Kellie Jay Keen and Tucker Carlson of Fox News

I used to admire Kellie Jay Keen for her staunch defence of women's rights and her refusal to bow down to the bullies. But I'm so over her now. Last night I watched one of her YouTube videos and she praised Tucker Carlson to the skies, saying what what a good guy he is. For those of you who don't know, Carlson is a right wing troll who has been accused of being a white supremacist. He presents an insanely popular talk show on US Fox News, on which KJL has appeared on several times. Carlson also pushes the "great replacement" theory and no-one with progressive principles should have anything to do with him, let alone normalise his racism. My guess is that KJK has swallowed the "my enemy's enemy is my friend" line and is going down a dangerous rabbit hole. But I'm out.

Who claims to want to abolish gender?

I am not sure that is something I have heard KJK argue for, since she is in the thread title.

However it feels like it might be a bit of a derail to go off on a tangent of abolishing gender. I am not sure it is something that all who believe that sex matters for everyone in law, health and society and gender identity matters only to those who believe in it much like other philosophies and religious beliefs would agree on.

> Some of those social norms are there to protect the safety and dignity of women.

Then quit telling the lie you fight to "abolish gender". In reality, you fight to uphold and enforce the aspects of gender that you like.

@SeldomHere - I want to 1) abolish gender stereotypes, but 2) accept the biological reality of sex and maintain single-sex services and facilities where the safety, dignity, and privacy of women require them. These two things aren't contradictory, unreasonable, or difficult to understand, surely?

Why does anyone's "safety, dignity, and privacy" require "single-sex" services and facilities?

DaisiesandButtercups · 22/05/2022 14:43

Because men (as defined by sex) are a statistically proven danger to women (as defined by sex).

The male sex can also be a danger to each other however this does not mean that men who are smaller, weaker, dress differently etc should be permitted in spaces reserved for the female sex.

Also because men and women both appreciate not being naked in front of the opposite sex for the sake of privacy and dignity.

Because males,,sadly, have a far higher propensity to rape and assault women than do other women. This is why the law allows single-sex spaces and why many women (rightly) want them.

Telling them that they have to give this up to help make a man with a psychological condition feel better is completely unreasonable.

I believe that in Japan they have escort clubs that look like train carriages where men who fantasise about touching commuters can do it with willing (paid) women. Maybe an enterprising person can set up fake “female” toilets that men can pay to use if they need this to deal with their condition. That way they get to feel good but without removing any woman’s right to single-sex facilities.

There is no way to justify asking or telling women to accept men into their places as part of some self-prescribed therapy.

Prison- do you seriously think prisons don't need to be sex seggragated?

Or hospital wards? I've never heard of women being attacked by women in a female ward. Possibly it happens in mental health facilities but on medical wards? No. We know there have been attacks by men and trans women in mixed sex wards.

It is like you don't understand words.

Woman is not a gender. It is a sex. Women and girls need single sex spaces because men and boys are not safe.

It is obscufation like this that means KJK has to talk to people who don't try and say one thing but mean another.

SeldomHere · 22/05/2022 15:23

@AlisonDonut

So you do believe in sex stereotypes.

Anactor · 22/05/2022 15:25

“Why does anyone's "safety, dignity, and privacy" require "single-sex" services and facilities?”

For someone concerned about ‘white nationalists’, you seem remarkably uninformed about the importance of single sex washing and toilet facilities in other cultures. There’s also religious requirements.

Male violence is not a stereotype.

A stereotype is only males can like woodwork.

Again, your ability to understand words is somewhat concerning. Are you quite alright?

Nope, in biological reality. Of course not all men are rapists, but all rapists are men. Since we don't know which men they are, women need single-sex spaces. No stereotypes necessary.

SeldomHere · 22/05/2022 15:59

This is plainly false.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/05/2022 16:04

It's always revealing when posters out themselves as believing that women and girls must be compelled to undress / shower / sleep alongside random males.

Decent people find it hard to believe that there are those with no respect for boundaries and women's right to say no. Threads like this are always useful to demonstrate that such people do exist.

What else do you call people with penises, who rape people?

Again with the not understanding what words mean thing. It is like clown land.

Rape as defined in English and Wales is defined in terms of penetration by a penis, so all rapists ARE men. Other penetrative assaults can be treated as seriously, but aren't called rape. Other legal jurisdictions will differ, of course. But I'm in England and using that legal definition accordingly.

This is to rape what "technically it's called ephebophilia" is to pedophilia.

I’m getting strong ‘first year Philosophy student’ vibes here, to the extent that I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if the poster asked us to define the word ‘chair’.

What are you on about? I believe that in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 section 9 the offence is referred to simply as "sexual activity with a child"?

Hmm. They're not the vibes I'm getting.....
But I am wondering (slightly) why seldom has introduced ephebophilia and pedophilia into this discussion? Confused

Because it's similar? Because fixating on semantics when talking about rape/pedophilia is similarly creepy?

By "semantics" do you mean the law and the rights of women and girls to say no? Or something else.

SeldomHere · 22/05/2022 16:52

@Crosswind
> Women don't rape.
Some do. That's a fact.

Unless you're going to tell a rape victim who was forcefully penetrated with a vibrator that ackshually what happened to her wasn't rape because it didn't involve a penis.
