Despite the hatred and death threats, despite giving so much of it away and being sidelined by Hollywood and all the insults, according to the Times annual Rich List JKR's wealth increased by £30 million last year. Well done, Jo.

Good for her.
Maybe she'll take us all out to lunch? (hopeful)

MiniatureHotdog · 20/05/2022 14:59

Thoroughly well deserved. She'll out it to good use too 😊👏

Yes but I think there are more children than we realise who don't agree with the TRA ideology but are too scared to be vocal about it because they know they'll be horrendously bullied by both children and adults if they voice their respectful beliefs.

Children have JKR as a hero - and they love her books - when adults says she's 'problematic' or has 'problematic views' and can't back it up with convincing evidence then they don't take it well in my experience. In fact there's a lot in her books which mirrors this exact situation.

When Dolores Umbridge was in charge of Hogwarts the majority went along with her crazy regime because she had power and they were scared. As soon as a few stood up to challenge her, most people admitted they'd agreed with Harry and Harry had a lot less compelling evidence that Voldemort was back than we have that biology is real and there's a sex binary, which matters, in humans.

Completely agree theemperorhasnoclothes The majority of children and adults don't agree with the ideology but the exercise in bullying and intimidation to force these issues on people has been very effective.
We know it can't be sustained as, no matter how much gaslighting goes on, lies always unravel eventually. And yes to Dolores Umbridge . There's a lot of them about Grin

Well done Jo. Well deserved!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 20/05/2022 15:06

Ahh well done to JK! Good for her! She's fantastic for continually speaking up for womens rights, despite all the death threats and shit behaviour towards her.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2022 15:15

She can't give it away quickly enough Grin

axolotlfloof · 20/05/2022 15:43

Well done Ms Rowling.
That inspired me to go and buy another book (Silkworm pt1).

Good for her. And she pays taxes with it and donates loads to charity so it's good for all of us.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

RhannionKPSS · 20/05/2022 16:59

Good for her , she earned every penny from her own talent and imagination and I bet a chunk of it goes to good causes.

Anyone know where I can buy a I ❤️ JKR necklace? 😀

nomistake · 20/05/2022 17:02

She could afford to take the whole of the mumsnet feminist board out to lunch at River Cafe 😀

jammyrose · 20/05/2022 17:06

Seconded, well done to her!

Pyewhacket · 20/05/2022 17:06

Good for her. Love her Cormoran Strike stuff.

mrshoho · 20/05/2022 17:11

Good for her. Well done Jo! And she's done so with integrity and strength in her true beliefs. 👍 ❤

StageRage · 20/05/2022 17:11

Well done Ms R.

Great to see a woman make money on her own hard work and talent, not based on any cynical exploitative scheme. And then use it to support fantastic causes, and not selfishly dodge her civic responsibilities for tax etc.

Talent, hard work, integrity.

This really demonstrates how much support she has from the general public. Not a week goes by without her doing something to make the world a better place. Can't help thinking that part of the reason that she writes so brilliantly is simply because she has so much empathy and insight.

I can't wait for her next Strike book. I've got the 30th August lined up as a day off work and I'm going to buy a pile of delicious snacks in advance so I don't even have to stop reading to cook.

I'd take her out to lunch and give her a massive bunch of daffodils. (a mango and lime Piri Piri chicken might have to do as I can't afford River thingy cafe!)

Let's do a Strike reading day thread.

WandaWomblesaurus · 20/05/2022 18:44

Sorry my texts keep sending too soon. Let's do a Strike reading day thread when the next book comes out.

Absolutely!!

Nutellaspoon · 20/05/2022 19:08

Pretty sure most of that's me buying endless special editions, illustrated versions of HP and all the strike novels on audiobook. Also off to universal studios next week, hoping she gets a bit of my ticket money for the harry potter part.

100problems · 20/05/2022 19:11

I wouldn't care if she spent every single penny on new knickers; she's given readers so much enjoyment.
Keep going Jo.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/05/2022 19:11

Of course, it would have gone up by a lot more if she didn't keep giving so much to good causes.

Justagirlintheworld · 20/05/2022 19:22

I’ve never been interested in Harry Potter, but over the last couple of years my kids have accumulated all of the books, the dvd’s, visited the HP studio tour and gained loads of merchandise. 😁

KittenKong · 20/05/2022 19:24

I spite l-bought Strike when people started flinging all that poo her way. I love a good murder - and am hooked. 😁

Beowulfa · 20/05/2022 12:27

I'm really enjoying the Strike books. Not many authors can write so well for both children and adults; it's a rare skill. Thought Fantastic Beasts was weak myself, but obviously others like it.

I hope she treats herself to a nice tin of shortbread.

I hope she has a bath in Cristal, just for the sheer hell of it!
