This was in the Telegraph:

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/04/23/feminists-turning-tories-labour-making-idiots-womens-issues/

But has also been picked up by the Mail:

She's not wrong.

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 24/04/2022 19:40

These are the women who revolutionised feminism after the suffragette movement, they are life long anti-Conservatives and the idea that they will abstain from voting or even vote Tory for the first time ever is desperately upsetting to them but they really do feel strongly about this.

Exactly.

DdraigGoch · 24/04/2022 20:39

You might want to get your title edited OP, she said that they're turning to the Conservatives, not Labour.

Oh yes!

I'm one of them.

Life long labour voter (and previous member of 15 years plus) who will not vote for them.

I'll be spoiling my paper (again).

chilling19 · 24/04/2022 21:04

Me too

FOJN · 24/04/2022 21:28

Why does Rosie "get it" but the rest of the Labour party don't? It has to be because they don't want to.

I have been spoiling my ballot for a while now, last time with an adult human female sticker but I'm fed up of waiting for a centrist or left leaning party to see sense so I will probably vote Tory for the first time in my life at the next election. I never expected to be here but then I never thought women's rights were as precarious as they seem to be.

Oddessafile · 24/04/2022 21:44

@FOJN left wing my arse. Don't kid yourself. Tories so welcoming to women that their mouth piece is quite happy to print misogynistic crap on its front page. Oh but it's Angela Rayner so doesn't count ....

Voice0fReason · 24/04/2022 21:52

I can't turn to the Conservatives but I have completely turned away from Labour, LibDems and Greens. Ballot spoiling is the only option open to me now and I will make it very clear why it is spoilt.

Dancingbea · 24/04/2022 21:53

and yet when it comes to abortion rights, funding for women’s refuges - can guarantee it is labour who have women’s backs on the substantive issues, even if they have got themselves in a mess here. Look at the recent voting of GC Tories on issues that affect women.

My guess is they all get it. Everyone knows what a woman is whether or not we're trying to #bekind or not. The only difference is that despite my many criticisms of her she seems pretty fearless and has no interest in saying something that goes against her beliefs just for the sake of optics. I think it's called authenticity; I'm not used to seeing it in politics but I like it!

Artichokeleaves · 24/04/2022 22:01

Defect, Rosie, defect. Let's have all the remaining Labour people with sense cross the floor and get some of that sense into the Conservatives, and maybe we'll end up with a party we'd actually want to vote for.

Because I'm down to voting for whichever party in my area is most likely to keep the really bloody terrifying women-hating ones out of power. Which would be Labour, Libdem and Green.

FOJN · 24/04/2022 22:04

Oddessafile

I think you may have misunderstood what I've written. I don't believe my post suggests the Tories are left wing!

SarahShorty · 24/04/2022 22:15

I tend to shy away from politics because it's driven by emotion and it can get so heated, but here is my opinion: Rosie doesn't fit in with the party she's a member of because she's old school Labour, while the current arrangement of Labour is new Labour. I believe new Labour started under a certain Anthony Lionel Blair. Unfortunately with modern politics being as murky as it is, I consider all parties to be different sides of the same pile of steaming excrement anyway and in such, every ballot paper that has passed through my hands since around 2016 has been spoiled. Many of today's politicians will always walk back on their promises once they've won and got power. That's just modern politics.

Until both major parties reform, or dare I say, general modern politics reforms, there will always be crazies trying to destroy boundaries.

Agree. Those in Rosie's constituency will have an easy choice, as at the moment a vote for courageous Rosie could be seen as condoning their ridiculous party stance.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 24/04/2022 22:30

She is correct! Many of us are politically homeless- unable to see ourselves voting for the right but invisible to the parties on the left.

I am asking local candidates two Sphinx riddle questions (for my vote):
Can you tell me what a woman is?
Can you tell me what a party is?

It doesn't require an oracle to tell me that a spoiled vote could be in my future.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/04/2022 22:33

Rosie Duffield is a sensible and thoughtful politician.

Labour are not supporting women's refuges at all. If TWAW there are no women's refuges. Look at what's happened already in refuges and 'women's' support groups. Labours stance is that this is OK. It's really, really, really not and it's not a pro-woman stance no matter how much Kier wants to pretend it is.

5zeds · 24/04/2022 22:55

It is not possible for any sensible female to vote for a party that will not protect female only spaces. It’s totally polarising. It’s black and white. It’s infuriating that it would ever come to this.

Rosie is pretty Blairite. The old school labour types are the Corbynites, which she is definitely not. Many of her criticisms of her party are about how old school and male-dominated it still is at the top.

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/04/2022 23:03

She was on Matt Forde’s podcast this week btw, it was brilliant: podcasts.apple.com/pt/podcast/the-political-party/id595312938?l=en&i=1000558163632

Scorchedterf · 24/04/2022 23:11

Please don’t spoil your vote. Political parties take note of who votes and how they vote. They are not interested in people who don’t vote. Hold your nose and vote for the party which best represents your interests. Identify the particular hill you want to die on and vote for it.

I’ll be voting for my local councillors, they enact policies at a local level in councils and schools and public toilet provision. I’ll be voting for the councillors who know what a woman is. And not some mealy mouthed ‘all women’ garbage.

Corbyn might be old school Labour, but Momentum is not, they are totally immersed in identity politics.

This. I think this is a one time opportunity to send a clear message to all the parties that women are standing up because of this issue. I do think the results will be carefully analysed with this front and centre. In my own patch the Lib Dems are doing all of things locally that I think are important. The Tory woman is a careerist politician who doesn't even live locally, but this time I will be voting for her strategically.
