Great news re rugby too

I wouldn’t be surprised if they all follow

Well done to everyone on mn who has pushed for this for years, on here and elsewhere

WarriorN · 21/06/2022 12:10

Re fallon fox on radio 4 today: Justin Webb apologies and agrees they need to be more careful about who they invite on.

Sharron Davis:

Thank you I had FF played to me on several bbc interviews yesterday it’s really not right abusers are given a platform

Cailleach1 · 21/06/2022 12:22

Absolutely! Sharron Davies was a wonderful example of bravery. A woman who will stand up for right and truth. I hope she gets those medals that were cheated away. I imagine that is why she will call out cheating where she sees it. SD knows that women deserve fair sport.

And, can I say I am so happy that Justin Webb will not dissemble.

Clymene · 21/06/2022 12:38

Interview with Sharron in the Times today: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/3f3faec8-f0b2-11ec-b0c8-27c99cdfb733?shareToken=13b4e5c88643f76446a5ec5d0db723dd

It struck me that for her, this isn't just about sport and fairness, she and those East German athletes know exactly what excess testosterone does to female bodies.

JanisMoplin · 21/06/2022 12:58

Nice interview. Good for her for saying what used to be unsayable until very recently.

Helleofabore · 21/06/2022 13:30

That is great news luna!!!

considering Australian rugby didn’t follow WR this is BIG!

Helleofabore · 21/06/2022 13:38

Oh. All they said is they will follow the guidelines for international games and consider their options domestically.

And rolled out Union player Layt for comment.

"We are human beings, we have feelings, and we feel like we are being singled out," Layt told AFP.

Yeah, no shit Sherlock. Layt played as male in NSW state level Union in the women’s league and didn’t tell them they were male. Told the coach who allowed them to continue without alerting team members or opposition teams.

Then Layt won Sportswoman of the Year and other accolades and I don’t believe they had told those voting that this player was a male!

All at a time when women in Union was in its infancy and frankly even now the coaching and playing opportunities aren’t equal for girls and boys.

I don’t honestly know why Australian media include this person as a spokesperson. There attitude is one of arrogance and a history of dishonesty.

Yougov chat is asking for opinions on this decision

Yes. Nic Williams of Fair Play for Women has been relentless in her pursuit of fairness in sports. Including fostering relationships with Sharron and many others.

And as other posters are noting, it is the reaction of (some) transwomen to this news which provides all the justification for the news in the first place.

S'not fair, omg now trans people will drown, and I fucking love hitting women, me, being an example.

PermanentTemporary · 21/06/2022 17:31

Fucking hell, genuinely furious at Charlie Martin, everybody's favourite smiley blonde posh sportswoman, who competes in a sport without sex categories sounding off about this. I wish all the middle class white jocks who've grown their hair would FUCK OFF on this. Glad to see some transwomen replying to say that FINA made a perfectly reasonable decision.

Dreikanter · 21/06/2022 17:56

There’s a lot of flailing around on Twitter from the TRAs and shouts of discrimination and transphobia. Even better, there’s a fuck of a lot of pushback from a wide range of people pointing out that nobody is banning transwomen from competing, they just have to compete in the appropriate (male) sex category.

Dreikanter · 21/06/2022 18:03

Ex Apprentice candidate Amy Anzel earlier doing the trans rights are human rights thing on Twitter might be surprised with the results of her poll.

Nah. You just dismiss the results of your own poll and call everyone transphobes.

LOL! She won't like the results of the YouGov chat poll that 334bu mentioned above, then.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 22/06/2022 15:30

Ladies, behold! RMW has arrived with opinions.
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jun/22/trans-swimming-ban-sports-lawyers

I agree with RMW that is will no doubt end in court and I personally welcome it. If the sports federations have to defend excluding males from female sport then they’ll have evidence on their side. There is literally no evidence that says it’s fair to women and girls for their sports to be made mixed sex.

samsalmon · 22/06/2022 15:41

Gosh, it’s a bit bold of RMW to claim ‘exclusion’, when it is in fact reassignment to the correct sex class. No one is being excluded.

TheBiologyStupid · 22/06/2022 15:44

Thanks, Cats. I don't think RMW gets sport: "In football, for example, being smaller and nimbler might balance out advantages of absolute speed or strength" - yeah, right up until she encounters a 6'3" defender who feels like a girl...
No comments allowed under her piece in The Guardian surprise, surprise.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/06/2022 15:47

Yet the new policy rules that women transwomen cannot participate in the female category if they have undergone any aspect of male puberty

Women do not go through male puberty. Men go through male puberty.

This is what you get when activists change the meaning of words to suit their personal ideological preferences

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/06/2022 15:47

Oh for an edit button - that 1st sentence was a quote.

Dreikanter · 22/06/2022 15:54

Hopefully FINA has considered future legal challenges:

The Legal and Human Rights Group was comprised of legal experts in sex discrimination, human rights, and international sports law, including the jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Meanwhile, RMW being a tad hyperbolic in the opening sentence:

A new policy barring most trans women from elite swimming has sent shockwaves through sport this week.

Not banned from elite swimming though - only from elite swimming in the female category.

There’s still a male category available, plus the potential of competing in the proposed new open category (which no doubt they will shun, because reasons).

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/06/2022 16:07

Thinking about legal challenges.
I supposed these are based on the belief that men can magically become women? And will be based on countless examples of biological men birthing babies over the centuries, of girls undergoing male puberty, not to mention the men growing cervices following Lammy's instructions?

We know this is an immensely powerful and well funded men's movement that's been able to avoid democratic scrutiny in numerous countries so I have no doubt that we'll see some of their millions thrown at Fina in an attempt to force them into compliance.
