Stephanie Davies-Arai (Transgender Trend) is given British Empire Medal in Queen's Birthday Honours

"On Wednesday, Ms Davies-Arai said: “I’m really honoured and thrilled to be recognised for my work. It is a huge honour and I’m quite knocked out by it and very grateful to everyone who nominated me.

“I hope it indicates a change in opinion about the treatment of children with gender dysphoria and is a recognition of my work, which has been wrongly called transphobic or bigoted.

“What I saw was a one-size-fits-all approach to dealing with these children, which risks sending them towards a medical pathway.

“One of my concerns was the alternative wasn’t talked about. Everyone should be open to debate; it’s healthy. Silencing debate by calling evidence-based approaches ‘bigoted or transphobic’ is very dangerous.”"

I have to say I am staggered. In a Smile but Shock way. I wonder who put her forward, does anyone know? And why the Honours Committee went for it? After all, this is the same committee that gave Maria Miller a Damehood (and not the pantomime sort, sadly).

Also pleased as punch to see Northern Ireland abortion campaigner Sarah Ewart honoured (which will piss off Dame Arlene no end).

Maybe that's it - the committee went for actual balance, to reflect a diversity of opinion and campaigning interests in the democratic UK?

Anyway, good for Stephanie.

💐and 🍾for Stephanie.

Really pleased to read this - thank you for the link. It balances out the disturbing news of the person newly appointed to the CPS.

Very happy for Stephanie. I've had the honour of spending a couple of hours in her company listening to her talk and she is very wise, knowledgable and compassionate.
