So...let me get this right...according to FINA transwomen can't swim with the women because they are not actually women!

And they are using actual verifiable science to prove this point!

The only thing I can say to to that:

BLOODY BRILLIANT🏊

Can't see how they can stop them . They are now women . That's the whole point isn't it ? By not letting them compete in womens events that's like saying they are not real women ? God what a crazy world we live in .

They aren't real women. Lia still has absolutely everything men have. He just has long hair

Selkiesarereal · 19/06/2022 22:06

Fantastic news, feels like the tide is finally beginning to turn!

A certain mum of a certain cyclist is not very happy.

Has that mum forgotten that she gave birth to a male child. She did not have a girl baby.

Ha ha, yes.

The Sport patriarchy is alive and kicking.... It'll be interesting to see how the IOC responds.

Telling males to fuck off out of female sport is exactly the opposite of the patriarchy.

How bizarre!!! the IOC created this issue by pushing the decision down to the sports organisations to start with. Because they wouldn’t follow the science and allowed this to become too politically based.

The IOC should not react negatively at all. Because it ducked the decision in the first place.

Does she think the IOC will insist on FINA changing the ruling?

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 19/06/2022 22:11

Fantastic news. Well done FINA. Women's sport is for women.

FixItUpChappie · 19/06/2022 22:17

Thank you FINA for having the courage to stand up for women in sport!

KangarooKenny · 19/06/2022 18:03

Good. Hopefully they will do this with toilets and changing rooms too.

Perhaps the tide of twaw bollocks ( and it is bollocks when 98% of these 'women' still have them) is beginning to turn.

grafittiartist · 19/06/2022 22:19

Just a question- this ruling only covers elite events.
What do we think the impact will be on other levels of swimming?
Why can they not cover all levels with this?

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2022 22:20

Great news

Tomnooktoldmeto · 19/06/2022 22:33

Finally it’s feels like the tide has turned, hopefully the other bodies will follow suit soon

""Can't see how they can stop them . They are now women . That's the whole point isn't it ? By not letting them compete in womens events that's like saying they are not real women ? God what a crazy world we live in .""

I'm not sure if this was a sarcastic post or not, it's sometimes difficult to tell over t'internet.
If you ARE being serious, how are they "now women"? What made them women? The name change? The swimsuit? The long hair?
The truth is (as you know) they are not women, not now, never have been, never will be.
Because a woman is an adult human female, and female is a BIOLOGICAL descriptor and a factual objectifiable measureable thing. It means XX chromosomes.
Men are not women, no matter the inner feelings.
I agree with you on one point however. It IS a crazy world we live in. It's crazy we have gotten to the point where this had to be legislated. It should have been stopped in it's tracks on day one.
Today I feel like a little common sense has returned to the world. Hopefully it will have a snowball effect in every other area of life.
Today, we verified that trans women are NOT women.
(as we all knew).

NotBadConsidering · 19/06/2022 22:37

This is fantastic news. Remember that USA Powerlifting did the same, and there were the usual TRA toddler tantrums before it faded to nothing. Other sporting organisations need to take note, it’s a relatively small number of people stamping their feet on Twitter. If only the UCI would take note. I look forward to the day they do, to see “sporting patriarchy in action” 🤣🤣

Innocenta · 19/06/2022 22:39

puffyisgood · 19/06/2022 17:25

such a no-brainer for swimming. if you look at the heights, the hand and foot sizes etc of almost any competitive swimmer, of either sex, it's abundantly clear that physical size confers a huge advantage.

it might be possible to halfway plausibly argue that inclusion should win the day in a sport where short, physically slight, competitors are common. not not here.

I follow a sport where this is true (athletes are often small and slight), and there are still absolutely vast sex differences between male and female athletes.

DeaconBoo · 19/06/2022 22:39

I'm slightly amazed!

I think there will be a trickle down effect. If the top of the sport has said no then grassroots will have more confidence they are backed up.

Belovedfool · 19/06/2022 22:42

I do hope they follow through with the Open category. Complete with special changing facilities etc, because females cannot be expected to change in front of recognised males who will be swimming in the open category. That would be terribly discriminatory, wouldn't it, forcing females to share with males?

They are not women though. They are fully formed blokes with cocks and knackers but with a splash of lipstick and long hair. This is fantastic news - hopefully this will be the start of other sports calling out the naked emperors too.

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2022 22:48

They are now women

Well no. You can't change sex.

TheBiologyStupid · 19/06/2022 22:55

Hopefully other sports will be paying attention - as Sharron Davies said on BBC Radio 5 live when the news broke, women cyclists are going to be feeling very aggrieved that the UCI didn't have the courage to make a similar decision when it changed its rules the other day.

maeveiscurious · 19/06/2022 22:59

Actually I think these sports organisations are missing a trick, a trans category would be welcomed and fair for all the biological and trans sports people. It would bring more people into sport

OvaHere · 19/06/2022 23:07

maeveiscurious · 19/06/2022 22:59

It would only be a trans category in name though. In reality it would be a transwoman/ male NB and any other flavour of male who doesn't identify as such category.

Whatever sports try to do they still have biology to grapple with.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 19/06/2022 23:09

Innocenta · 19/06/2022 22:39

I follow a sport where this is true (athletes are often small and slight), and there are still absolutely vast sex differences between male and female athletes.

The differences between males and females go way beyond strength , speed and physical size- things like heart rate, lung capacity, body fat ratios, pelvic alignment, but also the non physical difference such as the availability of coaching, cultural attitudes to sport and decisions that females have to make when it comes to having children mean that you can't take a small, slight man and say he is the same as a tall, strong woman when it comes to sport.

mids2019 · 19/06/2022 23:11

@maeveiscurious

I think on an inclusivity b ask a you are correct however......

the problem is going to be having open or trans categories t elite global events e.g. Olympics. Will the Olympics be one and a half times longer dues to having to have an open category alongside women and men? Will open athletes be granted medals with the same inherent worth as their male and female counterparts?

if as is more realistic the open category is combined with the men will broadcasters call men's sport non-female sport? Will we hear BBC broadcasters cheerfully announce 'the women have brought home 5 golds and the 'others' 3?

I think inequality this ruling paves the way for true single sex.sport but possibly there needs to be a debate how trans swimmers like Lia compete with dignity in men's races by offering alternate changing rooms.
