Anyone going to College Green this afternoon for the rally?
I am hoping to if I am feeling better - crappy cold, and hope the weather holds.

All the above said, apparently the Queen is now a seller of walking sticks so maybe we're to embrace women as purveyors of objects.

Question. Would it be a conflict of interest for HRH to sign a Royal Warrant of Approval for her own walking sticks?

So it would be a bit like

a prince, a princess and a walking stick sales women walk into a bar….

yeah?

PomegranateOfPersephone · 22/06/2022 18:22

Sometimes I get so confused about which thread I have just clicked on…

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/06/2022 18:37

It has taken me ages to work out which woman was meant with the appellation of "t-shirt saleswoman".

I think your disses need to be less oblique next time, dear.

For some reason, Posie selling her merchandise really sticks in these people's craw.

I can't quite work it out. It's all to endorse her message. It's not like she's just a T-shirt shop. Merchandise is fairly mainstream for this sort of thing.

I wonder if it's because it's all quite cute, innovative, and occasionally extremely glittery.

And they can't wear it.

Floisme · 22/06/2022 19:18

The 'T shirt flogger' thing always reminds me of that old upper class sneer about someone being 'trade'.

At least the Queen is trading in something artisinal with locally sourced wood from her own estate.

If only KJK owned an estate that grew hemp that could be turned into sackcloth tops, eh. She and HRH might swap branding and selling tips.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/06/2022 19:47

I've just watched most of this meeting. The men screeching in the background will sound utterly deranged to most people, whatever trolls think.

There are some particular low moments where they shout over the disabled Jenny Swayne, treated badly by the police for her women's rights stickering, who has mental health issues which make it difficult to concentrate.

And when a man is practically having a meltdown when a 12 year old girl is speaking. She handles it with total class.

Ides · 22/06/2022 19:50

I think it might be because the police, being simple souls, have been trained to believe that women aren't delicate, fragile damsels in distress, and can handle being opposed in their views. GC activists need to be much more strident and forceful in asserting their view that natal women are inherently weak and easily dominated by anyone who has - or indeed once had - a dick and balls. I hope that helps! :)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/06/2022 19:51

And I'm not deliberately misgendering, they just sounded like average angry men to me, I have no idea nor care what gender identity they have.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 22/06/2022 19:55

it's like fucking whack a mole

one loon after another

Waitwhat23 · 22/06/2022 19:57

I genuinely don't think I've ever seen a post by Ides which doesn't use the phrase 'dick and balls' (or variant thereof).

Ides' overwhelming obsession with dick and balls is quite amusing given the almost constant accusations that those with GC views are 'obsessed by genitalia'.

Go on Ides, try a post without using the phrase dick and balls, just for once!

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 22/06/2022 20:04

it's like someone's blown the 'monomaniac' conch

it must be nice for KJK living rent free in these people's heads

It’s like them idiots that have to draw a cock on everything they see, but with words.

I've been surfing Twitter this afternoon (work avoidance) and came across so many women, not blue ticks - small accounts, talking about how they never used to think feminism was for them, but about how KJK had reached them by using plain language, how she didn't look down on them for being housewives or judge them for not knowing all the correct language, how she'd given them confidence. It was chastening but also really uplifting. And then I came to Ruth Serwotka, talking about how she'd been instrumental (her words as I remember) in having KJK dis-invited from WPUK meetings. Not a shred of self-doubt. And my heart. Just. Sank.

Kellie Jay Keen is massively impressive in my eyes.
I have watched a lot of her videos and love her straight talking.
I think she appeals to a wide range of people because of her persona, clarity and unwillingness to compromise.
There was a time I used the word transwomen and pronouns according.
KJK described this as the thin end of the wedge, and I think she is right.
I was inspired to talk more openly with friends about these issues after Standing for Women in Bristol, and it's been really interesting and positive.
I am not quite ready to "be the billboard", but maybe that's next.

I often think about that Gottman/community coolers piece. A lot of women are belatedly becoming aware of the full implications of what has been going on for years and how much we've been misled by mainstream media coverage. Serwotka might do well to reflect on the feasibility of engaging with a community when you're completely outside it. You have to have 'coolers' who are well-respected/known within that community.

Goffman observed that all “marks” eventually come to understand that they have been defrauded. But strangely, they almost never complain or report the crime to the authorities. Why? Because, Goffman argues, admitting that you have been conned is so deeply shameful that “marks” experience it as a kind of social death – the painful end of one of the many social roles we all play.

Within those groups, we can pinpoint influential members who may be turning their backs on Covid denialism, and encourage them in their journey. We can message them offering support, particularly if our reference groups overlap – whether that means sharing the same home town, or practising the same faith. The more shared social space, the better. We might offer to back them up if they get trolled for expressing misgivings about Covid denialism. Or we could let them know that we would admire them for telling the truth.

Those people may not have a television audience of millions, but they nonetheless have the potential to act as “coolers” for those in their reference groups – both online and off. The higher their status within the groups, the more influence they will have in reconciling their fellow travellers to the reality of the pandemic, perhaps enabling them to rejoin society, or at least preventing them from endangering the rest of us.

What’s the collective noun for Black Pampers?

my suggestions:
a multipack
a binful
a hoorah (posh white arseholes)
a breakout
an eruption
a disappointment
a clandestincel

A dampness?

OP I like KJK's plain speaking too and that's a big part of the appeal. It's a shame other women are so sniffy of her, she's doing more than most, she's actually organising some really effective activism, so what if she sells merch to help fund this activism? I think her background is in sales.

You need antagonisers like KJK, she also seems to really appeal to GC men too and we need male voices too.

MaudeYoung · 22/06/2022 21:52

Perhaps the issue for those women steeped in socialism and other left wing ideologies is that KJK has carved out her own, distinct space away from all the male dominated politics. KJK is determined to do whatever it takes to speak her message and doesn't need to be led by any ideology to any political space.

Political ideologies of the extremes of the left or the right do nothing for women. It seems KJK knows this and has shot through the now huge middle space and taken loads of women with her who subscribe to no political ideology or not to those extremes.

Yes, we are aware the police don't take intimate partner violence and male violence towards women seriously. I am reminded of how a woman got fined for wasting police time, for reporting the stalker who would murder her a few months later.

Did you mean to remind us of how the police don't prioritise violence against women?

I've bought WPUK merchandise before, because i really value the attention they're bringing to the matter of incarcerated women.

Curiously enough, when I was handing my debit card over, Ruth Serwotka did not pop up to ask me if I'd ever spent money with Posie Parker. Nor did she come over to confirm if I had a university degree first (I don't), or whether I was otherwise sufficiently academic.

Odd that.
