Anyone else left wing and gender critical?

Kendodd · 03/05/2022 21:51

I'm to the left politically.
Support BLM and was at anti apartheid demos even back in the 80s
Fully support gay rights and again, have marched in the street for them from back in the 80s.
Strong feminist, attend feminist meetings.
Support refugees.
Very anti Brexit.
Feel ashamed of the levels of poverty in the UK.

I'm also gender critical and although I do support trans rights, in that, wear what you want, TWANW and have different needs and don't belong in women's sports, prisons etc. When I look around and see who I'm standing with on this though, I feel really uncomfortable.

When it comes to voting, no way would I vote for someone with Farage like views just because they were anti self ID.
Anyone else with similar views?

There's a lot of left wing GCs on here. We're politically homeless these days. It's a sad lament but true.

Thinking about it, the feminist meetings I've been to people are mostly left wing and support all the things I do. How have the right managed to own being gender critical? It's not even true. Self ID was a Tory idea and TW in womens prisons, womens sports tec has all happened under Tory rule.

Most of my friends and family are left wing with GC views, myself included.

Me. Left wing, gender critical.
My other half (male) is too, which is comforting.

Yep quite a lot of us. Politically homeless now. Went on anti- war marches, marches in support of fair trade make poverty history campaigns etc etc. Briefly dallied with a left wing anti-capitalist group who called themselves anarchists as a student.
Cannot vote Tory but will not vote for any group who thinks being female is something you can identify into.
Luckily (or unluckily) for me I live in an area that is blue through and through and always has been, massive majority so I can spoil my ballot and know it makes no difference to who gets elected.

Except, Rosie Duffield, a Labour MP is the most outspoken on this.

The GC posters on here all seem very right wing, slagging off the 'woke' by which I mean TRA but also BLM and XR etc. I don't feel I fit with the GC posters on here. Maybe I'm just on all the wrong threads.

The right don't own being GC. They do know what a woman is though.

You have to know what something is to be able to subjugate it.

I am similarly politically homeless.

I don't the right have managed to own being gender critical, I think it cuts across all political parties/sides.

I'm left-wing but firmly GC. Politically homeless, as others have said.

I'm almost glad that where I live is a safe Tory seat/council ward. I cannot vote labour. Or any of the other captured parties. But the local MP and councillor are actually decent and also GC.

I don’t think this is correct

GC doesn’t automatically mean very right wing. Or even mildly for some.

Left wing and GC
There's no contradiction between my left wing beliefs and my belief in preserving women's identity, rights and protections - they are one and the same

yes. And i'll still vote for the left-wing parties because I think they will do more to help women by doing something about cost-of-living and the NHS etc. I can't ever vote Tory no matter what they say on this topic.

but I'll keep talking about GC ideas and asking questions where I can.

I don't see this much on here, In fact there are lots of threads discussing feeling politically homeless- many women who have been fully paid up LP members who have been told they are no longer wanted. Many comments about not being able to vote Tory as well.

I am left of centre and also politically unstuck.

I don't think seeing fault with XR or the BLM Movement makes one right wing though.

I would vote for almost anyone to get the Tories out. They've done enormous damage to the country. Tory austerity killed 100,000 people even before covid. And their reckless disregard for the peace in NI. Oh and the lying and cronyism. No way would I vote for them. Frankly, I'd rather have self ID, I think that would do less damage to women than Tory policies. They've practically made rape legal with their cuts to courts and police.

Left wing and GC here. Don't know what on earth to do about voting on Thursday but am seriously considering spoiling my ballot in protest.

Yes, left wing and GC here too.
I get to vote for SNP (nope! According to them no men ever try to conceal who they are to access women only spaces! 🙄)
Or Scottish conservative.
Great.

Yes I know, my left wing views sit comfortably with being GC myself. Maybe I have just been reading the wrong threads on here and getting the wrong impression. I suppose it's not helped by the MSM ie the Mail and Express.

See this is why so many women feel politically homeless. They don't want to vote Tory but I honestly see the introduction of self ID as being as utterly damaging and awful for women as the issues you describe, the cuts to courts, the poverty and cost of living crisis. Awful for womens rights and for safeguarding children.

I have similar views to you @Kendodd, as do many of my friends and family. I suppose lots of left-wing people who don't think about it much, or don't know the full extent of the issues, view trans people as just another oppressed minority that deserves support. I think this is especially the case for teens and young people. Of course when you go deeper and read more (in particular about what is happening to children) it's hard to see how you can not be gender critical.

Almost identical views, Kendodd. Same age roughly, to judge by 80s demos - we may well have been on the same ones! Very similar if not identical positions on all the mainstream policies you mention. Lifelong Labour Party member until I could no longer swallow their Stonewall Law nonsense. And I think I would have had the same distaste for those you appear to think you will necessarily be aligned with, should you "come over to the dark side..."! That's just the thing , though. I really think you have a mistaken idea of who Gender Critical feminists are, or are aligned with - I personally would not pee on Nigel Farage if he were on fire even if he is (temporarily, opportunistically, desperately) anti self ID. Donald Trump might tell me the sky is blue but just because I agree with him about that doesn't mean I agree with him about probably anything else. And no one will expect you to start going on demos or outing yourself at work or on social media. Just lurk and read if you like, ask questions of the women on here (the knowledge base is astounding, as is the kindness). Certainly no one's going to try to make you support or believe or demonstrate for anything you haven't come to your own conclusions about. (I actually find it quite amazing that you haven't noticed that an awful lot of women on this board share roughly your stated political alignment/evolution!).
