Apologies for the Daily Mail link but WTF!!

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10742211/Plymouth-University-tells-women-not-challenge-people-think-men-using-toilets.html

Gaslighting young women, just #Bekind ladies, who cares about your safety!

So bloody angry. It's one step forward and ten steps back.!

Shocking isn't it!!
Notice that they acknowledge that people need spaces that are safe- exactly the problem.

mrshoho · 22/04/2022 13:00

They should fuck right off! Is this operating within the laws of the Equality Act? Are all universities carrying on like this?

Liveliferun · 22/04/2022 13:02

In this situation I would feel safer using the men’s. At least I would be with men who weren’t actively seeking to invade my space.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 22/04/2022 13:09

How are we supposed to know who is a woman? And what if a man dressed as a man comes in with his mates, do we have to put up with that too. Absurd.
I have "dealings" with Plymouth University and all of the staff emails have pronouns on.

MrsFionaCharming · 22/04/2022 13:12

Those used to be stuck up with blu tac. I kept pulling them down. Guess they’ve now invested in holders to make it more difficult 🙄

Thelnebriati · 22/04/2022 13:15

They should be labelled 'mixed sex toilets', and the Uni can explain why its chosen to discriminate against women who can't use them.

Truthlikeness · 22/04/2022 13:26

"Do not make them feel uncomfortable, instead protect them from harm."

Just comes right out and says we're support humans.

ResisterRex · 22/04/2022 13:26

The comments on the Mail site about this are good. Some of them calling for Bristol and Plymouth to be defunded. Perhaps the government will go down this road, perhaps not. It might be viewed as too close to no platforming or cancel culture.

However, surely there's some kind of legal and/or financial obligation from the Universities to the government, to spend money wisely? Spending money includes buildings, doesn't it?

The posters are not imparting a message based in law and as such they should be taken down. There are clear H&S obligations with toilet provision and that is the loop back to legal/financial duties to the government I'd be looking at if I were in government.

tabbycatstripy · 22/04/2022 13:27

The grim chirpiness of “carry on with your day”.

Nobody gets to instruct other people in what they are and are not permitted to object to.

MissPollysFitDolly · 22/04/2022 13:42

Very annoying, and what's with calling the toilets 'bathrooms', must we import every little Americanism?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/04/2022 13:45

It is important to ensure that our whole University community can feel safe, respected and empowered (except for women who are not allowed boundaries). 😡

They might as well put up a sign saying "Women's toilets - sexual predators welcome".

nepeta · 22/04/2022 15:18

Women develop an inner radar (most do, I believe) about when a situation is unsafe, when someone behaves like a sexual predator. That radar is invaluable, yet those notices demand that the radar be turned off.

I understand the two sides to this issue, but right now universities sit firmly only on one side. It's as if the whole female sex has suddenly been declared the privileged oppressor sex, and we are demanded to be silent.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/04/2022 17:12

I was walking with my teenage sprog yesterday, a car pulled up beside us and I noticed I instantly felt tense. It was perfectly innocent, they were waiting to pass because of double parking. But this is the cloud that women live under. Leaving a toilet cubicle and some bloke walks in, he'll be between you and the exit. Probably perfectly innocent, but Jesus!

Bettygirl · 23/04/2022 10:35

Remember the good old days when if some idiot was pestering you, you could hide in the toilets till he got bored? Now he can just follow you in, no questions asked! How could the university's decision possibly go wrong...

RogersOrganismicProcess · 23/04/2022 14:27

So which universities have toilets that sexual abuse survivors and more orthodox religions feel safe and comfortable in? Are they somehow less important than transsexuals?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/04/2022 15:13

Has anyone considered getting printed and putting up posters which dispute these idiot maunderings? Ideally taking down the ones on display and replacing them?

I haven't heard about any such project. But I have seen pictures of the same posters or posters with exactly the same words though different backgrounds in the toilets of at least two other universities in the UK. So the campaign is not just in Plymouth.

Musomama1 · 23/04/2022 17:15

This poster is truly frightening, it explicitly demands young women not to question any male in their bathroom. We forget Uni students are actually quite vulnerable, away from home from the first time and still very young indeed.

Remember Charlie from Monsoon, this'll include people like him, 'non binary' boys who just look like boys (because they are). At the very least I'd feel extremely uncomfortable in this situation.

This poster needs to be shared widely as it's sheer sunlight. Girls told to keep their mouths shut and they won't be listened to. Girls are second class citizens at Plymouth Uni.

AnnieLou12 · 23/04/2022 17:52

Girls seem to be second class citizens at Plymouth and everywhere else because that’s the way it’s always been. How TRAs can call themselves progressive is a mystery (not really, they appropriate everything and their outrageous lies out do Trump and Boris).

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 23/04/2022 18:01

I can't get past Macafee to Everyone's Invited to check out Plymouth Uni's ranking there. Does anyone know its ranking?

AnnieLou12 · 23/04/2022 18:36

Yes, Plymouth are on the Everyone’s Invited list.

TheBiologyStupid · 23/04/2022 19:46
