I don't know what to title this

It's so difficult to try to remain balanced in these discussions but honestly.... Why do certain minorities constantly need to centre themselves. How many non binary people does abortion even affect? Must be tiny.

I wish we would we queer people coming out in support of women instead of taking the moment to police the language as not being inclusive enough.

Absolutely agree.

It is so totally self-centred and immature.

doadeer · 05/05/2022 19:53

I'm really struggling with the current climate of identity politics - in so many cases I see this in a narrowing of vision to the detriment of all else and it seems to make people more one dimensional. This persons first thought with what's happening in the US, one of the biggest human rights decisions in recent years and the focus is, how can I put forward the agenda of my "community."

I've always been such an advocate for minority voices but I'm struggling with this.

Must be hard to accept if you have a uterus then you are female therefore you are a woman. All the wishful thinking and pretending will ever make it not so. Unless you have a uterus in a jar, then anything goes.

doadeer · 05/05/2022 19:56

It's just bizarre

@doadeer
I have no idea what tgat even means! Words were never that confusing until some individuals decided that a male could be a woman but that didn't contradict biology because female and women didn't mean the same thing.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 05/05/2022 20:00

Just saw this. Honestly I had to stop myself from crying. I’m so fucking angry about what is happening in America. Then I saw this and I thought ‘how dare you!’. This is not about trans or NB. This is about women.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 05/05/2022 20:01

Women have abortions. Women DIE from not having access to legal abortions.

We stop using the word woman and it all means nothing.

doadeer · 05/05/2022 20:04

"It's frustrating that the word that means to have a uterus is so steeped I'm gender."

Whaaaaat?! It is describing sex and gender how could it not be steeped in gender.

I'm blown away

Yes, well woman are human, so humans have uteruses.

Is it possible that some with DSD who are biologically men also have uteruses?

But the ordinary common or garden bloke who has a penis and testicles and doesn't have DSD, is still human, but Doesn't have a Uterus.

Me too - I actually felt sick seeing all that “people with uteruses” stuff that the ACLU and other groups on the American left were coming out with yesterday. This will destroy civil rights for all women and there is literally no sensible pushback against it that isn’t full of genderist nonsense and ideological cavilling. We really are on the way back to Gilead, and these people are helping it happen, ffs.

I was at a funeral last month of an American colleague who always reminded me of RBG — she fought for abortion rights and lesbian rights in the 60s and 70s in California before she moved to the U.K.; and all I could think of yesterday was how utterly sad it is that such a generation of amazing, steadfast, brilliant angry feminist women who did so much are leaving us, and in their place is just this supine, pretentious capitulation to the neo-capitalist men’s rights and cosmetic surgery industry, all masquerading as civil justice and “inclusivity”.

They would not know a real civil rights movement if it bit them on the ass, quite frankly.

Yes, it must be quite tiny. And they are still female human beings. Only female human beings need abortions.

But because they don't want to be called women, nobody else is allowed to use 'women' to refer to female human beings. Indeed, everyone else is assumed to be very happy with being assigned two-dimensional sexist caricature binary identities, like Barbie dolls and GI Joes.

This is a direct clash of definitions. I am a woman because I am female (an embodied identity, based on life experiences). She says she is not a woman despite being female, and that I should relinquish my definition, despite it being much older, more informative (what is nonbinary?), and crucial to have for fighting against sex-based oppression.

I say that this is the hill I am prepared to die on. Call yourselves whatever you wish in your private lives. Don't forcefully assign inane identities on everyone else and then throw temper tantrums if you don't succeed in that.

This post breaks our guidelines on sweeping negative generalisations and civil debate.

Sing it, sister. I wish someone wrote about 'people with testicles' ruling most countries for a while, so that men could feel what I now feel, seeing women's rights go up in smoke.

Peregrina · 05/05/2022 20:25

'people with testicles' - men are usually very proud of their bollocks. Prostate havers is the term I prefer.

No.
If you have a uterus and you have a DSD you're a female person with a DSD, aka a woman.
If you have testes and as DSD you're a male person with a DSD aka a man.

DSDs affect male people and female people differently but they all affect either male or female people. All people with a DSD are either male or female. DSDs have nothing to do with gender ideology.

Circumferences · 05/05/2022 20:29

Mammals have a uterus.

Circumferences · 05/05/2022 20:29

Animals have a uterus!

Circumferences · 05/05/2022 20:29

Life forms have a uterus.....

"It's frustrating that the word that means to have a uterus is so steeped I'm gender."

Woman? It's only 'steeped in gender' if you accept gender stereotypes being applied to other people (while eschewing them for your own special self). HmmWhereas if you're gender critical and want to do away with ridiculous anachronistic ideas of 'gender' for everyone and just have sex (real and inescapable) and individual personality, this perceived problem evaporates.

Yes!
An observation from my recent reading on many trans chat sites: A high percentage of transitioners hold extremely traditional and sexist views about what it means to be a woman or a man. Most appear never have read anything about feminism or the idea that gender roles and rules are very much culture-specific in that they show much variation across time and space. Many believe that there is only one way to perform womanhood/manhood, and if they can't do it, then they must transition.

This is very sad. But it's also another piece of evidence I have for my theory that the average political beliefs within the transgender community (other than about their own identities) are actually right of center. That it's the left which promotes them is therefore interesting.

Artichokeleaves · 05/05/2022 21:19

Goodness how some people can't tolerate women talking or the focus for a second shifting onto them. It's like a particularly coloured cloth-based item being politely introduced to a bovine lifeform penis bearer.

FemaleAndLearning · 05/05/2022 21:27

Sadly the tweeter has a lot of sway in the autistic community and mixes identity with neurodivergence which has lead to a lot of humans identifying as autistic. I have also heard the term autigender which is even worse because it implies all autistics have some form of queer identity which is just bollocks.
One day these traitors to our sex will wake up. It will no longer gain you a place by having a special gender identity, hopefully our autistic daughters will be less susceptible to this shit.

Identifying as autistic?

Well we need to spread the word to all those parents who have children on the very very long waiting lists for assessment by the NHS. Don’t both with those pesky assessments just identify your child as autistic.

Angry
FemaleAndLearning · 05/05/2022 21:57

I know it beggars belief. Again it is not a costume you can pick up and put on and take off when you feel like it. There are gender critical autistic people out there which is positive. I don't think the tweeter identifies as autistic they is autistic. The non binary thing is fairly recent though.
