On Monday 23 May, MPs will debate a petition relating to legal recognition of non-binary gender identities.

I think this is a really useful thing to be happening. Something of a 'shot themselves in the arse' moment for the blue-haired babies.

Especially as there seems to be a lot more recognition lately of how this bilge is going down with the grown-up general public, once they know about it and its implications for their children and their own lives.

Novina · 30/04/2022 18:12

We can have legal recognition of religious belief (in anti-discrimination laws) without writing the concept of 'souls' into law. I think it should work the same way for gender identity. People are free to believe in it. They shouldn't be discriminated against. But legal recognition of any 'gender identity' gives the idea a legitimacy it doesn't deserve.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/04/2022 17:13

Isn't a non-binary gender identity just a different kind of attempt to reject gender? And as such, isn't it just another form of GC belief?

Of course there are so many reasons having it enshrined in law is not easy or entirely sensible but surely it doesn't have the same implications as men IDing as women.

No. There are plenty of non-binary males who believe that women's spaces are the right ones for them since they are not men.

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/04/2022 18:17

You can define the terms in religion though.

Trying to legislate something that has no actual definition would surely prove difficult.

I dont believe in God but I know what a god is.

Having destroyed the definitions of the " binaray" aka man and women which now mean anything an individual person thinks it means and can vary from eprom to person to person, how can you even define non binary.

Legislation needs to be definitive and clear surely?

If it's a petition debate there will likely be a small but dedicated turn-out. Perhaps a slightly bigger crowd than usual because it's an ever so trendy subject for daft MPs, but I don't think they'll be fighting for seats.

I wonder if Crispin 'Fucked Up Over Khan' Blunt MP will attempt to lead the charge as usual, despite having to resign from being Chair of the APPG on alphabet soup.

Caroline Nokes will be insufferable as per. And Maria Miller. Wera Hobhouse will gnash her teeth and maybe wee Mhairi will too. Nothing like a cross-party gnashing.

Presumably Kemi Badenoch will there to represent the Government.

I just can't wait for inputs from the like of Michael Fabricant and Mark 'My father was part of the Normandy landings don't ya know' Francoise.

WTF?

Is this Pip's law?

MaudeYoung · 30/04/2022 19:00

Legal recognition of so-called "non-binary", which means a person denies having an immutable biological sex, cannot happen. Sex is already a protected characteristic, determined in the law that is the Equality Act 2010.

To introduce 'non-binary' into any law would contradict any law that includes sex.

It ain't gonna happen. But it's gonna be a very entertaining debate for all the tosh that will be spouted.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/04/2022 19:02

Yep. Men who change nowt about themselves but still think their penis belongs in female only spaces because they want to pretend they aren't men.
They don't need the dress and lipstick to call women who object to them invading female spaces, nasty bigots.

It also puts them in this new sacred caste of males who we must pretend are all completely benign and never commit crimes.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 30/04/2022 19:18

Arrrgghhh

also non bloody binary but "sex is a spectrum"
<head---> wall>

Nellodee · 30/04/2022 19:24

If some non-binary people think they are neither male nor female and some think they are both male and female, shouldn't we have a binary system of non-binaries to tell them apart?

mrshoho · 30/04/2022 19:33

Will Boris Johnson be there? I wonder how he'll stop himself from saying "Utter tripe"?

SpindleInTheWind · 30/04/2022 19:37

I doubt there will be many MPs there tbh, unless they've been asked to be by quite a few of their constituents or have a bee up their ass about it.

Hopefully a few can spot the potential danger to women's rights and can be present.

Artichokeleaves · 30/04/2022 19:42

People can't afford to heat their homes, the cost of living is becoming ridiculous, SEND provision is becoming a real crisis in many counties if it's there at all, three women are being murdered a week and women are being raped in prison, but yes, absolutely, let's spend tax payer money and MPs time debating this.

FFS.

Artichokeleaves · 30/04/2022 19:43

Where's the information please on how to be respectful and supportive to female people?

Just wondering.

Mandodari · 30/04/2022 19:53

Warning: there article below gives a graphic description of sexual assault on a woman incapable of giving consent.

reduxx.info/gender-neutral-sex-offender-appeals-sentence-after-assault-of-woman/

Of course he does. The second lst paragraph shows the stupidity of this whole gender bullcrap.

Findwen · 30/04/2022 20:06

At last ! I know there is a lot of concern about this - but for some, like me this is soooo freeing. I hope to God that this time next year, my gender will be recognised by all instead of mocked as it is today:

Susgender

Perhaps my darling other half might be able to hold their head high too and come out as:

Aromagender: Perfumic

I so look forward to having everyone at work and pass on the street be told about our truth. I plan to get the official flag for susgender and will be putting them up all over my office. Let those who suggest it is a made up gender or that perhaps my giant flag not be appropriate for the office live in fear of the law.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/04/2022 20:09

I hope they go into great detail about all the many variations of "non binary" gender identity.

RosierPosier · 30/04/2022 20:11

If a parliamentary petition gets over 100000 signatures then it is considered for a Westminster Hall debate by the petitions committee.

A government minister, usually junior, is chosen to respond. MPs do not have to turn up and they are usually not very well attended, only being of interest to those who have a particular position on the issue being debated. These debates do not take place in the Commons chamber, but in Westminster Hall.

These debates are all broadcast live on Parliament TV online.

Speechless. When I think I've heard it all and then read about this vile man who's not a man and his crimes could have been recorded as a woman. Whereabouts of his prison unknown FFS!

Boomboom22 · 30/04/2022 20:23

I have written to my MP and asked them to attend. I have also mentioned CN and CB negative reflection of the party's values too, with their extreme views being publicly stated at every opportunity.
Perhaps internal ructions will start some whip involvement!

It's part of the democratic process. Any petition which gets more than 100,000 signatures will be debated.

PermanentTemporary · 30/04/2022 21:22

Slightly concerning as I understand there are countries where this tosh has been legally recognised despite it making zero sense. I had hope that nonbinary status would be potentially freeing for young people but focusing on its legal recognition is absolutely the wrong route. Like wanting a doctor's note to declare yourself an artist.

Thinking about comparable facts of personal status, I don't in fact know, can an individual declare themselves stateless, if a state says that in fact they have a citizenship?

JoanOgden · 30/04/2022 21:27

Petition debates are a fairly recent invention and token gesture politics... they are almost always very badly attended and go absolutely nowhere. I'm quite sure this one will be the same.

Musomama1 · 30/04/2022 21:47

Non binary is the kids tantrum of all gender identities. I'm not she! or he! Stop offending me! Jumps up and down! Let me access everything! Or nothing, because it's not tailored to meee!

Srsly, 'recognising' NB as a real thing is like enshrining law for punks or goths. NB as a status is no more real than the tooth fairy. According to the definition, most people are non-binary because most people don't neatly fit gender stereotypes.

The NBs are uncomfortable with themselves, like most young people and many adults and I don't see why the state should indulge this. If you called yourself a non-binary man, or non-binary woman, go ahead, that makes more sense and it's a more reality based way of stating your personality which is essentially all NB means, I e. I'm male but not your typical male.
