She does! They are so unbelievably arrogant, and they come across as a boring ladz club. They don't have any idea what GC feminists actually believe, they take the social construct of gender as an unquestionable truth which everything flows from, and they don't grasp the misogyny of the whole movement, because as ladz they have never questioned their own and that of their privileged friends. These people are the class who end up running charities and public sector organisations too. They are the people doing PR and social media. They are intelligent within limits, but unable to see past their own egos and filter group bias. Lucy is brilliant as she cuts through that.

Most of their arguments to her boil down to #BeKind because for all their education and affected worldliness these people have never questioned the prevailing orthodoxy.

Jesus Christ, Lucy deserves a medal. Sea of ignorant twats is an accurate description.

She is very good not to snap at them. The way they try to twist what she says. Lucy is on my heroes list, along with JK and Magdalen Berns

I couldn't agree more with all the above. She is a personal hero of mine too. The misogyny on that board is something something behold.

I abandoned ROF when it became clear it is basically just incels/MRA types now. Weirdos and their sock puppets. It’s a shame because while there were always twats it used to be a laugh, and not as hostile to female posters.

Also, we should need a bespoke lawyer section in this corner of mumsnet. How the legal profession has become so enthralled of an ideology that misrepresents the law so badly is honestly beyond me. And how specifically the SRA and BSB are captured too. I frankly despair.

Anyway, back to ROF and Lucy. She is an incredible force of nature and uses a clear and cogent language against a barrage of garbage twaddle that is thrown back at her. I know that younger lawyer/aspiring weeks lurk in the forum so I have no doubt she is doing some sterling work getting other people to read the arguments I hope so anyway!!!

I think it’s had it to be honest. As I said there were always dickheads but also posters who were funny and original. That’s pretty much gone now. I think it’s dying in its arse so maybe just let it.

I had a year long hiatus from RoF while I was on maternity leave and I only rejoined because I was lurking and I read so much nonsense from men about how trans women are women.

I just thought, you're lawyers, you're educated people. You work with words for a living. You know full well that "a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman" would never be a workable definition in any contract or piece of legislation. How can you continue to spout this nonsense?

So I registered a new account to debate on trans issues. I was hoping to change a few people's minds, but was also open to being persuaded by the other side of the argument.

The worst thing is that the people I have been arguing against are people I broadly agree with on other political issues. I've encountered ugly misogyny on RoF before, but not from that particular demographic. It's really opened my eyes to how much everyday misogyny is lurking just below the surface on the political left. It's depressing.

Anyway, now I am banned - for reasons unrelated to trans issues - and I think I will at the very least be taking a break.

Brava! After YEARS of this, I think for me, it's the dishonesty more than even the gross misogyny that I hate. Maybe because it's even less well concealed.
