Falon Fox interviewed on Today show

Why did this person get air time with no confrontation of the injuries they gave an opponent?
From Wikipedia During Fox's fight against Tamikka Brents on September 13, 2014, Brents suffered a concussion, an orbital bone fracture, and seven staples to the head in the 1st round. After her loss, Brents took to social media to convey her thoughts on the experience of fighting Fox: "I've fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night. I can't answer whether it's because she was born a man or not because I'm not a doctor. I can only say, I've never felt so overpowered ever in my life and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right," she stated. "Her grip was different, I could usually move around in the clinch against other females but couldn't move at all in Fox's clinch ..."

Not to mention Fox saying the decision would cause "real harm" to transpeople.

As opposed to the non-real harm caused to the woman with the fractured skull?

KittenKong · 20/06/2022 17:44

I listened walking to work and made some poor woman jump when I barked ‘testicles and a girlfriend!’ The BBC had no right to get this person on - although hopefully those who haven’t come across them will look them is and see their gloating social media posted about beating women up in the ring and how they injured a woman’s so badly in the ring that they couldn’t compete any more.

Oh well…

The Mail is carrying a report stating that Justin Webb did not know Fallon Fox's background. I had assumed he did:

He's said on Twitter he didn't know who fox was and neither did the producers. Which rather begs the question of whose idea it was to invite Fox on.

Or maybe it was just a good play. Get them in and everyone can see who we are dealing with.

Except that if you'd listened to the interview, you would be none the wiser as to the sort of person Fox is

KittenKong · 22/06/2022 07:22

Hoping that people would look them up.

user75 · 22/06/2022 07:25

this is what I was worried about, why can't they research their guests?

OP posts:

I liked his comment: 'not from the 'everyone calm down' perspective that fails to note who is violent and who is not'. Politicians might realise the 'calm down dear' line isn't going to wash much longer.

Question is, what's he going to do about it? Unless as pps said it was a sly move, he did know and it was a sneaky way of raising awareness of FF.

napody · 22/06/2022 08:20

'Testicles and a girlfriend' made me lol. Do you think passers by thought someone was asking you 'what shall I bring round tonight?' 😂

KittenKong · 22/06/2022 09:05

it really could be the answer to many questions…

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/06/2022 09:24

I can believe JustinW didn't know FF's background - because I'm sure, based on his previous interviews on related issues, he would have strongly challenged Fox about it. I'm pleased he tweeted what he did and hope he's kicking arses behind the scenes.

Someone sure as hell did know though, which is seriously worrying.

I hope feedback cover this (they will if enough of us contact them Smile )

I wonder if the relatively junior bookers knew exactly whom they were booking and that there was a reason that there weren't any adequate research notes.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/06/2022 09:39

My thoughts exactly @EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

BoredofthisCrap7 · 22/06/2022 10:30

This ideology will eat itself from the inside.
I say get MORE of these people on TV and interviews. It's all fantastic exposure - when the general public see this for what it is, the whole thing crumbles under the weight of its own stupidity.

Comments on the Daily Mail article are supportive BUT annoyed that the DM have said "terfs are opposed to trans rights".

Nope.

I hope people do a little more researching off their own backs and don't just assume "terfs" hate all trans people, because that's the party line from the TRAs and it's just not true.

BoredofthisCrap7 · 22/06/2022 10:32

"Miss Fox has since claimed to enjoy beating up women who oppose transgender rights, known derogatively as 'Terfs'."

sorry - meant to quote that part in my above post.

JoodyBlue · 22/06/2022 10:42

The more of this reporting I read the more convinced I become that Kellie Jay's approach of refusing to use pronouns is the right one. I am now so very over seeing the pronouns "she/her" applied to men who beat up, assault, insult, and abuse women. It adds gaslighting to the violence and it sticks in my craw. So much for not offending people. It means that when people read a piece it is not immediately obvious that men are beating up women. It isn't proper reporting.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 22/06/2022 11:01

Whatever the individual failings are, the BBC still stands for something globally. It has a reputation.

I don't know where we're supposed to be socially if we can not depend upon mainstream media the BBC to present relevant information. Distrust of media is a prerequisite for totalitarianism which is then followed by completely controlled media.

Forgive these young people and the older adults intimidated by them, they either know not what they do or are indifferent to the consequences because they consider themselves immune to them.

Friday at 4.30, repeated Sunday at 8pm and on BBC Sounds whenever you want (she intoned, trying to use the compulsory reference to Sounds).

It looks like the next broadcast is 8th July as it is not on every week:

Justin Webb has tweeted he didn't know.

He should have known. It's a failure of BBC diligence that he didn't. But there we are.

On the plus side, this item was the pick for the 'best of today' podcast. Lots of sunshine, lots of exposure.

I've written to R4 feedback and the BBC saying I'm glad it was covered, bu tthat I'm shocked by the choice of interviewee.

I’m amazed that a BBC journalist would not do the most basic research on the person they’re going to interview. Two minutes’ googling would tell you all you need to know about Fallon Fox.

KittenKong · 22/06/2022 22:17

‘So we need someone to speak for the trans side’

‘why not call Fallon fox?’

‘who’s that then?’
