don't support surrogacy or the normalisation of prostitution.

1VY · 26/06/2022 14:22

Even in a capitalist society, babies should not be bought as a commodity.
Kidneys should not be bought.
Children should not be sexually abused for money.

Honestly, just pretend it's a man + a woman at the front if you must, and the photo becomes perfectly acceptable i.e. it's a photograph of the parents for their family album.

That's pretty homophobic of you to suggest that the picture becomes acceptable if the couple in the foreground are heterosexual! Did you really mean that?

Viviennemary · 26/06/2022 14:29

Its bern happening for ages. And nobody bats an eyelid. So what difference does putting it into a photo make.

CatherinaJTV · 26/06/2022 14:32

you'll all be happy to hear then that after Roe vs Wade has been overturned, some States no longer allow IVF at all, also not for cis het couples.

Luxa · 26/06/2022 14:32

Cattle status? The woman is still a woman, not a cow. Whether you agree with surrogacy or not, she hasn't been 'reduced' by choosing to do this.

Personally, yes. I've never supported IVF .

I got you beat

Theres quite a few on this list that is alarming but this is the worst

If you can’t read it, it says on the mens about about the new baby. On the woman’s, it just says uterus

link

@Soubriquet Jesus fucking Christ that photo is bad.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/06/2022 14:38

Is the surrogate stood in the naughty corner?

NotMyFinestMoment · 26/06/2022 14:39

She should be centre stage, with them either side of her. That is a horrible picture.

Praise be

Inamuddle36 · 26/06/2022 14:53

Most posters are assuming the “womb person” is also the “mother”. It is also possible the egg has come from a donor, mixed with sperm from one or both men, and resulting embryo implanted into the womb. The men are gazing at each other as if they are both the fathers which, of course, biologically is not possible. The photo seems to suggest that both the egg (half the baby’s genetic inheritance) and the womb are irrelevant. Presumably the baby eventually will be told something about the biological mother and perhaps also about the “womb person”. Perhaps at some point this “womb for hire” business will be normalised. But at the moment it seems odd and undermines the importance of gene inheritance to individuals’ health, personality and other traits.
in reply to those who say “the baby will have loving parents”: how do you know? We know as little about the likelihood these two men will be “loving parents” as we do about any new parents. Some of us get it right and some of us don’t — regardless of our sexuality.

ancientgran · 26/06/2022 14:54

I thought that maybe she didn't want to be identified so she was in the background so the "bump" was in the photo.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/06/2022 14:55

The only time I think surrogacy is acceptable is if it is done out of love for, say a family member, and no money changes hands. Even then I'm uncomfortable with it. No one has a right to have a baby, certainly no one has a right to buy a baby. The power dynamic is always unbalanced, and as a PP said above, when rich women do this as a service for poor women, we can have a conversation about the topic. Until then, these men can fuck the fuck of with their misogyny. Just because they're gay doesn't make it any less misogynistic.

achillestoes · 26/06/2022 14:57

Absolutely. The ‘right to have a baby’ narrative is the height of narcissistic entitlement. Nobody has a right to use someone else’s body for their own gain.
