Scotland - male wears female swimsuit

Saw this on Reddit and was surprised by the very sensible way it was handled by the pool, police and comments on Reddit. No hint of entitlement and just sensible safeguarding.

I find it intriguing that the reddit OP insists that their relative has no intention of going back to that pool, but does not mention whether their relative intends to purchase swimwear that both covers their chest and contains their genitals. It would be my top priority, were I in the Relative's position. What biological male person wouldn't be shocked and horrified to hear that their costume had revealed their genitals?

This is particularly at odds with the OP's focus on whether The Relative can force the pool to accept their presence again.

Quote
Have any equalities law been broken, either by the council employees or the police officers? If so, is there a legal remedy open to them?

Can the police and the council effectively informally ban my relative from a taxpayer funded leisure centre because the way they prefer to dress goes against social norms?

I expect the swimmers who complained about The Relative's visible genitalia were also taxpayers; they're just as entitled to access what their taxes pay for without seeing male genitalia falling out of an inappropriately-sized swimsuit as The Relative is entitled to attend sessions in ill-fitting swimwear. Perhaps more so.

VestofAbsurdity · 19/06/2022 12:47

The non-binary male chose to wear a women's swimsuit when in the pool because they want to feel more comfortable than going bare chested. Would that fly if a non-binary female decided to wear men's swimming trunks and swim bare chested because that made them feel more comfortable? Like hell it would.

I'm not sure about the veracity of this story, however, I know who I would believe regarding it and it isn't the non-binary male.

Hallyup89 · 19/06/2022 12:50

Perhaps the woman who complained should have had more respect, rather than deliberately staring at the man's crotch.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with what he did.

What HE did?. Remember, misgendering is literal violence you transphobe.

That’s exactly what Laurie Penny said about the man in the Wi Spa, and that fella turned out to be a sexual predator.

What 'man?' What 'he?' You aren't referring to the reddit OP's cousin are you? Because if you are you should educate yourself and then go apologise for misgendering them so foully. God, I can't believe people like you, just wishing these poor brave AMAB NBs out of existence like that. They is a they, you bigot.

Hallelujah, the victim blaming Wi-Spa comment has arrived - fabulous.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 19/06/2022 13:01

I checked the reddit thread. Not content with assuming that The Relative is totally and completely innocent of any ill intention, the OP also attributes bad faith to the mother who complained.

In the OP's eyes, it does not seem to be conceivable that The Relative could have been truly wearing an inappropriate costume that revealed more than the wearer intended.

Look, it doesn't matter if you don't mean to stand on someone's foot- it still hurts when you do, and the person you are standing on is still entitled to ask you to get off his or her foot. And if you don't get off that foot when asked, and continue to stand on it while making excuses, then onlookers (and the person being stood on) will begin to suspect that it wasn't an accident in the first place. So with many, many other types of social situation.

Absolutely love how reddit OP thinks that he or she is psychic and knows exactly what the complainant was thinking.

Just take your Relative down to buy new swimwear that fits, for hygiene's sake!

quote

Yes I think you’re right, the real issue is the accusation of inappropriate sexual behaviour. For what it’s worth I know beyond doubt that this isn’t my relative’s motivation in wanting to dress as a female. They were absolutely horrified at the implication they were involving this woman’s children in something sexual. I am 100% convinced that this baseless and spiteful complaint was made by someone who can’t handle the idea of a “man” wearing “female” clothing.
I guess rather than open a massive can of gender based worms and actually investigate the complaint, the police have chosen to put the frightners on my relative in the hope that they just stay away from the pool in the future.

Dear God.

So a woman reporting a male wearing a swimming costume that did not hide a semi- erect penis with her children being there is in the wrong.

And you, personally, support the male’s right to wear a swimsuit that does not hide a semi-erect penis …

And are proudly proclaiming to do so?

PritiPatelsMaker · 19/06/2022 13:05

I tried on some swimming costumes recently. I had problems getting them to cover my genitals. You would have had serious problems trying to get a cock and balls in there and remain discreet.

I want you to think very carefully here. The woman complained that her children could see.

One of the universal things about young children is that they are not that tall. That means that when they are walking about, men's crotches are at a child's eye height. And so are the crotches of non-binary AMABs like this person's. Who you just misgendered.

So, are you really telling me, that it's children's job to avoid seeing testicles and penis spilling out of a too small swimsuit, when those genitals are in their eyeline, but NOT an adult person's job to keep their penis and testicles covered?

quote

The officer says that a woman has complained that her young children could see their gentials through the suit, and that she had alleged my relative was aroused while walking around the changing area.

CourtneeLuv · 19/06/2022 13:09

Im sure if you want to start out 'exploring your identity as a woman' there are more appropriate places to do so than a swimming pool.

Why pick a swimming pool? So you can show your bits off, imo.

Sounds like a pervert to me. Why not pick a library, or supermarket?

Why does it always have to centre around changing rooms and skin tight clothing? 🤔

OT: other matters aside, I much prefer tankinis with shorts when swimming or on the water.

catandcoffee · 19/06/2022 13:10

I am just confused how a non binery person wants to wear a swimming costume, designed for biological females. 🙄

picklemewalnuts · 19/06/2022 13:16

I'm confused why someone concerned about their body would go swimming. The vast majority of us dread wearing swimwear in public and have to psych ourselves up to it.

I have terrible body image problems, I'm a size 10 trapped in a size 22 body. I decided to go to the pool in a string bikini to help me feel better about myself.

Said no woman ever.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 19/06/2022 13:16

A scrotum would be quite visible in a female swimsuit, I don't think it would cover it all, it would bulge out the sides. If young children were to see that at a public swimming pool I can see how the parents would be upset and worried too. Perhaps that was more the issue rather than the choice of attire.

FOJN · 19/06/2022 13:20

Don't you dare make it the responsibility of women and children to ignore exhibitionist or otherwise inappropriate behaviour of men.

If you're a man who wants to wear a swimsuit then you better make sure you are covered and if you find it arousing then you should not wear it in public at all. I would imagine any man buying a swimsuit would try it on in front of a mirror at home (many, many times probably) so would be fully aware of what was on display.

I do not accept that it is a matter of good manners for women and children to ignore a man in a swimsuit with an erection.

I neither enjoy showing the world my pubic hair nor doing anything to 'groom' my pubic hair, so all my swimwear is shorts. I have a one piece with shorts style legs for local pools. I have some small mens loose shorts style trunks that I wear with crop tops for if I'm on a beach or messing around with water in the garden. And if I want to look 'beach stylish' I have bikinis with high waisted shorts.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/06/2022 13:26

How on earth did a woman's swimsuit fit over his genitals?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/06/2022 13:26

How on earth did a woman's swimsuit fit over his genitals?

Clearly it didn't!

Why would someone who felt uncomfortable about their body go somewhere it would be on full display wearing something that would draw attention to their body? It's almost as if they wanted someone to notice them 🤔

Luxa · 19/06/2022 13:33

Women don't have penises so this outfit wasn't suitable for this person.

TwentyOneTwentyTwo · 19/06/2022 13:34

Wants to cover up chest, ends up exposing boner instead. Like when you take up the flooring to tile the roof.

puffyisgood · 19/06/2022 13:40

doesn't seem much of a deal to me in a mixed session and with a decently well fitting garment.

Snugglepumpkin · 19/06/2022 13:44

What seems unbelievable is that the sports centre staff & the police actually took action to safeguard children for once.

If they did, then it's nice to know there are still a few decent police officers around who have better things to do than chase after people who put up stickers.
