"The Equalities and Human Rights Commission is to appear before the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee to discuss the EHRC's response to the Committee's December 2021 Report Reform of the Gender Recognition Actt_. The Committee will consider the EHRC's stance regarding the Government's 2018 consultation, more recent reforms in Scotland, and its approach to LGBTQ+ issues more widely.
The session will also scrutinise the EHRC's new three-year plan and its work following the Government’s Inclusive Britain report.

Why should the EHRC try to repair relationships with groups who just don't like the law as correctly stated?

Hm, their remit is to foster good relations between everyone, apparently. Not sure that's actually possible when we have people insisting that misogynist or homophobic principles must be upheld.

She's not very bright but has done very well considering, in politics. Her letter of No Confidence in Johnson is still 'live' and that's causing her issues with the whips' office I imagine.

She's a bit of an enigma wrapped up in a plank.

I had to rewind. I could not understand Bell Ribeiro-Addy's questions. Something about what if the law doesn't comply with the law? Falkner said she couldn't answer about law in the abstract but only about the equality act. Very confusing.

100%. I think it's appalling and I don't know how she gets away with it. It's verging on bullying.

Good for JDP to point out that LG is not the same as T. They are two different protected characteristics in the Equality Act, aren't they? You have to address them differently as sexual orientation and as gender reassignment.

What was the nit picking about whether ScotGov had decided on 16 or 18 (16 because they're fucking idiots) - it's hardly the EHRC's fault.

EHRC has not been given a budget for the current year — two weeks into the financial year. Baroness Falkner saying this is an existential issue. Last year didn't even have the baseline that has been agreed is necessary to do the work required by statute. Even Nokes seem to be astonished by this.

I'm laughing at the thought of the person who stated at the Northern Ireland Select Affairs Committee that she was probably giving birth at the time as an excuse for not (ever!) having read the Good Friday Agreement. Nigh on 20 years before she was asked this question. This is the person who is getting out the magnifying glass for one or two incorrect terms words being used by mistake by the main speaker at today's event.

I feel for the three EHRC reps there, it feels like they've been thrown into the lion's den. And they're trying to act like normally reasonable adults and have a conversation but they've got Caroline Nokes shouting at them and interrupting and accusing them every ten seconds.
