Yes!

I presume this isn't your focus, but it's not just women who may need access to abortions. Sometimes it's GIRLS, literal children.

ReachedTheEndofCake · 24/06/2022 17:06

Absolutely horrified

achillestoes · 24/06/2022 17:02

If you think women don’t deserve their own word, why are you the person to protect their right to safe and legal abortion?

Yes, achilles.

I am in the US. It's a grim day, but one we've known was coming since 2016.

I am angriest at the conservatives who've been pushing for this for decades, but I am also angry at the progressives who have taken women's votes and work for granted while making little to no effort to enshrine abortion rights at the federal level.

That's not what Warren means though or why she used the term.

EdithStourton · 24/06/2022 17:08

Oh fuck.

Not unexpected, but still oh fuck.

anystropheus · 24/06/2022 17:11

Maybe.

Maybe she's including women, and girls, and trans men, and non binary people.

That's not the focus of my concern though.

How can it be an attack on woman if woman don't exist? So it's not at all sexist or misogynistic. If you don't have women then how can you have female body autonomy.

She is just as culpable in this as the right wing fanatics that have so much power in America.

Be complicit in erasing woman, and you open the door for this to happen.

Floisme · 24/06/2022 17:15

I really feel for women in the US. I've no idea who they can turn to now, surely not the Democrats who had how many years to try and put Roe Vs Wade on a more stable footing, and who now think they can fight this without even naming the sex who's affected. Cynical, self serving tossers each and every one.

💐 for our US posters.

Abhannmor · 24/06/2022 17:15

There will be demos here in Europe of course. But I hope there is some more practical help we can offer US women.

Agreed. I'm feeling quite frustrated today that people cannot understand that by erasing women as a distinct sex class you cannot argue abortion is a women's rights issue and denying them access discriminates against women only.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 17:31

America really is a shithole country isn't it? So pro-life that they are happy to see primary school kids massacres in their classrooms. Fuck them.

Also, I know their political system is completely different to ours, but I don't really get the point of having a 'President' when the current one is pro-abortion rights and pro-gun control, and there is seemingly absolutely fuck all he can do about either issue.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 17:34

Does anyone have a source for that Posie Parker 'comment'? I have seen it doing to rounds on Twitter but it's completely cropped without context, it looks like a FB post but Posie Parker doesn't have a personal page I don't think (just Standing for Women?)

I mean, if that is her opinion then I disagree with her and I think it's possible to fight for both at the same time.

bellinisurge · 24/06/2022 17:35

Use our fucking words or fuck off.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 17:41

I really hate how some prominent TRAs have appropriated this issue as well, in order to deflect from the other threats to women's rights and also to prove how they are just much better feminists than actual women.

Just fuck off, it's nothing to do with you, you have no right to take this issue, stay in your lane.

It's the same as a white person going on and on about race issues, and claiming that they care more about the issue than black people themselves.

Thelnebriati · 24/06/2022 17:41

I've just seen an interview with a young women celebrating outside the White House and hoping for a total ban.
It worries me that people can support the state having the right to sentence women to death for the crime of an unlucky pregnancy.

I don't know the source but Ruth Serwotka shared it yesterday so it predates this announcement plus the end is missing: 'Once we can....' what?

chilling19 · 24/06/2022 17:44

Just devastating. I hope women in the US fight this hard.

nepeta · 24/06/2022 17:49

Is the Elizabeth Warren video the one on this page elizabethwarren.com/ when you scroll down, the first on the left at the bottom?

Poppins2016 · 24/06/2022 17:50

To put it simply, I'm flabbergasted, I can't figure out how banning abortion is OK but banning guns isn't...
...What about all those innocent children who have lost their lives in school shootings (feels like a huge contradiction/double standards).

nepeta · 24/06/2022 17:50

This is the YouTube link for the same video

It is about who has the power in the society, ultimately, or that is my interpretation. The idea is that men are citizens and have the right to defend themselves and what is theirs, and that women and children belong to that 'theirs'. Women don't have the right to control their fertility. That belongs to their husbands and parents and their churches etc.

Misstache · 24/06/2022 16:24

You can’t possibly think that post by Posie Parker is good or hopeful. Abortion access affects far more women and girls. That post shows that there are many using a so-called women’s rights agenda to promote a radical right wing agenda. The same people parading around yelling “what is a woman” gleefully are celebrating stripping our fundamental bodily rights. Come on. She’s free to say and believe what she wants and has been clear she’s not a feminist, but you cannot possibly think that post is a reasonable take on women’s rights or that Trans issues trump all other social issues for women. How disturbing.

Agreed 100%Misstache .
