Saw this on Reddit and was surprised by the very sensible way it was handled by the pool, police and comments on Reddit. No hint of entitlement and just sensible safeguarding.

This sounds plausible because police handling of the incident is in line with the law. Ie person exposes themselves, police called, questions person and can't ascertain if it was intentional. It can be difficult to prove intention which is what you need to charge someone with indecent exposure. So instead they refer to breach of the peace which is more of a catch all offence ie someone has behaved badly but you can't pin a specific crime on them. They don't even charge him with that in the end, again because there's a problem with intentionality, but now they've warned him if he does it again the intention is clearer so they'd be able to charge.

Hopefully by this time they'll have bought a shorts based tankini and found a different pool to go to and all will be well.

@NellWilsonsWhiteHair

I find it plausible the entire story is fabricated just to stoke division.

The OP was a question asked on a legal board in Reddit. That's a really big reach, to suggest someone posted it there and that I lifted it and copied to MN, just to stoke division. Rather reminiscent of how TRAs defended the Wi Spa incident. They said it never even happened...until the police charged him.

And you say the NB person in the swimsuit was maliciously reported, whilst you also acknowledge they may or may not have been fully covered.

If you agree they may not have been fully covered, how is the report of indecency malicious?

No, I'm saying all of these possibilities currently seem believable to me, as a range of feasible options.

I'm not accusing you of reposting here to stoke division, I am saying that I think that's potentially true of the poster on Reddit. A quick glance at twitter will demonstrate that some people online do make this sort of shit up. I am cautious about when to become outraged and when to be more circumspect until further evidence emerges, is all.

Yeah the way the original post is written completely has me siding with the young man in question. Until a mere moment is spent on what is the crux of the issue. Ahh of course many women's costumes won't fit a cock and balls.

Increasingly many girls and women have had enough of skimpy costumes too are wearing boyleg suits or shorts and tankini /bikinis /rash vests. There's so much more choice than there used to be.

So it's his word against the woman's. A person claiming gender dysphoria would surely be hyper aware of what his genitals were like in clothes? Just as women with body hang ups are hyper aware of what their bodies look like? In fact it's quite common for people with body issues to avoid swimming altogether.

And a woman changing at the pool with kids. One of the most stressful experiences. Is she likely to complain for no reason? Do women generally have a good experience if they report sex offences? Statistics say no.

We have public decency LAWS for a reason, and its not because women are busy flashing their vag or masturbating in public. Its because men do.

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 19/06/2022 19:24

This is the sort of costume this enby could have worn. Very deliberately designed for women and covers up the chest while also providing cover of the entire genital area.

Result the person feels good in a women's costume and no one has to see anything they shouldn't need to.

Available at decathlon FYI.

I've had swimming costumes from here recommended. (Not super-cheap, but supporting a "queer owned" business who pays staff proper wages.)

They have a long torso version and the front is lined with compression fabric. Probably safest for a male body to choose one with black fabric at the crotch, but that still gives interesting options.
"-Long torso version for a better fit on tall/long bods (leg length and shoulder strap length remain the same)
-Compressive fabric smooths & supports
-Fully lined front for great coverage"

Urg. People can wear what they want. You're a nasty person and can't see it. I'm through with mumsnet allowing this shit. This isn't a sensible debate about gender, this is hate pure and simple. I won't be on mumsnet again and will be switching off notifications. Bye.

Love a good flounce!!

And how about that… you support a male with an erection wearing inadequate clothing to cover being visible to children.

And somehow people saying this is never appropriate behavior are the ‘bad’ ones….

A good flounce - THAT'S what he needed sown round his cossie to stop those poor kids getting an eyeful!

The beefcake line initially looked good but the site photographs show that the lighter colours are ridiculously sheer.

That Decathlon kit looks good (I like aerial activities and spend time upside down so I'm always on the lookout for something that extends above the waist when I'm upside down) so thank you for the signpost.

I don't think people can just wear what they want. I think people can wear what they want if their privates are covered. In this case, they weren't. The men's/ women's costume thing is a red herring. This was a case of indecent exposure whether it was intentional or not.

Hoping4second · 20/06/2022 13:44

From the management's and the police's reaction, it's clear the guy's "euphoria" was obvious and reported, likely more than once.

Whether he did it on purpose or managed to deceive himself that it was invisible to the naked eye is irrelevant imho.

Penis flounces are a whole new gap in the swimwear market.

Sort of like those toilet roll holder dolls with frilly dresses, I'm thinking?

So normally it’s all “I don’t care what men wear as long as they’re not trying to be women, men can wear womens clothes if they want”.

until they do that, do nothing to act inappropriately and then get slung out of the swimming pool. There are some incredibly tight speedos out there which leave nothing to the imagination but it would have been fine if he had been wearing those because they’re intended for men. Even if it is nothing more than a tiny sliver of fabric across the hips

I'm in the "i don't care, wear what you want, clothes are clothes" camp.

..but as plenty of people have posted, men's swimwear and women's swimwear is cut differently, and a woman's one-piece would not hold a dick and balls appropriately or securely.

I wear men's swimming trunks and a vest to swim in - the trunks that are cut like cycling shorts, not baggy shorts - and so I'm no stranger to swimming while cross-dressing. But as a woman I am neither aroused by this, nor in a position to display my arousal if this were to be the case. It's reasonable for others not to want to see some man's boner. I think the lifeguards did the right thing.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/06/2022 15:19

I’m always amazed at how dressing like a woman in clothes designated for women and that many women bitterly complain about makes one a woman.
